    Salam All~

I have been meaning for sometime to try to get a better understanding of some of the verses in the Quran, but find myself distracted by many other topics already posted. Anyhow..I was wondering if you all could help me understand the following verse better * it is of my opinion that the restricted month, is the month of Hajj and Ramadan?* see...I am confused myself, why I think this..just a guess. That's why I need your help.

    1. They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month. Say "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members." Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you Turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.

My question is also, if this is the month of hajj...when the month exactly start and end? And also, I beleive their is more ayats in the Quran somewhere stating what else not to do during the prohibited month, can anyone find them?

The following ayats are ayats that came before the 2217, which make me beleive the prohibited month is the month of Ramadan.2185. Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.

    1. They ask thee concerning the New Moons. Say They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time in (the affairs of) men, and for Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if ye enter your houses from the back It is virtue if ye fear Allah. Enter houses through the proper doors And fear Allah. That ye may prosper.

    2. And complete the Hajj or 'umra in the service of Allah. But if ye are prevented (From completing it), send an offering for sacrifice, such as ye may find, and do not shave your heads until the offering reaches the place of sacrifice. And if any of you is ill, or has an ailment in his scalp, (Necessitating shaving), (He should) in compensation either fast, or feed the poor, or offer sacrifice; and when ye are in peaceful conditions (again), if any one wishes to continue the 'umra on to the hajj, He must make an offering, such as he can afford, but if he cannot afford it, He should fast three days during the hajj and seven days on his return, Making ten days in all. This is for those whose household is not in (the precincts of) the Sacred Mosque. And fear Allah, and know that Allah Is strict in punishment.

    3. For Hajj are the months well known. If any one undertakes that duty therein, Let there be no obscenity, nor wickedness, nor wrangling in the Hajj. And whatever good ye do, (be sure) Allah knoweth it. And take a provision (With you) for the journey, but the best of provisions is right conduct. So fear Me, o ye that are wise.

    4. Celebrate the praises of Allah during the Appointed Days. But if any one hastens to leave in two days, there is no blame on him, and if any one stays on, there is no blame on him, if his aim is to do right. Then fear Allah, and know that ye will surely be gathered unto Him.

Thanks everyone, any help and relevant ayats and surahs would be appreciated O)

      Salam..

I believe that restricted months are the months agreed by the fighting parties for a ceasefire. It is illogical to say that there are certain months that believers are not allowed to fight. And it is illogical for disbelievers to take heed of that warning. It takes two to tango. As you have noticed, the names of the months were not mentioned.

Look at the context of 94-5

      1. Except for those with whom you had a treaty from among those who have set up partners if they did not reduce anything from it nor did they plan to attack you; you shall continue the treaty with them until its expiry. God loves the righteous.

      2. So when the restricted months have passed, then you may kill those who have set up partners wherever you find them, and take them, and surround them, and stand against them at every point. If they repent, and honor the connection, and contribute towards betterment, then you shall leave them alone. God is Forgiving, Merciful.

You shall fight except those with whom you had a treaty...and when the restricted months have passed, the fighting resumes. I believe the restricted months are stated in the treaty.

      I hope this helps. )
