    Peace

Ive been reading diffrerent translations on this ayat and some of them mention that David slaughtered the horses because he forgot the prayer? How did they come to this conclusion?

    32
Faqala innee ahbabtu hubba alkhayri AAan thikri rabbee hatta tawarat bialhijabi
    33
Ruddooha AAalayya fatafiqa mashan bialssooqi waal-aAAnaqia

I went to Project Root List and got this

    744 Miim-Siin-ha

to wipe/rub/stroke, passing one's hand over something, chosen/anointed, messiah

It also makes sense because of the mosih/moshiach?

    Peace

      QXP

3831 In the evenings he used to examine his cavalry of nicely-bred,
      swift-footed horses.

3832 He would say, Surely, I love my fondness of all that is good
because it reminds me of my Lord, as the horses raced away until hidden by the veil of distance.

3833 "Bring them back to me!" and he would lovingly stroke their legs
      and their necks.

3834 (That was Solomon and) We indeed tried him, and set upon his
throne a mere body, and thereupon he turned to Us.

3835 Solomon prayed, "O My Lord! Absolve my imperfections and
bestow upon me the gift of a kingdom that may not suit anyone
(incompetent) after me. Surely, You are the Giver of Gifts.

        Peace Arnold,

Thanks for the translation. Any idea why the some translators would translate it as slaughter? Does it fit some sort of purpose? So basically, what this is saying, is that the horses remind him of God, therefore he is glad to have them? Thanks!

        Peace

          Salaam amuslim,

The Quran commentators used Jewish scriptures and Torah-explanations to explain the stories of Solomon, Moses and so on. With Jesus they used Christian scriptures. Thus many Quran translations and understandings have become completely distorted and many times just a repitition of Jewish and Christian thought.

And yes, the horses reminded him of the honour God had given him. In the first verses of Surah 27 he says his people was taught the Mantiq of Tair. Mantiq means knowledge, Tair means also fast horses in classic Arabic, so he isn't talking about knowing the language of birds, he is talking about the knowledge how to train warhorses, which is again reflected in the above story.
