    Peace Phoenix

hmm very good points you raised

of course the not healthy part would depend on who's doing the eating. What if it was a severely underweight person who gets enthusiastic over the excitement of competition and eats alot? To a healthy person it would be over-eating but to a skinny person would you use the same standard? Is it a set portion of food that we can't go over? Does it vary from person to person? If it is done in a good spirit and for a good cause does it justify the "over-eating"?

      Salam,

I think it's awful to treat food as some sport, instead we shall be thankfull to God that we have food on our tables.

I also disagree with some costoms at ramadhan when some families break their fast they will have alot of food, and they eat more than they use to eat ordinary days hmm I guess that is some way of misunderstand the goal of fasting.

But I think people who do this are blind because they do not use their mind before acting.

So keep reading Quran for guidence, it's in there the true guidence and how to behave as a believer.

      Peace Sis Majidah

        Peace BOOST,

Your mom does have a good point it is gluttony... but i think it's a wholesome way of enjoying what God gave us... a sort of celebration of life and enjoyment of food.
Believe me, there is no "enjoyment" or anything to do with celebration of life in that "sport". Infact if you see these guys doing it, it looks painful. Eating 40 hotdogs in a matter of minutes?... yuck Like most sports,IMO, it's all about the money.

          Dear No

I let other's decide wether it is prohibited by God or not, but it is one of the most idiotic of competition. If any person considering to join such a competition, that person lacks the intellectual capacity to be a muslim or a normal human being.

In short, it is disgusting and insult to human intellect, honor and integrity.

I know, I did not provide any reason for my reaction, since I cannot honor such an absurdity with reason. All I can say is this Do not turn God's provision to a curse by eating worse than animals; especially in a world where almost half of the world population is starving.

          Peace,
          Edip

DALLAS - A 62-year-old retired accountant from Nevada swallowed 247 peppers in eight minutes to win the Jalapeno Eating World Championship at the State Fair of Texas.

Richard LeFevre won $2,000 for prevailing in Sunday's contest, which was sponsored by the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

I wonder if he felt okay afterwards, quite a stupid thing to do for just $2,000. Those pics are quite awful. The 'food competition' I recall happening in our family was who could eat the most wasabi. I can tell you it ended pretty soon and lots of water taken to clean the system right after (in like 2 seconds). Never was another competition suggested and that was the end of that.

                peace BOOST,
as Zenje very effectively pointed out, over eating isn't fun, and it isn't healthy. Even if you are severly underweight, you shouldn't eat tons of food in a few minutes.
Different people need different amounts of food, that's a fact. But there is a right way to eat that food. We need to eat in small (or not too big) amounts and have a balanced diet.

But what if it's done for a good cause?
                that's a good question.
I don't think we should have fixed rules. Every law should be a little flexible. So maybe if we think eating competitively is better than not eating competively, then it's fine.
But if you're bulemic, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

                  Peace

LOL phoenix funny stuff about the bulemics ;D you do have a very good point though there is nothing healthy about it ... i was attempting to play devil's advocate

sheesh zenje those pics didn't look fun at all you're right ... but to each his own perhaps they find enjoyment in doing something like that

i don't know i just think haram is a really really strong word ... God warns us not to harram what He made halal...
