    Peace

That's not actually true, there are prophetesses in the Torah.

I mean when it lists the names like, Zacharia, Idris, Noah, etc. its always male names when its being repeated, unless Im mistaken. Again, does it call Mary or any other females Prophets or Messengers at all?

I can see what Yusha is saying, but again without the Quran stating whether its possible or not, Im just asking for opinions.

    Peace

EDIT Didnt see the Torah part, sorry. Who are prophetess' in the Torah?

You misunderstood what I mean. The story of the revelations to these great women is well known. However, the nature of their revelations were personal, for example the Angel telling Mary that she will conceive Jesus, etc. However, if you look at the nature of the revelations to the prophets, their revelations exhorted them to preach the message and convey divine laws to their people. These kind of revelation never descend on women.

      Ah. Got it.

I believe Christians would probably take issue with that though.

          I dont know arabic.

If you take a secular look at it, it seems like there hasn't been a female prophet because ancient society wouldn't accept it.

I'll see if there are any good translator on the internet.

"What sent before you but men We revealed to ask people mentioned that you do not know"

That was the only one I could get results from (Google Beta translator) it dosent seem to me that the verse implies only men.

I think you answered my question, thank you. So "Except Men" is the key words. Men are the only prophets then. If so, God knows best.

                  Peace

Is it possible to have a female prophet, a prophetess?

                    Good question.

Do people here consider some women have been Nabis or Rasools?

Why have they been only (or mainly) men?

I think it probably has a reason such as having the man as a the head of the household. Also the idea behind one man compared to two women for wills.

                      Peace

Do you think God made men to be naturally the head of the household?

Why do you need 2 women but only 1 man, for a will?

Depends how you define head of household. If its the provider, then yes. Men are naturally stronger to work fields and arent as emotional, in general, as women.

Women has their own roles such as taking care of the kids, thats natural instinct. They also are the ones responsible for bringing people into the earth.

Being head of household doesnt make the women less important, they just each have different roles to play. That doesnt mean that the women can't make the living, just that in general, its the mans role. Its like the idea of the percentages that go to the kin, wife, kids, etc. Theres a general percentage, but that can be overruled if the person chooses to do so.

For me, I could live with my wife making more income then me, it wouldnt damage my ego.

                          Peace

Women today also go out to work. In modern Britian, women work in fields just as much as men and due to technology, physical strength is no-longer a deciding factor on what work one does. Even if one considers them to have different roles - that shouldn't mean one is the head of the house hold should it?

Are these roles fixed by God?

Or are they just old cultural norms that can be challenged.

Times change, societies evolve - so should our idea of such roles. Don't you think?

Im talking about the old times when it was necessary.

Are the roles fixed by God? Maybe and maybe not. Perhaps due to the old ways of living, it ended up getting fixed. If we were back 300 years ago, should women work the fields or should the man? I believe its the mans duty to provide for his wife and family. Women have just started in The United States to actually make a living for themselves due to the industrial revolution. I think about around 100 years? Im not sure how it was in other countries.

Technology also brings problems with it. Due to the fact that there isnt much manual labour involved, we have a high count of obesity here in America. The easier life becomes, more problems end up coming as well.

Like I said, I myself could care less if my wife made more than me. She can be the head of the household if she wants and deserves the position. I just think that in general the male is the head of house.

That being said, it doesnt negate either sex. It doesnt mean that the man is worth more than the women. Again, its just roles that they play.

                              Peace

It was just my opinion on a pretty bad translation, dont sterotype me just because I voiced my own idea.

Yes, some people consider her so.

Also in the Bible, Debora is a prophetess.
