...ones post anymore or even edit it without contacting the moderators and then they can make the change on approval. This is also the case at forum.19.org. Over there you can edit your post for half an hour but after that no more. It should be the same here in editing and deleting onlybeing available upto half hour after the first post. GOD Bless!

That is an interesting proposition. I am personally not a fan of people erasing history.

Yeah. It's annoying when people delete or modify their posts when a discussion is going on (but sometimes it is understandable). And really annoying when people delete an entire topic.

              Peace mods, admin, all,

I think the members should have the ability to edit/modify their posts for 30 minutes if no one else has posted a reply within that time, or upto the time someone else posts a reply, whichever is the shorter time.

yeah, we should be able to modify our posts until someone else has posted. To fix errors or add something quick or something like if you realize that what you've just posted is very offensive or very disgusting and you really don't want anyone to read it. There should be some time.

Agree with the editing ability being maintained, but for at least a day or until someone has posted whichever is shorter. Sometimes one might post something at night and find it lacking in the morning etc.

Not allowing that ability to edit for a short time does two things in my opinion...

                  1. Importantly it will lower the standard of interaction. Why? Because accidents and things one might regret having posted become a permanent mistake. Someone may jump upon this error and the quality of debate then focuses on the error rather than the topic to be discussed.

                  2. People may refrain from posting for fear that a mistake may get through due to a slip up.

                  3. I am assuming moderators maintain their ability to edit which sets up or exacerbates the feeling of oligarchical control of ordinary members.

Don't complain when you ask for any additional restrictions on your freedoms and they are granted.

It only takes ONE person like you to spoil it for MANY others who may need the ability to edit. Thanks for being so helpful with your suggestions.

Think about threads like the 'picture thread' where people through choice have posted things for a week, and then edited/modified their post. Maybe some people who don't agree with the 'erasing of history' might consider further?

We are trying to figure out a way in which short term edits can be incorporated. As for picture threads, one can always remove the picture from where it's hosted as opposed to editing their post.

in a way this is good. we get to see each other's thoughts on a crude level instead of the polished version ;D at least temporarily until a new and improved edit feature is put up by Sis SC

i guess the down side is if something comes out offensively the damage is done. although i think if anyone is worried about that Bro Zenje said in another thread he doesn't mind if anyone private messages him about modifying the post.

but other than that we get to see a more real version of people which i must admit my voyuer side likes

The current problem of our inability to edit our posts is very annoying. The thing is that I'm a 'perfectionist'. I cannot even stand to see a mistyped word or some disorganization in my posts, so I feel pretty agonized right now when I find mistakes in my posts and I cannot do anything about it ( (.

                                  Salam,

This is being looked into. We have found that a time limit can be activated on the edit and are looking to have that option so people can amend their own posts within a set time frame.

i've been thinking about this. i agree with bro Truth. we should have the right to delete posts if we felt the need to. these are in fact our own thoughts. it may disrupt the flow of the thread, but you know what, too bad.

so the next post might not make sense. i don't think that's really such a big deal. we're also talking about very few threads where this has happened. and most times people have a legitimate reason for deleting the post. they either don't feel like sharing something personal or they feel ashamed for writing something or choose not to be associated with the thread. i think we should be entitled to change our minds.

this is after all a website open to the entire world. circumstances change and we may feel vulnerable with particular posts we may have written in the past.

i think everyone's freedom to at least delete a post all together should remain regardless of how someone else might feel reading the thread with a missing post. that's an encroachment on people's personal comfort and lives. you never know i might have a crazy stalker one day who is tracking my posts on here and i might want to delete anything that is too personal. or i might relocate and not want my job to ever know certain thoughts i've had in the past. or i may feel so upset that i had such a wrong perception that i'd rather delete it than keep it around for the world to keep reminding me with it. so many variables. the bad outweighs the good in such a situation.

the editing time limit makes sense because i noticed people do add something extra after they posted and it makes the next person's post look ridiculous. so placing a time limit on that makes sense.

the person can then either delete the entire post altogether or leave it the way it is at that point.

                                      Peace BOOST,

I would agree with this, for off-topic and other such type threads, but not for debates or topics concerning quran.

this is after all a website open to the entire world. circumstances change and we may feel vulnerable with particular posts we may have written in the past.
This is exactly why I think we should have these posts. First, if anything we will actually 'think' before we post something, knowing that after a few minutes there's 'no turning back'. Secondly, I've said a lot of things before that looking back, I think were immature or just plain stupid... so what? I have never gone to delete or edit those, even though I can. It really doesn't matter, we all grow, ok most of us, and we all evolve to think almost entirely different than we used to. No one will hold you to something you said a year ago, and even if they did, does it really matter?

The problem is when you have someone starting a decent conversation, or debate or whatever, and then after a thread has gone for 2 or more pages, the guy decides, oh you know what, I'm going to delete every post of mine on this thread, and then, what the heck, I'll delete every post I ever made. ??? IMO if someone decide some months from now, I don't like what I said then because I was half asleep at the time... ah well, they'll live.

the editing time limit makes sense because i noticed people do add something extra after they posted and it makes the next person's post look ridiculous. so placing a time limit on that makes sense.

That makes sense. I never really personally felt the need to delete any post i made even if i did sound like a goof ball because i like to see my progress and i think it's a good learning experience for everyone... but i do know of others on this forum who did post something really really personal and decided later to delete their post. I wound up posting in reply to one and found the next day that the original post was deleted. Assuming that the person decided not to share such personal information to the world, i just deleted my response too.

So i'm just thinking of all the possibilities that may arise. Let me ask you this. What if someone were to post something that they later needed to be taken down. Would an admin or mod be able to delete the post for them? I'm just concerned about those few cases where someone really wrote something they need to be taken down.

If there is some recourse then I guess this would be the best solution. I do agree with you on the point that you make with people just deciding to delete everything they ever wrote or something. I personally don't see the need for that, but you're right, perhaps this would make people really think before they press post. So for those other cases where people just need something taken down for personal reasons if there is a way for you all to take it down for them then I imagine that solves any possibility of any future problem that may arise....

I dunno I'm just thinking out loud at this point

I know I can, if there's something someone realizes later, you know, like personal information, no problemo. I believe I mentioned this also on another thread about post modification, contact me or any of the mods for such.
