According to Al Quran Human's Heart is Naturally Good or Evil?
-
During a discussion with Christians in another forum I made a personal assumption that human's heart is naturally good which surprised them because they said the Bible proves otherwise. So Im wondering what does Al Quran say about this issue? Is human's heart inherently evil or good?

Peace Be Upon You
Depends what their definition of the "heart" is and what your definition of the "heart" is.
Ego bad
Essence good -
Peace Jankren,
From my understanding, the heart is viewed in the Quran as a reciever/sender, like UPS, but for feelings and understanding. Hence it can be hardened or closed or veiled.
I view it as a door, its not the door but the guests that are 'bad' or 'good', it is our choice to open it to either. I would say the environment that the heart functions best at is when it hosts 'good' guests, it will rebel when it hosts 'bad' guests.
Somethin interesting I recall, the quran talks about our heart and our chests and maybe even uses another term to refer to that region.

yeah, Christians believe that you are born with sin.
I know that's not true.
I don't know whether we are naturally good or naturally 'neutral.' I'm leaning toward the latter. Most Christians, most believe in origional sin to give an excuse to say that anyone that dosent join them goes to hell. So actually, most christians do believe people are naturaly bad.

According to QSA.7/179 what so called heart is mind, because its function is to understand something (Al Quran). Minds together with sight and hears are man's assets (QS.16/7, when these was organised to learn and understand Al Quran, evil will dominate his minds.

I really like your interpretation, I agree. I think we are not either Evil/Good when born, but can turn either way over our choices. God knows all that we do, and all the choices we will make before we do, but he is the watcher, we make those choices, he just watches as we do. I don't beleive God made people born evil or with sin, and then asks them to find goodness. I think God made us free from a disposition to both, and allowed our feeble brains to choose over a course of time, what would be most prevalant about us in nature, such as sin/evil and goodness.
You know, there are some children who when born, slowly exhibit sociopathic behavior at an early age, and then there are some children who exhibit keen empathy and compassion which leads them at young ages to be humanitarians and sometimes what we earthlings call angels on earth.
Anyway, Im rambling. My point is I agree!

Here is what the Quran says about humans (not the heart alone)
1434 The human is indeed transgressing, disbelieving.
428 God wants to make easy for you; and mankind was created weak.
Good humans are the exception, rather than the rule
1032 The human is indeed in loss.
1033 Except those who believe, do good works, support one another with the truth, and support one another with perseverance.
