    Peace Be Upon You All
I know God does as He pleases. But why do you think that no women ever get that title? I guess the closest would be Mary but she was just the messenger of a messenger so to speak ... She has a pretty cool title though ... the best of all women

but still ... anyone have a guess as to why?

It is balanced women give birth to messengers, men become messengers. Otherwise, men will have no important role to play.

<<women give birth to messengers!>> Is there any role of man in that?

<<Otherwise, men will have no important role to play.>> Can a woman give birth to a child without a man?

Can you see the role of a man now?? ;D

I mean literally being pregnant and giving birth. The man's role is not HIS role, but THEIR role.

Can a woman give birth to a child without a man?

Mary mother of Jesus rings any bell?

A woman cannot be a prophet for the obvious reason.

Male domination......even god is referred to as He.....look at what the male messenger had to go through when they warned their people, so you can well imagine what could have happened to a female messenger if there had been one.
this is just an opinion....I have no other explanation to your question )

Sorry. The only case is a woman giving birth to a messenger. That's not enough for my first statement?

I think the description given to Mary is that of messengers. I do not remember the exact verse(s).
Also, how about the queen of Shiba? Didn't she lead her people to believe in God and delivered to them the message of Solomon?

There are powerful queens in the history, and the quran has also mentioned one in the story of Solomon. But I think the reason women cannot be messengers is that they have to give birth to children and thus are unable to perform a full time duty as a prophet.

And We sent not before you (as Messengers) ANY BUT MEN, whom We inspired from among the people of townships. Have they not travelled through the earth and seen what was the end of those who were before them? And verily, the home of the Hereafter is the best for those who fear Allah and obey Him (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds, and by performing righteous good deeds). Do you not then understand? 12109

And We sent not before you (O Muhammad SAW) BUT MEN to whom We inspired, so ask the people of the Reminder if you do not know. And We did not create them (the Messengers, with) bodies that ate not food, nor were they immortals, 217-8

I do not think "men" here is in opposition to "women" but to "aliens/jinn/angels" explained later in each verse

Yea I'm pretty sure Soloman was adamant about crushing her or destroying her kingdom if she does not come submissive. So i think she was a believer but not exactly prophet-hood or messengership status. I could be wrong but i remember reading a verse to that effect.

Also, just for argument's sake ;D I'm assuming if a woman did receive such an important duty she would hold off on child bearing or perhaps God would give her natural birth control for a time ... dunno it still doesn't hold water. Messengers and Prophets were fathers too...

Yes it can be, but God has never told us any female messenger, there can or cannot be. But I think I agree with you.... handshake

                                        Peace all,

The word used in 12109 and 217 is "rijaal" which does not always mean "men".

434 The RIJAAL are QAWWAMUN ALA the NISAA by what God preferred/favored some of them over some and for what they spend of their money.

The word for "man" in Classical Arabic is "emri'un", and for woman is "imra'a". In 434 if "rijaal" is translated as "men" and "nisaa" is translated as "women", then what about the women who are the breadwinners, and the men who stay home in a married relationship ?

According to Classical Arabic dictionary, "rijaal" can also mean "those with strength to walk, or those who go on foot", meaning the breadwinners in context of 434 (they go out on foot to work and win bread so that they can provide), and "nisaa" means "those who are late/remaining" implying those who stay.

Thus a better translation would be

434 Breadwinners (irrespective of gender) are responsible/guardian of those who stay (not work) by what God preferred/favoured some of the people (with work, ability to gain) over some (those who stay) and with what they spend.

Now 2228 will make more sense with this translation

2228 ................But the RIJAAL/breadwinners (irrespective of gender) will have a greater responsibility (degree/daraja) over them in this............

Please see the following thread for a discussion on this issue

                                        http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=12037.msg89261#msg89261

Also please see the following article which is convincing for Mary being a prophet

                                        http//free-minds.org/articles/messengers/maryam.htm

The Qur'an clearly indicates that the role and significance of Maryam is equal in status to that of a prophet, and what distinguishes her from prophets is simply that she delivers a messenger rather than a message per se. Prophet Muhammad delivered a "messenger" (the qur'aan); similarly Mary delivered a messenger (Jesus) !

Just because The God has not mentioned a female messenger does not mean there was not any female sent as a messenger ever. There are plenty of messengers that The God has not mentioned.

According to my understanding yes especially in a tribal/feudal society, because it challenges the egos of male chauvinism beside the matters of faith.

Joan of Arc the patron saint of France was burned at the stake in 1431.

                                          peace
