54:1

peace,
traditional translation-
The Hour has draw near and the moon has split (541)the one you gave up the free-minds site several times-
The Hour is near and the moon is breached. (541)the one in the free-minds translation-
The Hour has drawn near and the moon will drift off (541)the transliteration-
Iqtarabati alssaAAatu wainshaqqa alqamaruwainshaqqa judging by these translations either means "has split", "is breached", or "will drift off", if you have an answer, a list of the definitions of the root word, or anything to help make a reply

peace,
may be the moon of the verse is an idole.
it is not The moon.
i know that god is almighty, i have no doubt about that.
if god want to break the moon, it will be.
but if the moon was broken, every people on earth would see it, not only the people of mo.
i heard that nabateans worship the moon, and moon idol.
so, it make a certain sens....
but god knows better.

Salaams idris,
This little peice is from lanes
waqadh wainshaqqaalqamaru =and the case hath become menifest
I suppose it could be as we say "Its clear as day".
Sousing the message trans
- The Hour draws near, and has become menifest .
- And if they see a sign, they turn away and Say ?Continuous magic!?
- And they disbelieved, and followed their desires, and every old tradition.
- While the news had come to them in which there was sufficient warning.
- A perfect wisdom; but the warnings are of no benefit.
- So turn away from them; the Day will come when the caller will announce a terrible disaster.
- With their eyes humiliated, they come out of the graves like scattered locusts.
- Hastening towards the caller, the rejecters will Say ?This is a difficult Day.?
Salaams.

Peace be upon you,
I am lost as to the responses on this thread. I will just add however that the moon is used as a timing device according to its phases. Some of them "appear" to us on earth as if the moon has been "split" or a piece has been broken off.
I am offering no explanation of the verse, just some thoughts.
-
Peace be upon you Wakas,
Thanks for that clarification.
What are some of the aspects of the moon? We can use it for timing, due to its phases. It REFLECTS the light of the SUN, which gives life(light).
SYMBOLICALLY- The sun represents the divine nature, always giving, in need of nothing (symbolically). Yet we cannot look directly at the "Divinity", we must REFLECT on the light that is sent down.
WHen does our REFLECTION benefit us most? The God says the nightime is the best time. Is it a coincidence that the night is the "home" of the moon?
Do the phases of the moon and its attraction to the EARTH(humans are created of earth) indicate times when we can understand better? Do we learn more by studying during a full moon than a new moon?
Everything in life runs according to CYCLES. A man (think of the sun) can always give his seed, but a woman(think of the moon which has 28 day cycles like the woman) can not always ACCEPT the seed due to her CYCLES.
The ancients understood this very well, especially since they did not have distractions such as TV's and ELECTRIC CLOCKS and lights. They got in TUNE with creation and realized that there are right and wrong times for everything.
Salaat is at STATED TIMES.
So in conclusion, I feel a certain connection with the meanings Wakas has put foward of "open a passage". Reflecting opens the path, yet some reject the signs.
Just some thoughts.

Peace Kyle,
The God says the nightime is the best time. Is it a coincidence that the night is the "home" of the moon?
That is simply not true. In my understanding, throughout the Quran, the verses reflect upon the night and the day, as equally and well established for those who understand.
A man (think of the sun) can always give his seed, but a woman(think of the moon which has 28 day cycles like the woman) can not always ACCEPT the seed due to her CYCLES.
Think for a moment and reverse the situation by your own admonition. It doesn't add up.
The ancients understood this very well, especially since they did not have distractions such as TV's and ELECTRIC CLOCKS and lights. They got in TUNE with creation and realized that there are right and wrong times for everything.
What I do know is that the right and wrong times for everything are well suited for all times, not just the ancients.
Salaat is at STATED TIMES.
Salaat, again, as I understand, is for all times (24/7), hence the commitments, obligations, routines, daily chores, duties, etc. A good example is of verse 56, which explains cleanliness, hygiene.
