Overwhelming

Salam folks,
I'm a newbie on this forum, I've been reading the posts and threads but there's just so much information, is it endless?. This forum can get really overwhelming especially to a newbie like me, ! I wonder if there's a more efficient way to categorize the topics further into sub topics/forum? I don't know, just throwing suggestions out there.
So how long has this free-minds.org forum been running for? When did it start, who started it, Well done by the way to the person responsible, good job!! Thank you!

I felt the same way with the fact that people here post alot. It could take someone an hour or even two to read all of the posts in a popular topic.

This forum is relatively 'light', when it comes to the number of posts. The search function can be very helpful. The main site - www.free-minds.org - can also be used to look for certain topics that can act as a summary. Otherwise, if you find it difficult to find a subject or some part of it, you can always start a thread and go from there.

The person responsible for starting it, that would be Layth. As for the forum, everyone is a part of it, there's been a lot of contribution from a lot of individuals over the years. As for when it started... hmm I joined in February 2003, and if I'm not mistaken (and I very well could be - so dont quote me -[ ) the forum started sometime in December 2002.
reminiscing... we've been through some interesting times over the years. O0I wonder if we have the 'history of free-minds' on the main site... I forget (That's what old age does to you). But, yeah we should have an 'About' page or something, me thinks. )

Woah, if this is relatively 'light', I wouldn't want to encounter one that's relatively 'heavy'. General Issues has 42517 posts, Questions about the Quran has 19400 Posts. A lot of the posts tend to be quite wordy, full of information.

I went through each forum finding the subjects that looked most interesting to me and read and occasionally replied to those. Then I used the "Mark as Read" function at the top of each of the forums. Now I just use the "Show unread posts since last visit" at the top of the page everytime I show up, that way I always see the new postings and the ones that are currently active.

Yeah, good suggestions, that's why I like this engine the best, it has so many cool features. When I'm in a hurry, I check 'show new replies to your posts'. )
