Nice sentiments, but unfortunately bringing up children is not just economic capability but complex emotional baggage involved, male figure is not just for monetary reasons but also for the emotional and psychological needs. It is difficult enough when a parent is missing due to death sepration etc, but to deliberately start from this point does not bode well either for the child or the future of the society.

If all the orphans already present in the world had even one single parent it's still far better than none for them and the future of society.

I think you need to research the pitfalls of being a single parent before you consider either of the options you have stated.

As a single parent for quite some time, I think it's tough but doable and better than being in a marriage that is crap. A stable loving environment with two parents is better than a stable loving environment with one and both of these options better than none for orphans.

I guess what I am saying, in a long winded way, is that a child needs two parents for his/her future well being

I agree, but in many situations, the second best option might be the best option available.

It's a quite an admirable thing to do and should be encouraged but only attempted when one is sure it's something that can be seen through all the way, just like having one's own children. Raising an orphan, treating them as one's own and giving them support can only be a good thing.

      Salaam SC

      Hope you are well

If all the orphans already present in the world had even one single parent it's still far better than none for them and the future of society.

No disagreement there. Perhaps my initial post was not very clear. My objection was purely to bringing a child with a predetermined situation of one parent family i.e. artificial insemination

As a single parent for quite some time, I think it's tough but doable and better than being in a marriage that is crap.

Agreed & I hope it has not been too traumatic. No doubt you will have done an excellent job. 'Crap marriage' can be very destructive for the well being of children both emotionally and physically. However one cannot compare this to pre planned single parent situation. I hope you get my drift.

Perhaps you can one day you can share your expereince of being a single parent.

      take care & regards

I'm good SL, thanks for asking. Holidays are always tiring!

I agree with you regarding artificial insemination as well, it's quite a dodgy issue.

Single parenting for me wasn't traumatic at all, as people tend to adjust better when they are young and spry, not that I'm over the hill now . It, like everything else, is a learning experience and makes one independent and more capable to deal with life as it comes comparatively. I understand your viewpoint regarding pre-planned, just didn't want to scare her too much ;D

        Peace and best wishes.

what are they? (I have three relatively young ones & not so young myself)

personally speaking children are pure joy under any circumstances... When our eldest was a toddler i bumped into and collegue who also had a lilltle one of similar age and we were swapping our nappy stories. he best summed it up "beats watching the telly any day"

not that I'm over the hill now

          Of course not ;D

          regards

            What are they, hmm. I've often wondered about this myself D. I have a daughter who's 9ish and a son who's 3.

Lol, nappy stories are particularly dangerous when there are boy's involved. One's reflexes have to be razor sharp, lightning fast and honed to perfection or risk being drizzled with something not very soothing.

            Of course not

For someone not even thirty I consider myself a young adult! At least I'll be able to enjoy my forties and actually, heaven forbid, go out someplace nice without constant whining.

Not bad, not too many age gaps therein. They'll all grow up together.
