Hi, shalom, Asslamualaikum, and whatever other discourse you follow for informal greetings ,
i'm a newbie. and let me say, this forum seems to encompass everything i want to discuss! i first thought that being a Muslim and striving to be an intellectual could be contradictory goals....this place seems to help provide an argument against such a narrative O0
so yea I'm a Muslim I would say, but not one that is regularly portrayed in the media (western based).
some stuff about myself im a 23 year old, born in Pakistan, but raised in Oklahoma (where i grew up), living in Illinois right now. doing grad school in history (with a focus on American diplomacy and US foreign policy), and I also serve in the US Army )
so far this place again, sounds awesome!

Welcome chesthair welcome
The Quran is very intelligent, its Hadith Doctrine that dumbs the whole Religion down.
Thats very interesting that you are serving in the Army, how do your fellow soldiers treat you considering you are a Muslim and US is at War with Iraq?
Best wishes with grad school, it can be pretty tough (graduated last year).
Peace

Alhmm, interesting perspective )

Peace, well if you tell them you're muslim, they'll inevitably put you in the same basket as hadith followers. Non muslims do not really understand what quran alone.
ehhh
I understand there are muslims that assert the only source of law is the quran and not the other sources like tradition, hadiths, I don't think I am the only one in the world, and I don't think either it is complicated to understand.peace

i don't think any of them know the term "hadith", or what that implies.
so what would you guys say would be the average age of those that are on this forum?
