Salam all;
Can anyone provide me the threads concerning Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha? I would like to know more about these special days in the light of Quran.

I have got some information here reagrding Qibla, Salat, Zakat, Maszidul Haram. But it would be much usesfull to know something regarding the two Eids.
How have Shias and Sunnis infected themselvs by these two Eids while I did not get any verse in the Quran that may suggest any Eid?
Please mention if you have any idea.

There is a verse in the Quran that talks about how when people come down the mountain (during Hajj) we should celebrate Allah's name.... this is where I believe that particular Eid can be justified. But I have not read anything about the Eid that is celebrated at teh end of Ramadan.

Respected Sahaba, I?m aware of the fact that Quran does not forbid us from taking part in this occasion. However, I?m just wondering whether Quran authenticate such festival days associated with God?s system.

Why Do We Celebrate Eid?

Every tribe, people or race throughout the world celebrates a festival of one sort or another. Muslims also celebrate some festive occasions on some days of the year. But the festival of Eid is one that we are commanded to celebrate in festivity, joy and happiness by Allah Almighty Himself ! This in itself portrays its importance.In Surah Yunus it is said
?O mankind! There has come to you indeed an admonition from your Lord and a healing for what is in the hearts; and a guidance and a mercy for the believers. Say In the grace of Allah and in His mercy, in that they should rejoice. It is better than (all the worldly wealth) that they amass.? (1057-5.
This is the occasion Muslims have been enjoined by Allah (SWT) Himself to celebrate with happiness and joy. This occasion is called JASHN-E-NUZOOL-E-QURAN, i.e. EID-UL-FITR-DAY.
The Quran was first bestowed from on high in the month of Ramadaan as a guidance to man (2185). Therefore the entire month of fasting is, in a way, a preparation for the celebration of this festival day called Eid. The question arises what, after all, has Allah given us for which we are commanded to rejoice? The answer is given by the Quran itself that it (the Quran) makes man aware of his true status in this world. Allah says
?Indeed there has come to you from Allah, a Light and a clear Book.? (515, 141).
Ponder for a moment what happens in the dark, and what happens to darkness when it is stabbed by light! In darkness, no object, article or a thing?s correct identity, position and location can be known; whereas in light every object?s true location and identity is before us. In darkness we mistakenly presume a rope to be a snake, and vice versa. But when light comes, we see the difference between a rope and a snake!

This verse may simply mean that mankind should be happy and glad at what has been descended from God. The implication could be that mankind should accept this with gratitude instead of opposing it.
Eid al-Fitr, in my opinion, is not a day of festivity or rejoicing. Rather it is a day to break the walls of classes based on economics. It is the manifestation of brotherhood and expanding one?s world to imbibe other human beings inside the boundary of his world.
With Siyaam every year, one does homework for further cleansing of his heart from all the propensities that are responsible for building walls around him and to accumulate wealth and resources within his boundaries to enjoy alone. And on the day of Eid, he starts sharing his wealth with those who are in distress.
Devotional meditation or Salat may help me building a union with God. But abstaining from food and sex does not, I think, do the same thing.
Now regarding the verse once again. Mr. Parwez is an apt thinker. He understood the meaning of the verse and had an idea to observe a festival on the end of Ramadan. Please keep in mind that the verse in no way directly implies any festival on the end of Ramadan. Did the Prophet really think on the verse as Parwez did?

I like to share from what I know why the Eidul Fithri & Eidul Adh-ha are celebrated.For Eidul Fithri, Allah reveals in 2185,
Khalifa that you may fulfill your obligations, and to glorify GOD for guiding you, and to express your
appreciation.Yusuf Ali (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided
you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.Pickthal that ye should complete the period, and that ye should magnify Allah for having guided you,
and that peradventure ye may be thankful.Prog Muslim and you shall complete the count, and glorify God for what He Has guided you, that you may
be thankful.The word walitukabbirullaha=the nearest translation being to magnify.
The word tashkuruun=the nearest translation being to express appreciation.
Therefore in magnifying and expressing appreciation to Allah that this day is celebrated.And for Eidul Adh-ha, Allah reveals in 108-2,
Khalifa Therefore, you shall pray to your Lord (Salat), and give to charity.
Yusuf Ali Therefore to thy Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice.
Pickthal So pray unto thy Lord, and sacrifice.
"Progressive Muslims" Therefore, you shall assemble for your Lord, and sacrifice
Personally, I opine that the nearest translation as Therefore worship your Lord and perform the sacrifice.
I think this is the reason why Eidul Adh-ha is celebrated and hence the sacrifice.Salaam.
