peace Lily,
it all depends on how you look at it.
I prefer to look at it as a long journey, rather than something that is rushing by us. Life can't be so short that I can't stop once in a while to admire the flowers in spring, or the colorful leaves in autumn. Life has to be long enough so that I can do everything I want and a little more.
Most people live up to at least 50 years. half a century is a very long time.
Let's say you are on your break at work, but you don't know when it'll end. You can see it two ways. 1. you can think that the break may end very soon, so you eat as much as you can without enjoying your food and don't really do anything else.
2. you can think that you don't care when it'll end, and you take your time to relax and enjoy your time off work and savor your food. The risk with this is that the break might end in the middle of your meal. That would really suck.
But I'd think that even if I didn't get to do a lot, or didnt' get to finish what I started, at least I took the most out of everything I did.And another thing that makes life really long is all the second chances we get (there are virtually no third, fourth, fifth, or last chances). We can do something wrong, and we always have the ability to turn things around. Unless we die while doing something wrong, which again would really suck.
So that's what I was thinking. I don't really know, though
and that was pretty funny, Lost Philosopher.

peace Lily,
-it all depends on how you look at it.
-So that's what I was thinking. I don't really know, though-Or WHEN you look at it. From previous posts I've read of yours, I'm old enough to be your mother.
-One day you will. When I was your age (assuming I'm right, 19 or 20), people my current age seemed ancient. And I couldn't have imagined for a second that one day I'd be my age and look back to realize that it goes really, really fast. Just like those dumb old people told me it would.Peace

I suppose you mean according to women themselves right? Because I do not there is anything pretty with nail polish.
See, I said in my post that most women are less concerned about what men think, than what makes them happy and what other WOMEN think. Thanks Jankren.

Cannot have what? nail polish?
Do they had "medora" company at that time in Mecca?
The modren nail polish was invented in 1920's.
In fact, there are those who do not tolerate anything that was not practiced or known to the inhabitants of seventh-century Arabia. These are strange ideas to associate with the most universal and rational religion in the world. Obviously, these alien notions fossilize Islam and constitute a serious misreading of the true Islamic message.
A Story narrated by
Anas who said, "The Messenger of Allah set a time limit for us for trimming the mustache, trimming nails, removing armpit hairs and removing pubic hairs. They cannot be left for more than forty nights."2 Letting them grow long resembles animals and some of the disbelievers. No nail Polish in this story at least? if u know of any please post it.
Salam Ra-Jah,
Thank you for your historical input on this, much appreciated handshake

Salam Lilyfleur,
I especially loved your response, and boost's! bravo...I agree, i do not think considering the time period that nail polish was invented that it was prohibited under the general rules of the wudu, however....considering that we must assume the Qurans laws are timeless, and that there were laws indicative of certain time periods, and some not indicative..potentially, nail polish could be a non-complete form of wadu. But I have to assume being a medical guru and one prone to science intelligence, LOL ignore, that if the nail is able to breathe under the polish, which it is, then although some solutions of the polish may be insoluable to H2O, they nail itself is still exposed to aqua ions, therefore, scientifically wudu is complete on a molecular level jedi
GRRRRRR, come and get me hadith believers!!! just joking! peace
-
Salam,
After moments of reflection, I would like to aplogize, in witness to god, that i am sorry for any arrogance, I commited in claiming to be a medical guru, and of scientific knowledge in my previous response to nail polish vs wadu...regardless of any education I have had, I should be more humble. And I apologize, to any offense made to any hadith believers, I only pray for them guidance and mercy from Allah.

if you look at my profile, you will see that I am a 117 years old.
http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?action=profileAnyway, you have a point. But still, I think what's important is not how long life actually is, but how long we think it is.
Because we really don't know how long our lives are. For all I know, I could die tomorrow. Should I focus on the fact that my life will rush by me, and do everything in a hurry (haste is waste!!), or do I not focus on that and do everything like life lasts an eternity.
We like immortality because that gives us the power to do whatever we want. We can live out all of our fantasies because we would have an infinite amount of time. Well, why don't we just live like we are immortal?this is so ridiculously off topic.

I don't believe that entirely, generally speaking most women dress to impress, be it a guy or a girl.
Also I agree with pheonix1"We like immortality because that gives us the power to do whatever we want."
Anyway about nail polish, do you think its necessary I mean forget about wudu what's the whole purpose of nailpolish? "to look pretty" is nail polish considered modest? do you think you should be modest? Also Honor you said "if the nail is able to breathe under the polish, which it is, then although some solutions of the polish may be insoluable to H2O, they nail itself is still exposed to aqua ions"
I'm not to sure about nail polish, I'm not sure if the nail can breath under nail polish, according to you some solutions of the polish isn't insoluble to h2o so wouldn't that mean wudu wouldn't be entirely complete?
I know it's being picking I am doing this purposely.. Also how do you know the type of nail polish doesn't have all the ingredients of insolubility to water... -

Below is a short article I found on the subject. Remember, I didn't say that there aren't some women who make themselves up for the sake of men. I said "most" women. I happen to work in the fashion industry and so find myself surrounded by women on the regular. And so, although I don't speak from a scientific stand-point, I do speak from experience.
"Hey ladies, who do you put on make up for?
Blogher conference made me look deep inside myself. Being around a few hundred smart and pretty women for a couple of days inspires one to ask questions about one?s own feminine nature, one?s identity and sexuality. I was looking at all the pretty women around me, checking out their fashionable handbags, looking at their colorful outfits and cute little shoes when it occurred to me. Women dress up for each other far more than they do for the men.
I asked Ponzi, my fashion and beauty muse the next day as we were walking to lunch who do you put on make up for? She laughed at me as if to hint I was asking her the obvious ?other women, of course,? she said. ?Men take me as I am and won?t even notice the color of the nail polish, or the new trendy hand bag or the expensive custom jewelry that I am wearing. Women always take notice though and complement or criticize.?
I had to agree with her. Women, even the geeky ones, care far more about fashion and shopping than men. Robert never noticed the butterflies I had painted on my toes or the Coach backpack I was wearing at the conference. None of the men did. Nicole Simon, however, took pictures of my toes and many others commented on them, and Beth even took a picture of my backpack. Let?s face it ladies, we dress up and put on make up to impress each other not the men. So who do you put on make up for?"
FROM http//maryamie.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!9592F3DEF41537A3!1959.entryAdditionally, I found the next article that attempts to prove that women dress up more during "certain" (e.g. fertile) times of the month in order to attract men. It's important to note the message by a woman who brings up a good point. Rather than women dressing "up" while most fertile to impress men, perhaps they just dress"down" during times of PMS, etc..
http//www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/technology/technology.html?in_article_id=427961&in_page_id=1965As for my take on whether or not wearing nail polish is being "modest". At this point in my journey, I am so put off by women who judge other women's outer appearance. Believe me when I tell you that there are a lot of very sinful women in the world who have never, and would never, "oh my" wear nail polish. Be careful not to assume that someone's outer appearance indicates who they are in the inside. Since we're unable to look into someone's heart, we must remember to leave the judging to God. As a side note, I very, very rarely wear "finger" nail polish, however, occassionally I do wear "toe" nail polish. And since I don't read Arabic, I can't get into a specific debate with you on the word "modest". If I knew for sure that we were debating the word in the American/English dictionary context, I'd be happy to get into it, but for now I'll leave it be.

Peace Phoenix,
You said "Should I focus on the fact that my life will rush by me, and do everything in a hurry (haste is waste!!), or do I not focus on that and do everything like life lasts an eternity."
-Neither, "life is short" is a phrase that means that when you get older, you will look back and be astonished at how much time has passed in what seems like a "short" amount of time.
"We like immortality because that gives us the power to do whatever we want. We can live out all of our fantasies because we would have an infinite amount of time. Well, why don't we just live like we are immortal?"
-Who is "we"? What Muslim believes in immortality? Did I say something that gave you the impression that I believe myself to be immortal? I think you're missing my point altogether. Perhaps one day you will understand, perhaps not. For now however, I think we should consider "letting it go".Peace
