A problem that I think we have is that we're too "islamic." What I mean by that is, only people who are searching for islamic sites and quran sites are going to land on free-minds.

We are islamic!! Do you mean we should put a link to threads like "cars" and "movie thread" to trick to our site those who are searching for cars and movies? Is it not significant enough that people who search "islam" or "quraan" come to our site? That' the purpose of this site, I suppose.

why would anyone want to take it out? scared of getting NEW muslims to discover this site? because after all theres lots of nonsense articles in wiki that dont get taken out and freeminds should be taken out? thats wrong.

      peace be upon you all

I think I know what Phoenix is saying. Let me have a go here, the theme of the site only appeals to Muslims (I am using the term in the religious sense) while what is being discussed here can appeal to alot more people than just Muslims, but they are more than likely unaware.

        peace,

              I think Khalil got it.
If we can say the same thing, without using these arabic terms like "islam" and "quraan" (unless that's a title), we could spread the message to more people.
Right now, the front page of free-minds and progressive muslims, and most of the articles, are directed toward traditional muslims or people who are familiar with the quran and hadith etc.

I believe , (you may not), that the quran's message, or any message, can be explained in several different ways.

                      Salam Phoenx1,

I'm not really sure as to what Khalil has got, since he only said, "The same message?"

Maybe brother Khalil would let us know what he meant.

The reason I ask is Jonny seems to be having conflicting beliefs. I was hoping you'd catch this one on your own. This was from another thread

JK- If you follow the QUran Alone youd know that Muslim is not a proper name, it's tht simple. So why use an Arabic term which people in the west are not aware that it is simply a common term meaning "submitter" and thereby causing probs? Does tht make sense to you? Or do you want to stand out as being more holy like the religious elite? GOD Bless!

I found it kinda of strange since he's talking about "being more holy" and about "the religious elite"

then in the same thread he addresses you as

                      Peace bro "phoenix",
I couldnt agree with you more. From now on i shall call you my "brother phoenix" sun . GOD Bless!

hmm huh... is the message you guys want to spread one that we are only brothers if Jonny agrees with you?

So is this the type of message you guys are talking about?

                      peace

Why are you bringing Jonny into this?
"the message" we are talking about is the message of the quran.

                          Salam Phoenix1,
I was not sure because of the title of the thread... "Re SCANDAL AT WIKI. OUR "FREE MINDS" ARTICLE HAS BEEN DELETED!!!" Free-minds is not the Quran. Thought maybe you guys were starting a new religion with Jonny-K it's appointed Mullah.

I was hoping you're talking about the Quran! Thanks!

I believe , (you may not), that the quran's message, or any message, can be explained in several different ways.

I believe there are many interpetations of the Quran. I believe there may possibly be as many interpetations as there are individuals who study the Quran.

If we can say the same thing, without using these arabic terms like "islam" and "quraan" (unless that's a title), we could spread the message to more people.

First of all the Quran (which we have figured is what you mean by your use of the word "message&quot came down in the Arabic toung. If you are concerned with people "getting" the "Message" you'd be out there teaching Arabic so folks could truely read and study it for themselves and not someone elses translation.

Second, what's this fascination with the numbers game? Why are you so concerend about spreading the message to "more people" . Islam is not evangelical. Why, didn't you you say?

I think the Quran is a very personal book. It's guidance is meant for the individual, not the masses.

                          What gives?
                          peace

                            Peace Mehdi,
Just so it's clear, Jonny had nothing to do with what I said. It's my idea. He may disagree with good reason.
OK, what the message of the quran actually is is very debatable. Of course. But we can use what we have learned from the quran, things that are so obvious all of us agree on (like searching for the truth, questioning leaders, etc), and present them in a way that doesn't exclude anyone because they don't know what "muslim" is or "islam" is or what the "ahadith" are. I want this because I'm sure there are people who don't know much about the quran but share our desire for spritual guidance and the truth.

Second, what's this fascination with the numbers game? Why are you so concerend about spreading the message to "more people" . Islam is not evangelical. Why, didn't you you say

I didn't mean it in a sense that more people believing in the truth is a bad thing, or we shouldn't worry about it. I mean, if we believe something is true, why not share it with others? If something has helped us, why not try helping others wit h it? And I'm not even suggesting sharing the "truth." I just want to share this forum with more people. And we could always use more diversity. Right now, most people here are from a sunni muslim background. I would like to know what people who weren't born muslims think, and have a chance to discuss their views as well.
Yes, "islam" (peacefulness) is not a club where you can sign a contract, or say a few words, and join. But this is unrelated to that, I think.

                            What gives?

The quran speaks to every individual as an individual, not as a whole species or group. But, again, I don't think this is relevant. It has nothing to do with how many people read the quran or know about it.

Anyway, I think you understand what I'm getting at. So, do you think it's a good idea or not?

Why not the entire Quran? I don't buy the walking on egg shell thing so as to not "exclude" anyone. If someone is offended by the entire Quran, then nothing you will do will make them believe. You can't trick, fool, or force anyone into Believing in God's message. To take just part of the Quran and not the rest does nobody any real good. Please be mindful of 285

                              1. ......... Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?- and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.

I mean, if we believe something is true, why not share it with others? If something has helped us, why not try helping others wit h it? I see nothing wrong with any of this that you are saying. I would however like to open the discussion a bit further with asking what makes you or any other member of this board believe that this is the truth?

I understand that you already said you're not even suggesting that in your post above but believe it is something of importance in regards to this thread. This site is nothing different than any other where it's members think they are on the right path etc... it's just another drop in the bucket of human confusion soup. The only thing I've seen on this site is a meeting of folks who feel better that there is others like them who fit God's message into their chosen life style. There are free-minds "scholars" and "mullahs" too. Just cause we think we are getting away from the rigid thought of tradition all we are doing is really just creating new ones. This is all nothing new.

Anyway, I think you understand what I'm getting at. So, do you think it's a good idea or not?

I think I do Phoenix1. It's not whether or not I think it's a good idea or not. No one listens to me anyway.

It's going to happen no matter what. The question we need to ask is whether what's happening is in line with God's Will and God's Message or is it just old fashion human desire and vanity? peace

Picture this for a moment ), Khalil in blue trousers is khalil in blue trousers, khalil in red trousers is khalil in red trousers and khalil in black trousers is khalil in black trousers. Although my trousers change, I still remain Khalil. I may discard my trousers at any moment and still remain as khalil.

It is the same with the message, it wears many terms, many trousers. The message its self is not dependant on those terms, they can be discarded without discarding the message.
