      who compiled the quran?
and what do we know about real islamic history?

      Peace,
      Respectfully.

I don't know who compiled the Quran, God knows best.
My guess would be that the Quran was compiled by prophet Muhammad's friends, those who were with him all the time. Then it was written and re-written just like today, when the Quran (i'm talking about the Book as such) starts to fall apart, when the pages fall out, it gets torn and similar stuff, we simply make another copy.
      Copies.

      Islamic history.
Well, we can start with Adam.
he lived with his wife in Paradise, made a mistake by listening to satan, forgot and ate the fruit with his wife, was sent on Earth and had kids with his wife.
The two sons. One killed another and look at us now.

God tells us pieces of information about Islamic history in the Quran, story of prophets Noah, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa, Muhammad, Yunus, Shuaib, Yusuf, Mary, all the people and prophets in between, God tells us these stories so that we can take a lesson from them - act like Firaun and you will go to Hell, act like prophet Musa and you will go to Paradise.

Islam was growing fast, faster then now, at the time of prophet Muhammad. Why? People were accepting Islam because they saw prophet Muhammad and those around him. Masses of people would accept islam, who wouldn't when you see a prophet not engaging in wars and arguments but spreading peace and love.

Today, fathers in Pakistan and Afghanistan are seeking men in the USA, UK and Canada to marry their daugthers or worse - people in those two countries go to UK, marry a girl, she accepts his version of Islam and when she comes to Pakistan, she feels like Neo.

Islamic history is written well from the time of prophet Nuh. He was told not to engage in an argument but rather build a ship and leave. He did advize his son to get on board, to get saved, but humans have that - stubbornes.
Prophet Ibrahim - he only asked his dad why is he worshipping stones and his dad wanted to stone him right there and then. Prophet Ibrahim said peace and went away. When they wanted to burn him, God saved him.
Prophet Musa brought the proofs to Pharaoh but this guy was even worse, like Taliban or something.
Prophet Jesus was a proof himself. Nope, they still wanted to kill and oppress.
Prophet Muhammad received a threat from God. He was told not to say anything else but the Quran, otherwise, God would have killed him.

      When will we learn?

As you can see, prophets were always told not to engage in a fight, argument, war but to kill only when you are defending yourself, because you gotta set the limits somewhere. And if they talk, that they speak nicely and invite people to Islam. Today - palestinians are killing Jews because they believe differently. Instead, they should sit down and say"Okay, why do you think i'm going to Hell, why don't you accept Quran because the Quran confirms your Torah?"

I only spoke to my roommate about how Mary did not give birth to a god nor to a son of god and that God does not have a son and at the moment, her belief system (Christian orthodox) is falling apart. Why? It doesn't matter, what matters is this i have accomplished to destroy the lie (Trinity, crucifixion and all that) with a few questions.

Palestinians can't make peace with guns even though they have been trying for the past 40 years ....

      Peace.

        Who cares?

What do you mean islamic history?

Noah was muslim too, where are you gonna get his info? There's not even evidence that they were real people, let's start with that.

To me all history is hadeeth. Let's not exchange one hadeeth for another.

          me.

i have a burning desire to find out who "changed islam" and why.

history of muhammad and what happened afterwards.

if i was interested i could check archialogical studies. but i'm more interested in the post-muhammed era.

          good point.

if we don't learn history then we can't understand the present, and we'll only repeat past mistakes because we never learnt from them.

Alen your views are too orthodox for my liking.

          peace.

I think the answears to all your questions and the reasons for why islam got changed, and who that changed it, is all written in the books i'm going to talk about below.

Have you read "Rethinking tradition in modern islamic thought by Daniel brown"?

If you have not read it, i totally recommend it. Its about the history of islam, about who changed it, and why. It also tells us about the different scholars living at the time after prophet muhammeds death, and that some of the scholars only followed the Quran only (not hadith). If you have not read it, you can first read the summary of it at free-minds. The summary of the book is written by Wakas

            http//www.free-minds.org/articles/hadith/rethink.htm

I also know about another book that has the answears your looking for. The name of the book is
ISLAM THE TRUE HISTORY AND FALSE BELIEFS

The book is written by Dr.Shabbir and can be bought at his site, our downloaded from this link

            http//www.ourbeacon.com/?page_id=11605

            Peace,
            David

              Peace Angel,

Another book which may be helpful to you is written by my dear friend Dr. Douglas Brown. It is called

"Hislam Corrupt Religion And the Search for Spiritual Peace" and can be found at Amazon.com

              http//www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/002-6435524-3664819?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=hislam&x=11&y=16

His other book... "Self-Knowledge and Spiritual Yearning The Role of Spirituality in Psychological Health" is also a great read.

              http//www.amazon.com/Self-Knowledge-Spiritual-Yearning-Spirituality-Psychological/dp/0595437672/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205953895&sr=1-1

              Peace and Blessings,

              Bob

Islam has existed from the beginning of time. How can you ever find this out? Muhammad didn't bring a new 'religion' called Islam. See 4213, and 4143.

history of muhammad and what happened afterwards.

Which muhammad? How do you know which muhammad wrote the quran? You don't, and you can't know.

but i'm sure muhammed was real

How so? He may very well have been. Again, just because there are some hadeeth written about some guy named Muhammad, doesn't make it the same Muhammad the Quran talks of. To me the hadeeth stories were made up after they saw the guy's name in the quran. It's a giant leap to assume that its the same Muhammad!

if we don't learn history then we can't understand the present, and we'll only repeat past mistakes because we never learnt from them.

First, I am not saying to completely ignore history. I am sure something can be learned. We just have to take it as a pinch of salt.

Do you trust the 'history' of today? What will they write down in 'history' about 9/11, 7/7 etc..? We live in the technological age. Can you imagine back in the olden days how much they could manipulate 'history'. Remember winners write history. So it couldn't possibly be unbiased.

Archaeological evidence can only tell us what's un-earthed. What about the stuff that couldn't be un-earthed etc?

Have you seen what the american textbooks write about columbus? To them this is 'sahih' history. He's a bloody hero to them! A man responsible for millions and millions of deaths...

I do need to add, I am sure Muhammad wrote/compiled the quran himself.

Proclaim (or read) thou in the name of thy Lord Who created, Created man from a clot of blood. Proclaim! and thy Lord is the Most Bounteous; Who taught by the pen, Taught man what he knew not.{961-5]

In 25/5, it is mentioned that Muhammad is dictated by Allah day and night. You cannot "dictate" to an illiterate person. So Muhammad not only learned how to read and write but he wrote all the Quran with his own hands as is clear from 25/5.

And they say "Tales of the ancients, which he has got them written down and they are dictated before him morning and evening."
