As a Muslim I am continuously confused over how many people do such irrational things. Take the beard growing for example - all on the basis that Muhammad had a beard? sorry to sound blasphemous, but if he had pink frilly curtains in his kitchen, would that mean that all Muslims must have pink frilly curtains in their kitchen? how about if someone asked him for advice on what colour to paint his house - should his interior decorating skills be considered part and parcel with religious doctrine?
I mean sure, look through the Hadiths, some of the sayings are very good, but some of them are completely redundant, and yet, there are people who go on as if to say we basically have to be Muhammad clones.
Another point is the number of people who try to make out that Muhammad was infallible - when there is even evidence within the Quran that he was fully human, subject to the same faults we all are. Due to the fallibility of the prophet (due to his non-infallibility) aren't were therefore in good commonsense to evaluate things before using it as jutification?

Your topic isn't risk'e on this forum. I believe most of us reject Hadith as sources of Divine guidance.
Well, I was signed up to a forum once (for gay and lesbian muslims) and banned because I dared to ask such a question (along with daring to say that we should treat Jews and brothers, and work together towards peace in the middle east - oh the horror!); I was given the cyber equivalent of being 'run out of town' - hence I was kinda hesitant of making such a statement under the impression the same thing would occur to me.

In an Indonesian forum I was ridiculed by some Indonesian Muslims because they were debating whether or not wearing a clothing that is longer than the ankle will get someone into hell and I said they shouldnt focus on such trivial thing because it seriously makes no sense that God would put a soul into a fire just because he wears too long an outfit. DUH!

Goodness gracious me; reminds me of what Christ Rock said in regards to eating right and getting into heaven, 'hey, I killed 12 people, but I ate right!"
Its funny how we're told that Muslims respect Jesus, and yet ignore every single one of his teachings in regards to the superficiality of such things as how long or how fashionable a piece of clothing is.

I do not like those that say you must grow a beard in order to be recognized by God on the day of jugment as a muslim (it means God will juge based on the look of people? alongside of their deeds), i hate even more those that say be clean shaved every day to be presentable, i mean beard is natural, a short bearb is fine.
I dislike having my skin clear shaved and i dislike having a long bearb.

But in the end, it doesn't matter; do what ever floats your boat. If you want to grow the biggest, largest, bushiest beard in the world - then go ahead, grow it - I'm certainly not going to stand in your way D People have this idea that the whole of the Muslim community should be one big giant homogenous blob of people. We're all different, lets celebrate these differences than trying to ram everyone into a box.

The hadeeth are littered with looks over deeds. Just say this arabic phrase at least 42,000 times a day and you will get a season ticket to heaven.
