some issues i am having
-
Salam all!
I emailed soemthing similar to the freeminds people but havent heard back - then i discovered this forum so thought i may as well post here and see what people say! i appreciate everyones opinion!my first issue is the question of free-will and morality .... when we as humans make a decision it is just a series of chemical reactions going on in the brain - hence if we alter someones reaction they may make a different decision- so how does free-will actually exist if we can influence other peoples decisions?
And so if we dont have free-will how can we be held accountable??
And accountable to what exactly? Good and bad/morality whatever you want to call it is completely subjective - what is bad to one person may be good for someone else - whos to say which one of those is right? With it being so subjective how can we be judged on that?Another issue i have is with homosexuality - is it a choice? would someone actually choose to be harrassed and maybe disowned by their family and live a life being an outcast in society (wherever you are in the world - gays are on the margins!) - would someone choose that for themselves???? i doubt it- so if it is not a choice - why would god give some people a homosexual instinct only to condemn them and punish them for it - if it is something natural (ie. god-given) how could such a god punish people for what he has given them - where does free-will come into this? they didnt choose to disobey god - but their natural instincts tell them otherwize! ive heard the argument that it is a choice and not natural instinct - if so why do certain animals also have this tendency? are they breaking the laws of god and nature also? are they accountable -of course not they go by instinct - so why is it wrong for humans? why would god destroy a whole people for an instinct he created in them?
I had other things but its late and im not sure even these first 2 points make sense... ill edit tomorrow!
thanks for now!

Peace Palestina,
You happened to ask about 2 of the most talked about topics on this forum. It's a good thing, and also a good thing we have a search engine. The opinions you'll find are as varied as our fingerprints, so read all views and follow what you feel is best.
My short answers (opinions)
Regarding free-will, I believe we will be judged based on how we strived within our own personal environments. Some people will have an easy time being free-thinkers. Others will be brainwashed into systems. It's what you do with what you have. And always remember that God is the Most Just, and no one will be paid more or less than they deserve.Regarding homosexuality, again, I believe we'll be judged based on how we strived.
Peace,

peace palestina,
You ask some core questions that everyone should ask. Nice.
I agree with Tay that this has been discussed many times in the forum so a search is advised, but I will give my brief take on it
think free-choice, rather than free-will.
so how does free-will actually exist if we can influence other peoples decisions?
Because if that wasn't the case, the system would not work, it would be illogical. Please think about this concept. Its same with the annoyingly popular question "why is there evil in the world" same answer.
And so if we dont have free-will how can we be held accountable??
Of course it exists (although I prefer the term "free-choice" and I'll prove it. If I tell you to go and drink a glass of water right now; do you feel you have a free-choice to drink it or not?
Good and bad/morality whatever you want to call it is completely subjective - what is bad to one person may be good for someone else - whos to say which one of those is right? With it being so subjective how can we be judged on that?
Exactly. Isn't it amazing that in this test a criteria becomes necessary, and it just so happens we get revelation on such things. Coincidence? And if you say what about those without revelation, see 3030 for the internal compass (i.e. universal principles installed in everyone).
Re homosexuality. See the glass of water example above and what Tay said.

Peace "palestina",
my first issue is the question of free-will and morality .... when we as humans make a decision it is just a series of chemical reactions going on in the brain - hence if we alter someones reaction they may make a different decision- so how does free-will actually exist if we can influence other peoples decisions?
And so if we dont have free-will how can we be held accountable??JK- Last but not least everything is causal. But remeber that the people who are holding another accountable are also REACTING because of thhat same causality. This is thus an automatic system. One does something wrong due to multiple deviation factors in nautre and the others weed it out. This is exactly how evolution works in nature. However i do believe that the human brain is connected to other dimensions via wormholes and hence the decisions, though causal from infinity, are not limited to this one. But tht is still just a hypothesis and would have to be proven first.
And accountable to what exactly? Good and bad/morality whatever you want to call it is completely subjective - what is bad to one person may be good for someone else - whos to say which one of those is right? With it being so subjective how can we be judged on that?
JK- By application of the scientific method we can find out with high probbility what is good and what is bad 1) either directly or 2) through a scripture which has been analysed by the same method indicating that it must come from a higher intelligence with the same high probability(known as indirect inference). The Quran with it's mathematical code serves such a function.
Another issue i have is with homosexuality - is it a choice? would someone actually choose to be harrassed and maybe disowned by their family and live a life being an outcast in society (wherever you are in the world - gays are on the margins!) - would someone choose that for themselves???? i doubt it- so if it is not a choice - why would god give some people a homosexual instinct only to condemn them and punish them for it - if it is something natural (ie. god-given) how could such a god punish people for what he has given them - where does free-will come into this? they didnt choose to disobey god - but their natural instincts tell them otherwize! ive heard the argument that it is a choice and not natural instinct - if so why do certain animals also have this tendency? are they breaking the laws of god and nature also? are they accountable -of course not they go by instinct - so why is it wrong for humans? why would god destroy a whole people for an instinct he created in them?
JK- This is not just limited to hs. Neuroscientists have found that murder, rape, child molestation, suicide bombings are all instincts in the brain acquired naturally. Ppl also get disowned by their parents for taking drugs and indulging in violence which are also instincts whtever the reasons for such maybe. Should one practicing such thus be remained unpunished? It cannot be because it is the INSTINCT of the other partys to punish such in return also.
I had other things but its late and im not sure even these first 2 points make sense... ill edit tomorrow!
thanks for now!
JK- Please ask whtever you want and GOD Willingly youll recive an appropriate answer. GOD Bless!

Peace palestina, all,
Animals have instincts but no reason or revelation, thus NO CONTROL.
Humans have instincts which could be bad or good, but they have been given reason and revelation also. The reason gives them free-choice to act upon their instincts or not, thus humans have CONTROL. The revelation guides the reason.

Salam.
Free-Will.
The most heated debate ever, huh?
I believe that we do have a free will but sometimes we're just facing too many obstcales on our way.
Sometimes i wonder the same thing, how can i choose something, when i'm prevented to choose it?
Suppose i choose to travel to Berlin. I buy a ticket and get on the train. I get to Berlin but get turned around because there is a terrorist holding entire Berlin threating he'll nuke the place. I have to turn around and choose another city. But i really wanted to go to Berlin. I mean, if i decided to go to Berlin, why can't i exercise this plan. My plan is to visit Berlin, for example, but i can't, this crazy terrorist is there. What now?
A) I can go to another city, for example, Buenos Aires.
B) I can go to berlin and kill the terrorist myself in order to go with my original plan. What do you think i should choose?
Peace.
