we were all alive previously

- How can you reject God when you were dead and He brought you to life? Then He makes you die, then He brings you to life, then to Him you return.
does this mean what RK said it means? that we were alive in God's kingdom then we died because we didn't make up our mind about God's authority and supremacy, then we are brought to live here on earth, then we die, then we come back to live (as soles) and go back to God!
Sorry if this has been discussed before, I just think it's interesting (especially when you meet someone and really feel that you knew them previously from another life!) O.k maybe now I've taken things too far! ;D But who knows? Thanks for the comments.

Depends. If it is in the past tense, then most likely. I have no doubt that God could/would do that.
From that verse we can infer
1.) We were all dead at one point ==> have lived 0 lives
2.) God brought us to life ==> have lived 1 life
3.) We die again ==> have lived 1 life
4.) We are brought back to life ==> have lived 2 lives
5.) We return to God - Logically, this only can mean we return to God, i.e. on the day of judgement. Unless death = returning to God, then this is presumably the afterlife, meaning that we have not lived 2 lives on Earth, just 1 on Earth and one hereafter.

Salam,
- How can you reject God when you were dead and He brought you to life? Then He makes you die, then He brings you to life, then to Him you return.
What I understood is that Allah made lots and lots of souls in his kingdom (we all used to live in heaven) and we were all alive there (as souls) then a heavenly dispute occurred questioning Allah's absolute authority and power. That's when a challenge occurred between Satan and Allah. So when we were all brought back to life, the souls that committed to serving Allah and believe in his supremacy became angels, the ones who followed Satan turned into Jinns, and the ones who didn?t make up their minds turned into humans starting with Adam, and finally, the souls who couldn?t make up their mind and then repented became animals and other creatures. Whenever someone is born Allah chooses a soul from the depository of souls and puts it into the new creature, humans also have a Jinn soul with them to represent Satan?s view.
None of the souls could remember this previous life & the dispute ? He made us all die. Allah remade us after the Adam and Eve story which occurred to show Satan and the heavenly society just how weak humans are. Humans were made into vulnerable, mortal human bodies from clay to test us in a limited life. Our weakness is represented by Adam?s example that we can be tempted by even a fruit! (which goes to show you how in our previous life we may have been tempted by Satan). Of course Allah pre-planned everything to show Satan what he is worth. The angels get to serve us (bring wind and rain) & receive messages from Allah to help us. The Jinns live around us and in us and support Satan & receive his messages (unless you teach your own Jinn to repent and read Quran and so on.) ?I.e. don?t listen to bad thoughts and ask for Allah?s guidance. The other creatures get to serve us too (we eat them etc.) and they glorify Allah in the sunrise and sunset.
We are given a brain so we can make choices whether to follow Allah or Satan (remember Satan hates humans and was jealous of Adam & Allah wanted to prove to Satan that his creation ?human? is better than Satan). Obviously, Allah doesn?t tolerate Satan dishonoring his creation. That?s why we?re here, we?re not being punished for what Adam did (Allah knew that was going to happen of course). It is Satan that has to be proven wrong about his belief that he is better than humans (he creates disease &Humans fight disease, he creates misery & we try to help the world). Others that work for Satan and worship money and spread evil have a painful retribution. Allah doesn?t need this challenge with Satan and he can get rid of everyone and everything right now if He wants. But we made a mistake in our previous life and so we must be tested. This is our chance in this limited life on earth to repent. It seems like eventually then, if you are righteous then you will be purified to become just like Angles and live in heaven forever and ever.
This is what I understand. Does anyone understand something different??????

- How can you reject God when you were dead and He brought you to life? Then He makes you die, then He brings you to life, then to Him you return.
quote]
Salaam
When soul/self (nafs) is mentioned in the qur'aan, it is in reference to humans only.
The way I understand this verse, or in general, is that all souls are created and are reserved somewhere between heaven and earth (barzakh interval; gap; isthmus..) where they are in a state of being dormant (hardly living or feeling anything but nothingness). Every time a body is created, a soul is assigned to it, to live in a state of consciousness. This soul is eager to return back, so we have the sleep which is compared to death in the qur'aan.
After death, the soul returns to its "barzakh" (save exceptions) ,being dormant again, until it's resurrected.
Death in this verse can simply refer to sleep as in
3942 "God takes away the souls at the time of their death and those which do not die during their sleep. He keeps those souls which He has ordained death and sends the rest for a time appointed...".

i've seen other translations of 228 where instead of the word "dead" the word "lifeless" is used. to me it makes more sense that way because it would go with 327-9
327 The One who perfected everything He created and He began the creation of the human from mud.
328 Then He made his offspring from a structure derived from a lowly liquid.
329 Then He evolved him, and blew into him from His spirit. And He made for you the hearing, the eyesight, and the hearts; rarely are you thankful.in a way, we were lifeless in a womb and then God blew into him from His spirit and we bacame alive.
the verse says He brought us to life not brought us back to life.

Peace,
I believe we were alive before and definitely committed the error of believing others instead of keeping God and what he said to us in mind. So this life is a test to prove that we can do this. Interesting it is almost like the same experience all over again. One of the clues I took for this was 711. 'We shaped you and then we told the angels bow to Adam' Adam is humanity, and banee Adam are its members. Wa zawjihi means 'including his mate.' I also happen to believe becaue of this in the original sin (not the way Christians believe in it exactly) and that the angels protest was correct, we are corrupt because of what we had done before this earthly life, letting an ungodly force seduce us away from God.
Godbless,

I find the interpretation of Adam as humanity quite fascinating!
It seems that the quran does not support reincarnation as in living many sequencial earthly lives. Some people however do have memories from past lives. I heard one explanation of this, and it was simply that the past lives are actually from your ancestors. It might be very possible that we can connect with other times and other people through some other dimension. I guess there is more than our three dimensions in space and our linear perception of time. Things may very well be much more unified, holistic and interconnected than we usually are able to percieve. Humans build their view of the world and themselves on the concept of separation. I think this is very limiting and unfortunate.

Salam,
Thank you Zulf, your thoughts are interesting. I KNOW for a fact that there is more to life than science and logic and what we can see. And God responds to those who believe in Him, think about Him all the time and believe that He can do anything and everything.
Many psychological theories are bulls***. Humans such as Freud think they know what they're talking about. But only God knows. He does give us signs, He does respond and He can do anything He wants.

Is it possible that memories of "past lives" are passed down through birth? I.e. that not just brain cells store memories? I read something on the main page about a girl with a transplanted heart with such a memory.

Salaams All,
Where we alive before? Really?
Those who violate enjoining of His bond after its undertaking and sever what commands His bond for it that is to be joined and create disorder in their disposition they who are the losers.
How can you deny in His Bond/ relationship seeing that you were without life and He gave you life, then will He cause you to die, and will again bring you to life and to Him is your return.
What is His Bond?
http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=14336.0
Isn?t this the life and obviously the next life the ayah is talking about only?
God Bless.

God created you, it mean He gave you life. Then He will cause you to die, and then you will be brought back to life and return to Him.
Well maybe an arabic expert can see for the words in arabic if they are well translated.

Salam,
We could be here on earth because of a mistake that we committed in our previous life?
-
Salaam all
Knowing what happens after we die is explained in many verses (nothing happens untill we are resurrested) and is a pointer that we were not alive before.
As for flashback for previous lives, I think they are a diffrent kind of dreams. Or maybe that informations about past lives/generations do not perish the way materialistic things do, so some of us have the ability to receive and pick them up, and get the impression that they were present then.

Salam,
But if you die a martyr you go straight to heaven according to the Quran true?

Salam,
But if you die a martyr you go straight to heaven according to the Quran true?
Yes of course IF... So this is an exception. Not straight to heaven, but alive with God ejoying His generosity, and their one-sided-connection with the world continues, i.e they see other martyrs and are happy for them, or they feel sorry for their opponents who do not know the pleasure of knowing God and His forgiveness and all other attributes.
