    Salam,

I have both Sunni and Shia family and I'm the only Quranic person I know ok.

I know many people who love to follow hadith from Prophet or Prophet's family. They may quote verses like
3132 And obey Allah and the Messenger. that ye may obtain mercy.

Therefore, they simply come to the conclusion that we must follow the Prophet (his hadith or his family etc.) ... that's IF it is genuinly from him/them.

So I considered it seriously for the sake of understanding the logic of it and I thought in that case the Prophet's role would have been to set an example for us to copy or follow? As you know some people believe in copying/following ok?

    sun

BUT ... Allah says again and again in the Quran that the Messenger's duty was only a bearer of good news (for believers) and a warner (for non believers). Read the verses yourself

17105 We sent down the (Qur'an) in Truth, and in Truth has it descended and We sent thee but to give Glad Tidings and to warn (sinners).

2556 But thee We only sent to give glad tidings and admonition.

3345 O Prophet! Truly We have sent thee as a Witness, a Bearer of Glad Tidings, and Warner,-

488 We have truly sent thee as a witness, as a bringer of Glad Tidings, and as a Warner

The duty of the Prophet clearly stated above. Read it carefully.

    Ok.

    As for examples to follow

1789 And We have explained to man, in this Qur'an, every kind of similitude yet the greater part of men refuse (to receive it) except with ingratitude!

1854 We have explained in detail in this Qur'an, for the benefit of mankind, every kind of similitude but man is, in most things, contentious.

3058 verily We have propounded for men, in this Qur'an every kind of Parable But if thou bring to them any Sign, the Unbelievers are sure to say, "Ye do nothing but talk vanities."

3927 We have put forth for men, in this Qur'an every kind of Parable, in order that they may receive admonition.

So if THE Quran itself says that in this QURAN is EVERY example (I repeat EVERY example) then an example to follow through hadith (copying / following Prophet or family or anyone at all) is not being Muslim at all is it?

    Does anyone follow the logic?

I'm not saying it's evil to copy/follow Prophet or Prophet's family or a Shiekh/Sayyed etc. Peace and blessings upon them. I'm saying it goes against the logic of what's in the Quran as a complete book (unless you feel the Quran is incomplete then that's a different story).

Please comment on how sectarians feel about this? because at the end of the day if they are still sectarian then obviously they don't believe the Quran is complete at all.

I hope the logic above was clear enough to understand and feel free to comment and give me sectarians' views because I'm interested to learn more.

    PEACE.

    peace

Oh, by the way people ... the above means that through the Quran if you have accepted the Prophet's warnings (if you are/were a non-believer) and his bearings of good news (for the believers) then YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE PROPHET.

Many people wanted to know what it means to follow the Prophet. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS.

332 Say "Obey Allah and His Messenger. But if they turn back, Allah loveth not those who reject Faith.

      cheers.

      peace

        Allah also says

"Indeed, there is for you a good example in Ibrahim and those with him when they said to their people..." Chapter 60 verse 4

Going by hadithists logic we should look for an external source/book that shows examples of what Ibrahim did. But they fail to realise that the examples are actually ACCURATELY portrayed WITHIN the Quran and the same thing applies to the Prophet Muhammed being a good example to follow too.

        PEACE

          Dear Notts,

That's a beautiful verse, thanks for that. It reasserts the fact that we should be strong enough to reject what others do and worship God alone.

604 Indeed, you have had a good example in Abraham and those who followed him, when they said unto their people "Verily, we are quit of you and of all that you worship instead of God we deny the truth of whatever you believe; and between us and you there has arisen enmity and hatred, to last until such a time as you come to believe in the One God!" The only exception was Abraham's saying to his father "I shall indeed pray for forgiveness for thee, although I have it not in my power to obtain anything from God in thy behalf." "O our Sustainer! In Thee have we placed our trust, and unto Thee do we turn for unto Thee is all journeys' end.

So if Prophet/father Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is the example to take as per Quran, then of course prayers and worship are for God alone (as Prophet Ibrahim did) without mentioning Mohammed or Mohammed's family's names as if they're beside God.

I have truly and honestly failed to see the logic in any sectarian form of worship. Because

A long time ago when I prayed and mentioned Mohammed or Mohammed's family's names in prayer, I felt as if I was addressing God and there is the Prophet or the Prophet and his family with Him - eventually it was like I was addressing 2 or more people or a whole group and indirectly setting up partners next to God. I felt like something was wrong and I felt sick about it. I even tried to think of God alone without Angel Gabriel or other angels next to Him or anything and it was a challenging task mentally. Satan is smart but that doesn't mean he's strong.

So I got through it alhamdu lillah. In my desparation at the time I asked God to help me and I somehow started researching until I found God Alone and now have no more frustration or doubt or sadness. Alhamdu lillah.

I see the situations I've been in as a blessing.

              Salam,

Thank you sis Haneen. Great article. God bless whoever wrote it too.

There is something else I wish to understand a bit more so that I can reply if I get asked about my beliefs (I wouldn't dare ask the people around me so they don't get offended).

What's with Shia people copying a Sayyed (supposedly descendents of the Prophets)?

Is there anything in the Quran that says descendents of the Prophets are holy at all?

Because the way I see it "tilka ummatun qad khalat" (that is a community that finished/passed away).

              Quran says

2141 That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case

2134 That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case!

So can anyone clarify what the deal is there?

              thanks. peace
