    Peace Jafar,

Given that Prophet Muhammad's ancestors WERE idol-worshippers, isn't it obvious that some of the would be have names as 'Servant of this or that god'? Why do you think that is a problem?

Keep in mind when I say FATHER in what I wrote below i mean FATHERS and in FOREFATHERS from the begginging of time all the way to Muhammed.

Names never matter unless as said above, the names were given because of who they worshipped. And if this is true let me ask this can it be proved that Muhammad was a holy man only, and nothing but a holy man.

"The word "muhammad" means one who has manifests "hamd". It is not a person in particular but should be understood as ANYONE who manifests "hamd'. "

And what does the entire word Muhammad mean. Because each word in its entirety has a meaning.

The first question I asked is based off this truth. We as children of our parents inheret certian things from our familys. Ie our religion, our habbits-eating, sports and many many more.

Why do you think that is a problem?

Yes this does present a problem. Because what I said above is a proven fact. And if Muhammad father worshiped Idols would Muhammad not have grown up around this learning the same things. And if Muhammed's father was an Idol worshiper as stated above by others and that his name "was obviously given to him because of the idol he worshipped" as stated above then dont you think this would have influenced Muhammad in some way.

          Peace all,

To me, it's not that the name of the ancestor was 'slave of such and such idol', as you said, that wouldn't be shock, however, the list, as a whole all seems to fit together too nicely--as if contrived and fabricated, as if it were a fairy tale that's been told over and over again.

              Was Muhammad an Arabs?
              Was Muhammad a Quraish?
Was Muhammad a member of "bani Hasyim"?
According to the "official" history; Muhammad's ancestry is
              Qushay -> Abd' Al-Manaf -> Hashim -> Abd al-Muththalib -> Abdullah -> Muhammad
Please notice "Abd' Al-Manaf" which actually translated in English as
              "SERVANT OF THE GREAT MANAF".
And MANAF is an IDOL GOD of the PAGAN ARAB.
              http//www.pantheon.org/articles/m/manaf.html
Compare that to Muhammad's father ABDULLAH which actually means
              "SERVANT OF GOD"
Anyone has any information regarding Muhammad "true" ancestors?
              Salam / Peace

              Salam.

Human beings must be very careful in the choice of our words, because The God is watching us all the time and our words are recorded so we will answer for our deeds on Judgment Day.

              Salam.

Can you say the same about Ibrahim?
And what about Moses? He was brought up in the court of the Pharon?

This is true, I was asking this question to thise who know more about the subject then I do. I am a Christian and am here to learn. So I dont completley know this. I am simply taking peoples posts and turning them into my own questions. To see what the answers are. Because I normally get many answers. Sometimes I get facts that can be proven, but mostly I get oppions. Which in the long run mean nothing. Please dont get me wrong I am not saying Muhammad was an Idol worshiper. I am asking those who know his history if it can be proven without a doubt if he was not.

                  Sincerely, Abuja

                    Peace all,

As for me, I'm not supporting the supposition that Mohd was an idolworshipper. Who his parents were and what they did could mean a lot, or it could actually mean nothing at all. To me, this point is totally irrelevant. I was just commenting on the names from Jafar's initial 'listing' of Mohd's ancestors. It's as if the names go in progression, from the darkness idol worship into the "light", if you get what I mean.

Yes I understand what you are saying. And really it dont mean anything. Unless there is no proof that Mahammed did worship Idols and I am not saying he did I am asking can it be proven that he did not? And what does his entire name mean? These are my two questions if you can answer them it would be a great help.

                      Sincerely, Abuja

Even if they were idol-worshippers, isn't that the whole point of prophethood? If a prophet came to a family and society which already are monotheists and good people, why is there a need for him..? A prophet/messenger is a warner for bad people, isn't he? Abraham's father was an idol-worshipper, so is Moses's adopted family, etc...

I think the question makes no sense.

Seriously who cares what their names were or who they worshipped. What does this have to do with Mohammed? You never read the quran I guess. Most people follow what their fathers told them. Only the righteous will follow what is right even if their own father will threaten to stone him to death (as in the case of Abraham). So really what does so and so's name have anything to do with Mohamed? What does his full name's meaning have anything to do with his beliefs or what he preached? My name means vengeful and judgmental. I'd like to think that has nothing to do who I am and what I believe in.
                          I'm sorry this is silly.

I guess since you're coming with a claim that makes no sense you're the one who should PROVE he was an idol worshipper. Good luck.

                            Peace Abuja,

This is the whole point, how can we 'prove' anything that happened so long ago, today??? I dare say it's impossible---either way.

And Boost, Abuja's just doing some mind exercises--exploring. This is no harm done in asking questions and questioning things. Harm is more likely to come with rigidity and closing others off, creating a sense of separateness and shame.

                            peace Peace, man!

In case anyone didnt not read all my posts on this topic especially you BOOST. I explained that I raised my questions from someone else's post, the person who started this topic. And secondally no one has even attempted to answer my questions. This tells me that either NO ONE KNOWS THE ANSWERS OR NO ONE IS WILLING TO ANSWER BECAUSE THEY DONT LIKE THE ANSWERS THEIRESELVES. So here where my questions again, what does Muhammad's name mean in full? and Second can it be proved that in his life that he did not worship idols? And again please keep in my I am not saying that he did worship Idols I am simply asking can it be proved that he did not worship Idols. I believe these are two very simply questions that anyone that follows the Quran as there book of Faith should be able to answer. I am just trying to understand why no one has even attempted to answer them yet.

                                      Sincerely, Abuja

And who told you I was even addressing you? I was addressing the person who posted this thread.

As for your question, I still see no point in finding out someone's full name in order to know whether he was a believer or an idol worshipper. I never heard of such a test.
