How do you know which verse was sent done that is better then another? Naskh?

Do you use a Quran that has the verses placed in chronological order?

    Thanks!

Why should an aya be better than another?

There is only a Qur'an in use and the verses are in the order in which God revealed they should be.

      Salaam

The verses aren't in the order that Mohammad heard them.

And when We put a revelation in place of (another) revelation, - and Allah knoweth best what He revealeth - they say Lo! thou art but inventing. Most of them know not.

          hey pvb~

i personally do not believe in that idea of Quranic abrogation. one verse is not better than another, imo. a verse may speak more clearly to what we experience and need to hear then, but the verses form the entirety of the text and message. that is how i understand it, at least. and Allah knows best.

You do realise that it can also mean signs, not simply 'revelations'?

That is too ambiguous to use as 'revelation'.

              Thanks!

I've never seen such a Qur'an. However, my experience reading the book is that I couldn't make any sense of it in the order it is presented.

I still don't know where the ''chronological order'' comes from, i.e. this

Order Sura Order Sura Order Sura Order Sura Order Sura Order Sura Order Sura

I hope this one has been replaced by a better one!!

Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.

I believe that GOD is a better judge then I of what is in a person's heart. GOD and GOD along should judge.

You list the obviously bad. Many who commit atrocities say they believe in a GOD, yet there are atheist that are very good people.

This verse is meaning just those that don't believe- correct? They aren't mentioned as doing wrongs.

There's no such thing as Quran's verses being 'aborgated'

"None of AYAT do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?"

According to 2106 quoted above, some people believe that some of the AYAT of Quran are abrogated. There is not a single AYAT of Quran that is abrogated. What is abrogated and is referred to in 2106 are the past scriptures or revelations, revealed to the prophets who came before Muhammad . Please consider the following points for proof

                        1. Context of 2106

Please see a verse before 2106

                        002.105

It is never the wish of those without Faith among the People of the Book, nor of the Pagans, that anything good should come down to you from your Lord. But Allah will choose for His special Mercy whom He will - for Allah is Lord of grace abounding.

                        1. What was abrogated?

                        Please see the following verse

"Never sent We a messenger or a prophet before thee but when He recited (the message) Satan proposed (opposition) in respect of that which he recited thereof. But Allah abrogates that which Satan proposeth. Then Allah establisheth His revelations. Allah is Knower, Wise;"

2252 given above clearly indicates what happened with the previous scriptures. That Satan caused adultration in them and Allah abrogated that which Satan proposed. The same Arabic word NASAKH has been used in 2252 that has been used in 2106.

                        1. The word AYAT

The word AYAT that is used in 2106 does not mean the AYAT of Quran. Allah has used the same word AYAT for what was revealed to the previous prophets.

Although there are many references in Quran, I shall give just a couple of references of AYAT which were revealed to MUSA.

                        010.075
Then, after them, We sent Moses and Aaron unto Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our AYAT, but they were arrogant and were a guilty folk.

                        014.005
We verily sent Moses with Our AYAT, saying Bring thy people forth from darkness unto light. And remind them of the days of Allah. Lo! therein are revelations for each steadfast, thankful (heart).

                        1. The entire Quran is FARADH

                        Please see Arabic of 2885

"Most surely He Who has made the Quran binding on you will bring you back to the destination. Say My Lord knows best him who has brought the guidance and him who is in manifest error. "

In 2885, when Allah says, Al-Quran is FARADH, He does not make any exception of any verse which is not FARADH.

                        http//www.quranicteachings.co.uk/abrogation.htm

This is the trouble you get into when you start translating ayat as 'revelations'. Ayat is signs. Whether it's signs in nature or sign in a particular reading (in this instance Al Quran).

They question thee about strong drink and games of chance. Say In both is great sin, and (some) utility for men; but the sin of them is greater than their usefulness. And they ask thee what they ought to spend. Say that which is superfluous. Thus Allah maketh plain to you (His) revelations, that haply ye may reflect.

O ye who believe! Strong drink and games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan?s handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed.

And of the fruits of the date-palm, and grapes, whence ye derive strong drink and (also) good nourishment. Lo! therein is indeed a portent for people who have sense.

None of those are abrogated. The meaning is simple - alcohol is both good and bad but more bad than good. As for 'satan' (temptation? distraction?) I would take issue with that concept but in any case, there is no contradiction or abrogation.

to clarify a small point, 590 is often mistranslated as far as I'm aware, so it should read

O ye who believe! Strong drink and games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan?s handiwork. Leave him (satan) aside in order that ye may succeed.

Isn't alcohol not allowed in Islam? Then what about the good? "good nourishment"

If something is both good and bad shouldn't it be a personal choice?

                                  pvb,

I recommend using the search function, this topic (like most questions asked on the forum) have been discussed before and in significant detail. Unless you have an agenda as to why you ask questions you already know the answer to.

If you answer you do not know the answer and it is a genuine question, then you clearly did not understand the verses you quoted and/or do not wish to use the search function.

A man has heart disease and told by MD to drink a glass of red wine each night. In Islamic country this wouldn't be allowed, or would it?

A man has heart disease and told by MD to drink a glass of red wine each night. In Islamic country this wouldn't be allowed, or would it?

If the doctor read his journals he would find that it (antioxidants) can also be found in grapes and the effect has absolutely nothing to do with ethanol itself.

Isn't alcohol not allowed in Islam? Then what about the good? "good nourishment"

If something is both good and bad shouldn't it be a personal choice?

                                        Hi
Human mind is pretty wise to decide what is beneficial or harmful to the body.Let the decision be from human mind not from imaginary commandments.

                                          From your link

"Several alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages have been investigated with regard to their possible effects on the body antioxidant system. It has been reported that red wine is more active as an antioxidant than either white wine or grape juice, and that ethyl alcohol fails to show any protective effect in this regard, suggesting that the antioxidant activity of the red wine does not arise from its alcohol content."

So you are saying to use a non-alcoholic red wine?
