I have a strong tendency to agree with the viewpoint expressed in the OP. Cognitive behavioural therapy is based on this mindset and it works! Generally our lives are dominate to the hilt by our inner desires. We are slaves to food, drugs, repressed emotions, all sorts. The winners of life are those who recognize that they are susceptible to these things, grab them by the horns and bring them out into the open where they can be scrutinised with objectivity.

Personality disorders and defects arise when one programs themselves negatively. For example, an avoidant will repeatedly tell themselves that they are worthless and useless and it slowly sinks in, over the years. The end result is a shell of a human being, worthless and useless because of their own conditioning. All addictive behaviours have a root in bad conditioning as well. Suppressed emotions, shame, etc; there is a mountain of evidence to suggest that gambling, alcoholi, sex and even drug addictions arise from this behaviour. With this in mind, how amazing is it that LSD-25, an agent that throws one into a dark room of introspection, locks the door and throws away the key until sanity is restored, is a more powerful tool for treating such behaviours than the 12-step process? Either way the worst is the schizoid condition and let it be assured that none of you want to get into that mindset

How consistent is this viewpoint though? Without even including the Quran in the picture, this technique works in LIFE! I recommend interested peeps look up "NLP" and so on (IIRC most people on here know about this). It's very very easy to take control of your own psyche, the only thing that's needed is an inner desire to actively change yourself. I wish I knew these things in childhood but it's better late than never. Some people rot in old age, still unaware of such a simple yet beautiful concept.

For me to realise this it took a tremendous kick in the rear from something which most will look down on. Much kudos to whoever (re?)introduced this concept to all, you are clearly miles ahead of everyone else in your journey. One thing engrained into my heart is that objectivity is the key to everything. If you lie to yourself, you will eventually end up believing the lies. And so another easily remedied "personality disorder" develops...

Woe to those who program but are heedless of thier programming!

          • think about it

Exactly so. I'm pleasantly surprised to find this thread because I've just come out of a hell of a rut, everything I learnt is perhaps summed up entirely in this thread. If this is "salat" then there is no way it can be summarised in a few words, the more the better. eat

            Salaam OPF

Good to see you back, sun its been sometime since we saw firecrackers here.

Take control of your psyche you mean "nafs" its not easy but certainly possible as long as first you are ready to look deep down into your nafs.

If you lie to yourself, you will eventually end up believing the lies. And so another easily remedied "personality disorder" develops...

Or if someone else lies repeatedly, you could end up believing that, for example; Coca Cola linked to happiness was the set off of such messages which are delivered to us in the form advertizments from all directions. AND since 9/11 no one has escaped words "Islamist/ Muslims terrorist" designed to make even a rational Muslim become insane, So refer to the Qur?an's teachings avoid contact with such a proponganda and as for subliminal messages detach yourself from corrupting influences seek help by reciting surah Fathia consciously in every salah, and programing the nafs is nicely summedup by God Within in the first post .

I seek God's refuge from the evils of sneaky whisperers (surah 114, a reminder that we are all prone to it).

            peace

                  Peace be upon you Mini,

Thanks for the kind words Glad you could accept the position I am presenting. Please feel free to continue the dialogue if there are any questions.

Regarding "God" and "Allah"..I use MANY terms to represent THAT which is above all names. In this reading(quran) it says that no matter what "name" you use, To God belongs the best names. Basically, I use God most because I am an english speaker and this is the universally accepted "name" in english. If I am speaking to a "sunni" or Shiite" I will use "Allah" so that I do not loose them in the dialogue. When I am with my friends who study Egyptain philosophy, I use "Neter"....etc etc. If Allah helps you to get closer, then by all means use that, but dont get caught up in right and wrong names, it is a waste of your precious time on earth.

I've always though that to improve moral is really important and at times i tried to link it to salat and zakat. About 2 weeks now i've focused my salat on a list of moral things which i lack and bad morals which i'm trying to get rid of and it is so obvious that things are better. My remembrance of God has also bettered and improved.

Previously i thought that salat was just the remembrance of God. But now i focus on moral but at the same time try to reflect on God as to decide on what i have done wrong and what good attributes i lack which could assist me in adding to the good deeds i try to accomplish in my lifetime given. You could say it's my attempt to magnify God during the salat as this helps to seek out good moral attributes as well as spot bad attributes i have.

Isnt it rewarding to see the effects that God says we should see?? Real Change!

I am curious regarding your findings on the salat. I am currently studying it in conjunction with zakat. This study has been prompted by my study of hajj. My conclusions on hajj could not be finalised without investigating salat & zakat. I noticed that you have applied the meaning of salaat = programming/conditioning in the verses. Have you considered the context of the occurrences of salat in these verses? Have you successfully applied your understanding of salat to a community as well as the individual?

I look forward to your thoughts.

if i may focus on this particular verse, i'd like to know more about this raising of the voice or lowering it... in what way is that meant?
'cause when i talk to God i usually do it in my head, i don't know if my voice is loud or low.

Say Call upon Allah or call upon, the Beneficent God; whichever you call upon, He has the best names; and do not utter your prayer with a very raised voice nor be silent with regard to it, and seek a way between these.

                                      Peace be upon you 1celostnowfound,

I am curious regarding your findings on the salat. I am currently studying it in conjunction with zakat.

Salaat is programming of the subconcious(that which controls your LIFE!)...our goal in programming is to purify(zakaat) it

                                      919-10

He who purifies it(the nafs/subconcious) suceeds and he who corrupts it fails.

This study has been prompted by my study of hajj. My conclusions on hajj could not be finalised without investigating salat & zakat.

My understanding of hajj is "debate", not arguing(jadala), but debate, or reasoning....basically what we are all doing here o)

I noticed that you have applied the meaning of salaat = programming/conditioning in the verses. Have you considered the context of the occurrences of salat in these verses?

Yes, if you see a verse that does not fit with you please share it with me and we can discuss it.

Have you successfully applied your understanding of salat to a community as well as the individual?

programming of the subconcious is done by putting your mind in the state of meditation, which s the state between awake(day) and sleep(night, hence the reason salaat is timed at dawn and dusk, times of the merging of day and night. This can be done individually or in a group with a leader who "seeds" the group while in meditation state with the correct "truths". It is not far from what is done in many "churches" and other holy places where a message is "preached", just that the message must be correct, and the meditation state must be acheived for it to stick.

One thing to mention, we go in and out of meditation state several times a day unknowingly. So woe to those who "salaat" are heedless of thier salaat (been a while, i think thats how the verse is stated)

Look foward to hearing from you if you are still around, I havent posted in quite a while
