So they have meanings, but they do not have a creed that you can pin on them and are meaningless in that sense, just as one cannot assign a set creed to "Muslim" and be honest in claiming it is sanctioned by God.

i am on another site these days, muxlim. it's like a muslim myspace. i find the brothers and sisters there to be patient, sympathetic, well-mannered, and encouraging of one another, even in disagreement. they say "brother" and "sister", even if disagreeing or debating. we should be more like this, for the sake of God and for one another.
And serve God and do not set up anything with Him, and be kind to the parents, and the relatives, and the needy, and the neighbor who is of kin, and the neighbor next door, and the friend far away, and the traveler, and those committed to you by oath. God does not like the arrogant, the boastful. 436

I completely agree Ayani, some people come here having the attitude "it's my way or the high way!" and dont want to give other people a chance to build on their ideas and truth seeking. And they try to dominate the forum by repeating their views again and again with long posts.
I dont remember ever offending anyone, except one guy a long time ago who was promoting atheism. voodoo

hey, if someone comes on an Islamic site promoting atheism... one has a right to argue with him and let him know what is true. i agree peace, we should see more patience and kind / tactful arguing here. we are all looking for truth and guidance.
realistically, think about it- this is the internet. we have the chance to edit our comments and think about what we post before we hit the button. and about the two sects...
if we are truly following the Quran's advice, we should remember God above all else, pray, and seek understanding. i have had some wonderful conversations with Sunni Muslims, and frienships with them, too. the Quran asks us to prostrate, bow, kneel, and remember God in the morninga nd evening and throughout the day. is that so hard?

Seems that in many threads like this one, two thirds of the text is made up of irony, disguised insluts, arrogance... things that leads no-where, or at least not to any betterment. Maybe one third could be seen as constructive topic related... but too much is just bull****. People talk past eachother, don't want to understand eachother and makes no effort to further the topic... it is all too common to see people who are just out on a ego-trip. Sad.I suggest to all that when you sense that you have come across someone who is not communicating sincerely(positively, humbly) and shows no manners, just ignore the person! Once it's clear that it won't lead anywhere, leave it. One can sense it rather quickly, it just takes 2-3 replies to be certain.
Let there be peace, and try not to be like unreasoanble children - all of us.

Very good point. I think it is in our nature to divide ourselves. my point is rather than finding mistakes in other people and critisizing there views we should just be concerned with ourselves. as it is stated in the quran. nobody is responsible for other mans deeds. therefore, my suggestion would be to let go and stop proving each other wrong. hear the other persons view, if you disagree give him yours and that the extent it should go to. why waste time on proving each other wrong.

Indeed. I can't see that the fact that people are not in agreement in everything or in many things is a tragedy or something necessarily negative. At any rate, it is the way it is, and therefore we have to accept it and live with it. Trying to impose tht because there is a difference there is a barrier or an incompatibility is nonsense. Sometimes there may be, but mostly people, when it is needed and there is the will can come to some arrangement. But one would say that the temptation to take everything the tragic way arranges the few really evil people.

these points are ones that I believe, and you can read them in many books*we should celebrate variety, it gives color to life. The mere existance of differences makes it possible to grow! A uniform, stale and un-changing system is dead.
- People who can't stand that others have different points of view or that they are different, they really have no love for themselves, and if they can't love themselves, they will never be able to love anyone else. Love for self is connected to tolerance, lack of love for self is connected to racism, sectarianism, us-and-them thinking.
*we must start by changing ourselves, it never works to try to change others... it must be inside-out
So, personally, it is possible to see this forum as divided into two camps, but I don't think this gives a picture even close to reality. I feel that there are as many camps here as there are people visiting this forum... we may share certain opinions with some people, while disagreeing on other issues... so we should not be afraid that any camps are established... we should just try to keep discussing in a proper and constructive manner with everyone... and feel that we are all here to learn and share ideas. No-one is totally right, and no-one is totally wrong, so everyone can learn something from anyone.
We just have to kill our egos and be humble about it. We should race towards righteousness, in deed and thought, and we should strive hard to improve ourselves, so that we can help others who want help. We should set our minds to see all the positive things, the goodness and love, and not focus on negative things, 'coz that's just useless, doesn't improve anything.And by the way, if you stretch it, you can even interpret 'quran followers' as a label of division... making us separate from others. Ok, we may take the quran as God's revelation, but we are not following the quran!! We are following habits and practices of a good nature, and all good comes from God. The point is not in what book, or wherever, you get your divine revelations from. The point is that what you follow is good. Everyone should lead by being a good example, not by telling people to follow such and such book, adopting such and such label. Do follow the quran, but the beauty in the message is not that it comes from a book called quran, but the beauty is in what the prescribed practices bring forth. No need for names, just practised goodness. Action is all that matters.

We must not follow sunnis nor shias, we must unite. If this is the subject of a potential war, God forbid, code 19 or any other thing, let's sit down at the round table like normal human beings and talk about it. Let's present are cases and prove this or that.Truth is acceptable only to a true believer.
Only a real Muslim accepts the truth.
Sunnis like to follow sheiks and imams.

I guess for people who reflect, maybe this is God sign... He wanted to show us who is arrogant and who reflects... Let's all learn from it, and let's try not to become like them. Remember, one who had the knowledge were also tested <i think it is a big faith test &>. So some who become astray or too obsessed in seeking and upholding it may not realize it and may become lost forever. May God forgive us for our sins.

The truth is not even two persons can have exactly the same opinion over everything. So disagreement is completely healthy. The most important thing is that unlike the Shiahs and the Sunnists, we do not call those who disagree with us as kafir or unbelievers who deserve to die.
