    Peace,
I understand this ayah as showing us when God showed mankind the essence of creation that it dwells in a realm seemingly separate from God (but of course, isn't) --this idea of naming shows us that Adam is being taught how to be able to stand apart and above the rest of the created world. We, as mankind, are the 'top-dogs' of creation. Within the realm of creation, we are the Khulifaa. By God's leave, we have much power in this realm via our creative thoughts and actions, despite this, our power can never extend outside of the realm of the created --only that is the domain of the ultimate God, it is He that governs and maintains from outside of the created world and only to Him must we abdicate our authority--all of the controlling forces (the angels) prostrated themselves thereafter to Adam, save Iblis -- the essence of the uncontrolled, unformed thought impulse that can compel mankind to destructive action.

    ....Just my two cents worth.......

      Peace

God taught Adam names of object; in which language? In all future languages; which objects? existing ones or future objects as well?

      ... just curious.

      Cheers

      Hello

The verse says Al Asmaa Kuluha, i.e. all the obejct, however this might means all te object in question up there. so it might be even some objects that we are not aware of

      Salam

please can any one who understand Arabic explain the literal translation of WA allama adama asama...2;31.

Asma'a kullaha means ism of everythings. Ism is a idiology or systems such as liberalism. But Allah taught Adam and Muhammad as well by Allah's ism (bismirabbikalladzi khalaq)

Allah's taught are kauniyahs (nature) and kauliyahs (ad diin - righteous life system for man).

So when Allah taught Adam by asma'a kullaha means Allah inspiring Adam with sciences relating to nature and Islamic life system instead of this is stone, this id pencill etc, and it took long time to proceed. If Muhammad took 23 years to understand and suceed Allah's taught so did Adam.

Asma'a kullaha means ism of everythings.

          Hello

Great, so that should be the answer to the question because the question was about the LITERAL meaning, right?

Ism is a idiology or systems such as liberalism.

Any evidences from the Quran or a trusted Arabic source?

But Allah taught Adam and Muhammad as well by Allah's ism (bismirabbikalladzi khalaq)

So it is "Read in the system of your God who created", not "Read in the name of your God who created"?

Allah's taught are kauniyahs (nature) and kauliyahs (ad diin - righteous life system for man).

Hmmmm, did Allah say that in the Quran?

So when Allah taught Adam by asma'a kullaha means Allah inspiring Adam with sciences relating to nature and Islamic life system instead

But the question was A LITERAL MEANING not a metaphor

of this is stone, this id pencill etc, and it took long time to proceed. If Muhammad took 23 years to understand and suceed Allah's taught so did Adam.

I have no issue regarding the time and how long it took for Adam to learn Al Asmaa Kulaha, however according to the same hadith that told us the Quran took 23 years to be revealed, the hadith told us that Adam lived 40 years in the heaven before he was sent to earth, so I guess we have 40 years for Adam as a possible period of learning, but it seems at the end of learning the SYSTEM he failed

mate, what you say makes no sense

          why you are doing that?

          Salam

Al Quran never tells that Adam was staying at some outerspace, but at jannah. Jannah is garden, gaden is a place where single or varrous plantations species are planted and maintained very well. In QS.71/17 Allah tells us that he makes man (mu'mineen) as His platation.

And very specific in QS.14/24-25 He teachs us about this type of plantations. Man who choose to surender to Satan's platations are not Allah's plantations.

In short Adam lived in jannah means Adam was living amongst Allah's plantations (mu'mineen). So we understand that Pharaoh was also expelled from jannah doesnot means expelled from outerspace but from his kingdom.

              Hello

I'm realy appaled by the Quran ignorance many young Muslims show on this web site, let me clear this flaw that I caught another Muslim red handed commiting it

And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet with a better (greeting) than it or return it; surely Allah takes account of all things.

              (86)

-> See how clear it is ? And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet with a better (greeting) than it or return it; surely Allah takes account of all things.?

Now, let me see what you have to say about the Quran

Al Quran never tells that Adam was staying at some outerspace,

Did I say that Jannah is at some outerspace, no I did not nor I heard any one saying that

              but at jannah.

yep, he lived in Jannah, what is new?

well the question is, where is the Jannah?

I have no bloody idea, do you know where it is?

              Jannah is garden,

hmmm, you mean made of gradens, right?

however I'm sure Jannah also conatins other things but gardens, do you agree?

gaden is a place where single or varrous plantations species are planted and maintained very well.

LOL, that was funny, thanks for the laugh

now here is the question again for you, does the Jannah contains gardens only?

In QS.71/17 Allah tells us that he makes man (mu'mineen) as His platation.

WRONG, 7117 never said what you said above

Firstly it never mentioned "Al Mumineen", secondly it was never said that it is His planation, you need to restudy the verse

And very specific in QS.14/24-25 He teachs us about this type of plantations.

You are talking clear cut non sense, 1424-25 is a clear metaphor (Mathal) and is only in regards to what we say "Kalimat", and it means the good words are like the good trees as a metaphor (Mathal) , it has nothing to do with any type of plantions, it was an unknown tree "Shagrah" "Nakirah", you truly donlt know what you are talking about

Man who choose to surender to Satan's platations are not Allah's plantations.

Satan was neber mentioned nor I'm aware that he has planation, come on bro are you that mixed up?, what all that has to do with the literal meaning of "Al Asmaa Kulaha"?

In short Adam lived in jannah means Adam was living amongst Allah's plantations (mu'mineen).

what a load of non sense

So we understand that Pharaoh was also expelled from jannah doesnot means expelled from outerspace but from his kingdom.

holy moly non sense, what pharaoh has to do with it?

anyway bro, don't worry about answering my questions, I;m not interested to dialogue with you after the massive amount of non sense you are promiting against Allah and His Quran

              I seel refuge by Allah

              Salam

                Peace

                Allahs plantation ?
                Satans plantation?
                Plantation of mumeen ?

                Allah is a planter ?
                Pharoah was in a plantation..?

Are there any other plantations other than these ?

                      peace
                      Adam represents us (our mind?).
If you look at 229 and 230, it's talking about God creating the universe (all things) for us, and about placing a successor on earth (which is obviously us).
                      I'll dismiss myself, thank you.

                            Peace,

To give my comments, I take the haa to refer to the angels. The Angels can take haa, and hum. So I see it that God taugh mankind the names/characteristics of the all the angels andm them brough them before the angels and the angels didn't even know what mankind was when he was infront of them. Thereby showing the angels to not question God as he knows best. I also take khaleefatun to mean mukhaalifun shadeedan, or that is a very corrupt individual, instead of its meaning as sometime who takes anothers place. This gives sense to the angels protest about someone who would shed blood, as God said he was putting a khaleefatun i.e. a very corrupt one on planet earth.

Do you mean, instead of the literal translation "God taught Adam the names, all of them", it should be "God taught Adam the names, all of the angels"?

                                  Peace,

Ahmed Baghet please try to contain your ignorant words and dissaproving attitude of me to yourself. I've talked to you personally and I know where you stand, and how you would like to avenge yourself for me making you feel like you don't know Arabic. But please try to keep these personal feelings of yours to yourself.

                                  Samia,

Yes I think it can be and should be understood as God taught Adam the names of all of them(the angels). If I find an example of angels as haa in the quran (which I'm sure i've seen before I'll let you know and post it here).

Also though my connection between khaalafa(mukhaalafun) and khaleef/khaleefat is correct. I actually drew a parrallel that i did not need to draw. I looked in the dictionary of the holy Quran by Omar Mannaan and the definition for khalafa is clearly there.

                                  The entry says

Khalafa To be altered, corrupt, ascend a mountain, remain behind, disobey, transgress, forfeit one's word, disagree.

These meanings are no longer used in Islamic and Modern Fushaa's though its mark is still clear from the usage of khaalafa (to violate, disobey, defy, contrary, opposing).

Understanding khaleefatun from this meaning gives perfect sense to the objection of the Angels.

I actually knew it was this from my earlier study of lane's entry. However, I hadn't looked for this entry in any of the other dictionaries. But here it is plain as day.

                                  Godbless,
                                  Anwar

                                    Hello

What do you want me to do, approve your non sense that your promote using Allah words?, on the other hand I have never spoken to your personally, I don't know you actually, if you mean some PMs, again that is not personally, sounds like you have a problem not with Arabic

I have no personal feeling to you because as I said I dont know who your are nor you have done anyting bad to me personally , I only attack the non sense you do by manipulating the Arabic words in the Quran, Itaqqi Allah man and don't mislead others, don't you fear Allah that He will held you accountable lying about Him?

Here is what you said a while back, sounds like you got yourself red handed by telling me to keep my critics to myself

As for Layth, Ahmed Baghat and Ayman I hate to sound to critical but I have to say 'Shame on you.' You guys, if you went to religious schools, were more exposed to this and you chose to reject Cl. Arabic grammar altogether, putting yourself on shaky ground knowledge-wise, rather than challenge what they taught you with better scholarship. And showing them that they have not been fully following the scholarship that they claim to be lords over.

                                    Godbless again,
                                    Anwar

"And he taught Adam (as) the names of all things". What is the state of the mind of a human being at the time of his creation? "It is He Who brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when ye knew nothing about any thing (shai) (ref 167. Shai (thing is one which has dimensions). Adam a.s. was also created so his condition was not different from any human being created after him. He was to be taught. Knowledge begins with the knowing of the names (codification) of things. Nothing can be stored in the memory until and unless we know or give it an "ism" i.e. name or code. After telling names of things to Adam, those things were placed before the eyes of Malaika and they were asked to name them, if they were true in their comment about Adam being granted freedom of action on earth. Their answer was "We don't have the knowledge(Ilm) about these things". Seeing a thing does not become knowledge if someone does not know its "ism" name. Knowledge means to know the name of a thing and its visual dimensions, storage in the memory which enables a man to distinguish between two things and then retrieving data from memory to narrate (Bayan, Tazkira) it.
Quran e Majeed is very elaborate on "Epistemology". Inshalla, there will be a book titled "Takhyul and Taffakar" shortly on site www.haqeeqat.org.pk and also a book "Adam aur Iblees-All time classic"

                                        peace to all,

can i safely refer to the meaning as God taught Adam the names of the angels and asked the angels what their names were. they could not reply and He asked Adam to. Adam Named Them. To that God orderd them to subject themselves to man. This is to show us the superlativity of man over all creation. that is, not only can man Reason , but he has the capacity to name things distinctly, thereby being the repository of Knowledge . Peace,

Maybe you have a point, ansi. I usually don't like to see man as superior to anything else (different but not superior) (I'll have to give some Quranic verses to show that). However, in the end we WERE of the best constitution, however we have to prove our loyalty to God in this life to gain back our permanent graces with Him.

                                          Godbless,
