Are you Offended?

Why do we have to censor certain words? Are people really that offended if I say "that sht is fcking beautiful?"
Sure, I'm all for avoiding bad language during discussion, and talking respectfully to other members, but censorship of these few words doesn't prevent that, in fact it doesn't do anything. People can be assholes without saying the F word, and people can be entirely respectful even if they use it.
And why are any of these words so bad? If the context decides the meaning of the word (I'm sure all you quran studyers understand that), then why do we have to censor such words?
And so what if the majority of prudes have a problem with these words in any context? Isn't this site, this forum, about questioning the status quo? -
I'm not offended, but just verbally and linguistically most of those words sound very crude.

I am not offended by these words b/c of the very things that you pointed out, Lobster. However, I do get annoyed when a person uses them for every other word in a sentence.
Interesting fact
Sh*t started out as a commonly used acronym an ships shortly after America was colonized. It was put on the crates in which they had horses. It stood for Ship High In Transit, because they originally shipped the horses down below deck and the deteriorating feces were causing noxious fumes to fill the ship and caused the people on board to get sick. Therefore they started shipping horses on deck so that the people would not get sick.

eheh..
i learned how to use the word "sh*t" from my american room mates..
"Your shit is all over the place", refering to "stuff"
"i have to prepare my shit", refering to "food" -- lol, didn't know you have to prepare em before you flush the toilet!
...why use these words when English has more words that able us to precisely say what we meant?

zenje, I know...it's dem rules that I'm questioning.
See, if it's the rules of a place/forum, I follow them and I have no problem with that. I use another forum where they have almost no rules, but everyone's pretty decent. Personally, I use 'cuss' words on rare occassions with people I know very well, but never to insult with. Watching movies or listening to music with cuss words, I have no problem with (infact I prefer R-Rated due to language), just not infront of my kids. On the other hand, I find it offensive when someone I don't know, uses foul language with me, even in regular conversation.
Does that help?

I agree with Zein except I used to listen to such music, old age must've caught up with me ;D.
-
Peace,
No, I'm not offended but it's not so nice to read such words many times in a sentence.
I wish that I could speak better English and with more vocabularies than I use to.
Why destroy a language with foul words?

"A person is known by the company he/she keeps". The word 'company' here denotes association to anything, including words and dictates a message. The message is read to reflect upon the person's behavioural patterns and to define an overall image. Personally, I see no harm in discussing the nature of vulgarity and obscene words without being directly offensive/defensive but do vision a problem in being consistent.

Can some1 tell me, are we may use such kind of words accordin to Quran?
