      Irshad Manji? She's frequently discussed here... and AFAIK the general consensus here is that she's trying too hard to please the west. She does raise some interesting points, but her position's not that agreeable here.

          I surfed through her web, and frankly I found a slightly different Irshad than the one who wrote "the trouble with islam". She is still far from being analytic rather than reactionistic, but now she at least acknowledges a difference between culture and islam.

          I still feel she does not want to even come near the quraan to try to understand it away from culture and "history". She wants a reform "the christian way", putting the script on hold and move on with what the society acknowledges. Hardly an islamic reform. A submission...to society.

          I just hope that some of the muslims who activly support her help her be more rational and
