    Peace,

Its regarding 419. Some translations leave it at "Do not inherit/take women forcibly" while others add that it is property. Some even go on that it applies only to dead kinsmen wives. What is the correct translation of this ayatun?

    419
Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la yahillu lakum an tarithoo alnnisaa karhan wala taAAduloohunna litathhaboo bibaAAdi ma ataytumoohunna illa an ya/teena bifahishatin mubayyinatin waAAashiroohunna bialmaAAroofi fa-in karihtumoohunna faAAasa an takrahoo shay-an wayajAAala Allahu feehi khayran katheeran

Also if this isnt for women in general, is there any ayat that speaks of forcibly marrying women? I know that if we take the Quran into account, then of course we cant. But any specific ayat?

This is what I make of it.

419 O you who have believed you it is not lawful ... upon ... women difficulty ...

Not sure how accurate that was, but Im not sure on tarithoo, .

    Peace

419 O YOU who have attained to faith! It is not lawful for you to become heirs to your wives against their will; and neither shall you keep them under constraint with a view to taking away anything of what you may have given them, unless it be that they have become guilty, in an obvious man?ner, of immoral conduct. And consort with your wives in a goodly manner; for if you dislike them, it may well be that you dislike something which God might yet make a source of abundant good.

2231 When ye divorce women, and they fulfil the term of their ('Iddat), either take them back on equitable terms or set them free on equitable terms; but do not take them back to injure them, (or) to take undue advantage; if any one does that; He wrongs his own soul. Do not treat Allah's Signs as a jest, but solemnly rehearse Allah's favours on you, and the fact that He sent down to you the Book and Wisdom, for your instruction. And fear Allah, and know that Allah is well acquainted with all things.

Men are not to take advantage of women take their money, keep them against their will etc.

      Does that help?

        Salaam alaykum,

What I meant was specifically getting married. 419 Ive seen been interpreted in two different fashions. I know that AFTER marriage that the women is protected, but I meant prior to getting married. For example, what if her parents arrange her marriage and she doesnt want it? This can be supported with 419 as well, depending on how you look at it

419 O you who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit the women by force, nor that you become harsh with them to take away some of what you have given them, unless they commit a clear lewdness. And live with them in kindness. If you dislike them, then perhaps you may dislike something and God makes in it much good. If you dislike them, then perhaps you may dislike something and God makes in it much good.

I believe that women should be able to choose, just looking for Quranic reference.

        Peace

So the question is can parents force their daughters to marry someone they don't want?
Is there any evidence in the Quran that women can choose their life partner?

I'll get back to you on that one.

Is there anything in the quran that women can ride bicycles or drive cars?

Does it give permission to women to walk ahead of their husbands in the quran?

How many times a day should a woman prostrate to her husband, in the quran?

With the quran, you bring a disproof, not the other way round, sorry. The quran is a book of guidance.

              I agree completely with OPF.

Anyway, I just came across this

              2.232
When you divorce women and they fulfil the ther of the idda3, do not prevent them from marrying their husbands if they mutually agree on equitable terms.

In the religion of Islam women are only 50% human beings. Women are to give pleasure to men thats their only purpose of existence. Whether you believe it or not thats what religion of Muslims is.

We get guidance from what the quraan says and what it does not say as well. You only find verses regarding divorced/widowed women, who are more vulnerable, regarding your question. The quraan orders men not to take advantage of these vulnerable people. Do you need it to tell you that "and of course you can't take advantage of women who are not vulnerable, and who maybe even stronger than some men"? Does it tell us not to force men to get married? Why, then, women? What's about women's rights that's different from men's rights ?

Several, such as a witness. In the sight of Allah they are the same, but at the same time they are both different. Many Muslims, even Sunni Imams, want to sugar coat this issue. Its the same with beheading people in war, they want to sugar coat it or outright deny it so that it fits with the Western ideals. Men and women are physically different, and its not just the sexual parts. Hormones, etc., therefore its a big difference. Men have advantages over women in some aspects, and women over men in others.

                    Peace

"Equal rights" isn't the same as "equitable rights". People have been pounded into belief that "fair rights" which is the end, not the means, can only be achieved through "equal rights". Looking at America, "equal rights" is far from working. But maybe that's just America.

                        SALAM sun

421 And how could ye take it when ye have gone in unto each other, and they have Taken from you a solemn covenant?

if a marriage is a meethaq (agreement/contract/coventant) then it's not one sided. So certainly the woman and the man have to agree on the marriage.

If parents interfere then they must be respected because they are parents. But if the parents are non-believers or idol-worshippers then people have the right to NOT listen to them (prophet Ibraheem's example).

Nothing is by force. God says that marriage is mawadda and rahma (affection and mercy) between the man and the woman. So if that is not there then it wouldn't be a good marriage as defined by God.

                        Hope that helps.
