    Peace all,

What do you think about selling one's own organs, say, a kidney, for transplants?

...I'm toying with the idea of doing it myself.

      Salaam Andya,

      What do I think?
      .....................................................................
scarry bro... really scary.... at least for me...

Why would you want to do that anyway?

Yea.... uh... thats a no no for me. The body is a symbiotic system, if you remove a part from it then the remainder has to work that much harder to make up for what was removed, I don't see the benefit in that. You can be of a greater benefit to yourself and others when working in 'full capacity.'

That being said, why are you considering selling your kidney or any organ for that matter?

Also, a lil off topic, have you seen the movie Pretty Dirty Things (1), it is about organ selling but also a beautiful story told with brilliant acting. I sooo recomend that to everyone.

        peace,
        Khalil

I'm in debt. And I need money.

Besides, I've read some medical opinions and they say that in terms of general well-being and physiology, there is no significant effect.

...which convinced me that parting with one kidney isn't that bad.

What kind of debt are you in ? like how much do you owe and what are you able to give up besides your organs?

The article (1) you posted states

The single normal kidney will grow faster and get larger than a normally paired kidney. For this reason, the single kidney is larger and heavier than normal, and it is, therefore, more vulnerable to injury.

Anytime an organ is enlarged it means it is overworking. For example, wild mice have a larger adrenla gland than lab mice because mice in the wild are under constant stress, thus this causes the adrenal to release hormones at an excessive rate. Another example, is humans who eat a cooked and/or processed diet have an enlarged pancrease because the enzymes on foods when cooked or processed are destroyed, and so the Pancrease has to secrete the absent enzymes, thus it becomes over worked, thus enlarged. Do you see what I am saying? An enlarged kidney is not beneficial imo.

            peace,
            Khalil

Well, the amount is quite large, equal to the price of a car where I live. My main problem with it is that I'm not in full control of the repayments. The creditor sets a monthly amount at about two times my montly pay, and they do not accept any rate lower than that because they want to settle it in two years or less. Also, my creditors are abroad (UK) so negotiations with them are difficult . As a result I end up having to borrow money from my parents or my friends every month. I don't have any property for collateral, so I'm having trouble getting loans from local banks. This debt is from my unpaid college fees.

My options are limited. That's why I'm thinking of doing that. Or if I can find someone who can lend me money but don't mind a longer return period...

By the way. Your quote refers to people who's naturally born with one kidney, therefore that one kidney recevies extra doses of everything during childhood development. I assume my kidneys are no longer growing so I might be spared that fate. And kidneys are not the same as the pancreas--the kidneys are filters, not enzyme glands.

Is there a way to consolidate the debt? They may be able to lower interest rates that way. Also, you may consider investing some money in stocks, but this takes alot of time for money to actually build.

i don't know how wise this is so verify it with people who are professionals, but what if you paid it all off using a credit card, just so that you get out of all these UK loopholes that are difficult to deal with. Then there are a million options in the states of consolidating or eliminating debt. Again this might be horrible advice so just check it out first.

You can always supplement your income with some part time work for awhile and just use that money solely for paying the debt off, while your other job can be for your living expenses. It may be tough for awhile but its only a temporary situation until things work themselves out.

I would suggest you exhaust all avenues before thinking about selling an organ because that really is a very permanent decision.

                  Salaam Andya,

I've put up this matter of yours with the friends on Allah-Semata. Hopefully someone might be able to help.
So far from our chats, it seems you do have a very limited options.
Our last hope is probably the Department of Education or educational foundations in Indonesia.

Well, let's wish for the best first before selling your kidney bro.

Do you have a blog or a website ? You can put google ads for instant revenue. all you have to do is apply and then any visitor who clicks on any google ad on your blog or website, google will pay you.

just another thought of making some side cash

                      Thanks for the reply, soul2squeeze.

I'm already living frugally, with most of my pay going to loan payment expenses. I'm also trying hard to find extra income in every opportunity. Problem with that is, here they don't pay you as much as in the UK.

Then there are a million options in the states of consolidating or eliminating debt.

                      Can you elaborate on this?

I use to have a blog, but I no longer run it. But I might reconsider.

as for consolidating, I really don't know how it works, so I'd be doing you a disservice if i even attempted to explain anything. ;D
From what little knowledge I have, they actually work with the institution you borrowed from and try to lower your interest rate ... alot of these orgs are non-profit orgs too ... i'll try to get you some links or you can google it in the meantime

Not to belittle Andya's situation in any way, but I'd rather take a law suit and jail time any day, over my organs.
But then again, I who am I to say anything, as I have not been in such a desperate situation, alhamduliLlah.

I'm not sure what to do if I happen to be in Andya's situation.
The thing is, if the creditors would just willing to extend a couple of years of this loaning, Andya would have no problem in paying them. It is due to the sudden increase in the monthly payments that did the damage.

Have you finished your schooling and did you apply for a loan via your college or directly to the creditor in UK? Just curious to know since there may be other possibilities.

                                        Peace all,

Myr, it would be around USD 14500.

Zenje, I appreciate your opinion. It's just that I'm a bit short of options here. Besides, I don't know what the lawsuit would entail--and another problem with taking this to legal means is the geographical distance. I'm in Indonesia, they're in the UK. Besides, I think it would just brought more financial burden.

Danish, I have finished it. I've already paid half of my tuition fees, and I didn't apply for a loan. While I was in the middle of that course, a financial difficulty hit my family and I end up unable to pay the rest untul I finished the course and returned to Indonesia. I have just started paying it back at the beginning of this year, when I've secured a job, but the problem is, as I said, I can't fully manage the instalments.

Of course I would prefer other means over selling a kidney, so I'm open to suggestions.

                                          Peace Andya

Can you not file for bank ruptcy as a last resort? I know that that is a drastic measure but so is selling your kidney, if I was in your shoes I would not hesitate to file for bankruptcy if that meant I would not sacrifice an organ. Also what is the exact monthly fee, perhaps members of the site could contribute?

I didnt realise that the quote refered to ppl without a kidney from birth, but I am aware that the pancrease and kidney have different functions, what I was saying is that anytime an organ is enlarged it is because it is being overworked.

                                          peace,
                                          Khalil
