Quranism

Odd, I always had the impression that it was called "Islam". Is that not what "quranism" is? Someone who follows the Quran, i.e. God's message, and God's message only?
Call me a "Quranite", I would be proud.
Better than "Mohammedan", one would imagine. You can't use "Quranite" in the pejorative - you can, however, use "Mohammedan" as such.

Quranism is an ideology not a sect. It is the ideology of following the Quran alone. It is equally used with Quran-alone(ism,) Quraniyyah, and is associated specifically with Quranists, Quran-aloners Ahl-Alquran, Quranites, & Quranies. All of these descriptives are synonyms. I say desciriptive because these are not titles but descriptives or adjectives for those who only follow the Quran.
The reason I would object to Muhamadanism is because our religion is not to be centered around the last prophet, in exlusion to others but the divine message that he brought us. The Quran.
Those of you who don't like these names don't have to use them. Take them or leave them. Just know that they all describe what the Quran-alone ideology is and those who follow it, we know well that this does not refer to a sect, but to a way of thinking.

AnwarI personally don't prefer to use descriptions or titles that are not used specifically in Al Quran to describe what I believe in and follow. But it still amazes me that traditional muslims will use the word "Quran" in one of the forms you have denoted to imply something bad to follow. That is the ultimate of blindness to me for a person who would otherwise call themselves a "muslim".
People will call us what they want to though, and I have been called worse; so it doesn't bother me. But why those who follow the guidance in Al Quran alone as protected written scripture from Allah, why they would create new names to describe themselves or their groups when Allah makes it clear what He has called us; this is beyond my reasoning.

because people already have their minds made up of what 'muslim' means.. you go to a mosque and say these things in arabic that are un-quranic and THAT makes you a muslim,
some of us don't want to be associated with 'those' muslims

sure you can... i recall a conversation my friend reported to me about someone who was gossiping about me "but he doesn't follow hadith...they call these people quraniyyuwn... and some people say that's worse than a kafir!"

Don't misinterpret. Clarifying again - "Quranite" implies one who follows the Quran. A Muslim, is therefore, a Quranite. For a Muslim to use the word "Quranite" in the pejorative, that is the equivalent of using the word "Muslim" - it makes no sense.

I agree with brother AaRon here. I have heard "sunnis" use the term "Quranite", etc. like it is a disease worse than aids, and definitely used to mean something worse than kafir (rejector) or munafic (hypocrite). But just like OPF is saying, it makes absolutely no sense to me for them to try to use the term this way. They are shooting themselves in the foot by doing so. How can a "muslim" try to explain to a non-muslim that those who follow the Quran only are the worst of people and non-muslim? Stupid on many fronts for sure.
