Any sense to history within islam?

peace
why do we treat "islam" as a proper noun?
If islam means "peacefulness" or whatever, then those people who are not peaceful, or who do not submit to god, they are not muslim. It is as simple as that.
There are a lot of people who call themselves Muslim, but they aren't followers of god at all, but they follow their idols. I can call myself the smartest person on earth, but that wouldn't make me one.
Which is why I wonder why people keep worrying about "Islam" and "Muslims" and what is happening to them.
"When did islam enter it's regression phase"
that question makes no sense because "peacefulness" can never enter a regression phase. It's just that people who claim to be following god do not follow god at all.
The term "violent muslim" makes no sense. Niether does "islam is violent." Unless you take them as proper nouns, but then everything else doesn't make sense. So, we can now stop worrying about people who CLAIM to be peaceful and CLAIM to be followers of God, and instead think about helping people who ARE true followers of God.
You make a good point, but remember that violence is appart of every culture. Muslim society is no exception. Human are naturally violent and we try to overcome it. Thats what religion is all about. I guess what I am saying is that
People are violent, religion tries to stop it. -

People are violent, religion tries to stop it.Of course, sometimes religion doesn't help in matters of violence... How many acts of violence are done and endorsed in the name of religion today and in the past?
One of the things that made me disillusioned with traditional Islam is a local religious conflict that broke in a part of my country several years ago. It was all religion-insipred violence--Muslim killing Christians and Christians killing Muslims.

True, wars do happen betwen religions as they do with secular nations. It usually happens when the purpose or teachings of the two religions becomes lost. So it mainly happens when someone misinterprets the message. Which could explain almost all religious conflicts for the past couple of centuries.

How can a short person be tall?
the word "muslim" is not a meaningless title that anyone can use. It is a description.
I think that people are wasting too much time and energy worrying about people who call themselves Muslims, rather than helping out people who actually are peaceful. -
From my understanding of the QUran, Adam ( as a community) got kicked out from the heavens for precisely this reason. The devil was successful in creating divisions among them and they began to fight with one another. The story about the Allah telling Adam not to approach the tree is allegorical. The word "S-J-R" (tree) has also been used in the meaning of "to create divisions" in the Quran.
The biblical/Hadithist story of Adam/Eve eating from the tree and getting punished is a fable not backed by the Quran.
We are here on earth because we were not getting along in the heaven and we were sent to Earth to mend our ways.
Looks like we have'nt made any progress, for if look back in history, there is one thing we find never stopping --- Wars and people killing each other for a variety of reasons.
peace.

Peace,
Based from my readings of the quran, I believe there has been progress throughout history when Allah is used as the reference as opposed to only the human being. When the connection between the creator and the human being is present, progress is present. When the connection breaks down, there is regression.
I see a collective regression within those who had upheld islam at the time of the prophet Mohammed beginning after his death. That failure to collectively understand and meet the challenge remains to this day. I have no doubt that there has been individual progress since. However the collective challenge befronts humanity.

You could see the same type of "regression" right after Jesus and all the other prophets and messengers. So why single out muslims in comparison to the rest of "humanity"?

Peace Boost,
Your right, the same kind of regression by division happened after others received the book. The process seems to be a movement towards unity, then one of division. Then from that divided state a renewed process towards unity etc...
In using the quran I like the discription of that movemement going from darkness, to light and from light to darkness. History moves from night to day and from day to night.
History is not just limited to day and night, it is also the cumulation of them, added into months and years. Although a specific group is divided amongst themselves, history progresses. The historical challenge is to pick up the relay where it stopped. I see Noah picking up where Adam dropped the relay stick, in the firmness. I see Abraham picking up where Noah dropped, in the transmission to his son, etc...
The way I read things, future success will be in relationship with Allah using the quran. I can't see it in any other way. Now I mentionned 'Muslims' today as opposed to muslims today not to single them out historically, but in admission and recognition of a problem within as opposed of in denial of it. If any solution is to arise, a recognition of a problem must first be present.
