notice that site have a new ignore button. However, wouldn't that be considered unfair? What if someone said something mean/ignorant in on thread, yet in another thread has something valuable to say but is ignore. Is that ignore feature apply only on the specific thread or all threads?

      Peace Bro,

Whether or not a user will post something useful is a dilemma one should sort out before ignoring. Still, the ignore can be reversed. I doubt if I'll ever ignore anyone - certainly not as a mod - but sometimes some users just don't get a long, and a self induced cooling off period could be helpful.

The ignore is for all threads, but will only have an impact on the ignorer.

BTW, you can't ignore me >D

The "cool off" period thing sound good. it is good that it is reversible.

Be cool if you could "ignore" the mods and their rules! ;D

Seriously though.. I thank God that the mods of this board are not in charge of any real world communities! Or at least I pray to God they aren't. I truely believe they either would be complete fascists.. the kind that do it with a smile.. or they would force the people to rediscover the guillotine. P

The reasons are simple.. if this was a brittney spears forum.. i could understand.. but this is a forum of free ideas.. it is within it's name... ideas about Quran.. ideas about this.. that and the other.. and about disagreeing.. about smiles and frowns... these are all real things.. .all things part of a "community"... there are already plenty of forum rules but ignoring leads to ignorance...

the ignore button is a only an impulse button.. as you say.. it can be undone etc.. but adding it to this site is only showing how much the ideology of those who run this board is akin to the idealogy of the apathy so rampet in our world today... don't like what you see about the war on TV.. change the channel aka.. ignore it.. don't like that someone else's idea is different than yours.. change the channel.. ignore it.. and it goes on...

I know it's no surprise to hear me say these things.. and I also know that it really doesn't matter to the mods what I think.. and I believe that is where elitism begins... as they saying goes... absolute power corrupts absolutely.. yes.. once again.. I know.. "words of the ancients" but words that still stand very true...

there has always been an attempt on this board to bend ideas and ideology towards those who run and are kept in charge of the board.. but that is only a form of elitism... and bent only under one ideology... and I'll tell you.. in my mind.. it definitly is far from the best system... and yes.. I've heard before that Layth "owns" this board etc. etc.. etc.. and that he can do with it what he pleases! this may be true to an extent... but... when you hear so much talk about creating an actual community.. there is a point when the community belongs to the community.. and not one person or a small group... but alas.. the more things seem to change.. the more they stay the same...

anyway.. that's my rant on this.. again i'm sure it's no surprise that I would be in favor of free form communication... this board reeks of the mind set that is spewed by the current political and education system...

              peace

                Dear Mehdi,

I am sorry to say this, but you do not seem to live in the real world.

Rules are imposed on nearly every faccet of life in order to bring about harmony. Even in the earthly garden of paradise God imposed rules on Adam and his mate (do not approach the tree).

Yet, because the mods place rules to bring about harmony we are suddenly elitists and going against the concept of freedom and the study of the Quran!

The ignore button was worked on by one of the mods to help people on the forum who have compalined of being distracted by the spamming that sometimes occurs by posters. If you are a person with the clarity not to be side-tracked by certain posters then you will never need to use it (simple as that).

Also, the more you keep mentioning my name in association with this forum, the more you confirm that it is not a community and will never be since it is run by me - the facsit dictator who wants us to conform!

For God`s sake chill. I am unable to access this forum much of the time (beyond reading posts) and the mods have been given the authority and power to do what they believe is in the interest of the harmony and objective of the forum without ever having to consult me or even get me involved (e.g. I was not even aware of the ignore feature until I read the posts relating to it this morning - and I think it is a good option to have).

                  Layth,

I am sorry to say this, but you do not seem to live in the real world.

as said before... this board reeks of the mind set that is spewed by the current political and education system... what you say here is a good example of the tatics used in today's politics... the use of this type of tactics to paint any opposing view as "crazy" or "out of touch with reality" ... Layth, your words here also again shows the elitism of which i speak.

No worries Layth. I do live the so called "real" world created by megalomaniacs who continuely push their rules upon others under the disguise of harmony.

Also, the more you keep mentioning my name in association with this forum, the more you confirm that it is not a community and will never be since it is run by me - the facsit dictator who wants us to conform!

                  finaly we agree! )

                      ? about the function itself

does the "ignored" know that he/she is being ignored ?

and how do you reverse ?

Who is imposing the ignore button on you?

it appears that both you and Layth seem not to only ignore my post which said, 'the ignore button is only an impulse button.. as you say.. it can be undone etc.. you also ignore the the ramifications of even imposing such an option.. 'but adding it to this site is only showing how much the ideology of those who run this board is akin to the idealogy of the apathy so rampet in our world today... don't like what you see about the war on TV.. change the channel aka.. ignore it.. don't like that someone else's idea is different than yours.. change the channel.. ignore it.. and it goes on... '

therefore by it being there.. it is imposing an option towards apathetic type tendencies...

This another way that elitism is used by the owner and mods of this site to bend ideology in their favor.. the idea that under one's profile you can count the number of times they've been ignored is degrading to that individual.. and can have an effect on the perception of their thoughts, views, and ideas... ofcourse Layth, and the mods are exempt from this form of abasement all together...

It is as if they are themselves above the laws that they impose... this is not only something to I hold to be true.. but also is something I've actually been told by ex-memebers through email...

... and if they pass by vein talk they pass by with dignity.

Is this also a part of the "idealogy of the apathy" you describe?

What about a popup blocker? Are those a part of the "idealogy of the apathy"?

What about a porn filter? A spam filter? What about the spambot protection you have to pass before registering at free-minds? Surely it would be apathetic to ignore those nice and useful viagra ads!

                              Be fair, brother.

                                Salam Nadeem,

Nadeem joon, but who is to say vien talk? or as my translation says it
                                2572. Those who witness no falsehood, and, if they pass by futility, they pass by it with honourable;

after the years of being on and off this site.. I've come to learn pretty much anyone who is here to converse.. is doing so because they feel what they are saying therefore to them it is not falsehood or vien... to give an option to shut that off.. is not the sameas "passing with dignity". no the ideology of apathy is to change the channel.. ignore.. turn off that which one does not agree with simply because they can and have the option to do so... . As an example.. how fast do you think it take today's wars to end.. if in fact the people did not have an option to simply change the channel, turn it their TV or ignore the war?

What about a porn filter? A spam filter? What about the spambot protection you have to pass before registering at free-minds? Surely it would be apathetic to ignore those nice and useful viagra ads!

Nadeem, please think about it.. if you are actually comparing the posts of the members of this board to porn, spam and viagra ads.. then dear, you are the one who is not being fair... and it's kinda degrading to compare posts and ideas of those on this site to such things... don't you think?
                                peace

Abdul Omar Mannan's dictionary pg. 512-513 clearly shows that the meaning is vain talk.

I'm not comparing the posts here to viagra ads. Rather putting your theory of apathy to test. It doesn't pass.

And this is going nowhere. If this function turns out to be a bummer, it will be removed.

It's not being forced on anyone, there might be casual readers out there who would like to refine their experience here and it's upto them whether or not they wish to use it. If it just doesn't work out, it will be removed. Peace.

Well, at least you're right in saying this is going no where. I believe I already qualified this in my original post on this thread by saying 'I know it's no surprise to hear me say these things.. and I also know that it really doesn't matter to the mods what I think.. You present a flawed "test" then you simply say "it doesn't pass." Thank you for once more for proving my point on how 'this board reeks of the mind set that is spewed by the current political and education system...'

I'm not comparing the posts here to viagra ads.

Then what were you comparing it to? Why did you compare the thoughts and ideas of those who post on this site with porn, popup ads, and viagra ads? You clearly used these examples as why you justify the imposing of the ignore button...

Well then we'll just have to agree to disagree, and move on.
