i was talking to this sunni muslim and he told me that it says in the qur'an
(20130). have patience with what they say, glorify your Lord, and always praise Him before sunrise, sunset, in some hours of the night and at both the beginning and end of the day, so that perhaps you will please your Lord
how many prayers are mentioned here?
also, is the prayer before sunset and the one in the noon the same prayer?

None. The word "dua" is no where to be found. For those who stil think salaat is prayer, that word is not there either.

i believe that verse is not specifically talking about salat/dua, it can be view that way however. Up to the individual...

The word used in 20130, I believe, is "sabbih" (Siin-Ba-Ha) instead of "Salat" (Saad-Lam-Waw) or "du'a" (Dal-'Ayn-Waw).
Well, so far in my reading, I don't believe The God is using words haphazardly. I take "sabbih" as a part of, but not limited to, the activity of salat. In doing my salat, glorification will always be a part of it, especially when I learn new stuffs from the quran. I would definitely glorify The God, and not to forget expressing my gratitude.This particular ayat, as I now understand it, is the end-result of salat where the doer of this activity appreciates what he/she has learned during the "study session" and thus, logically, he/she should glorify The God for giving them the privilege of increased understanding.
