Today if world thinks Islam treats women in very unfair way it is because we follow hadiths rather than Qur'an as far as women are concerned. In pre-Islamic period women had lowest of low social status and Qur'an lifted them far above and our 'Ulama never tire of saying this. But within few decades of the revelation of the Qur'an women came down to their pre-Islamic status in a fiercely male dominated society. And this was accomplished through ahadith as a legitimizing factor.
Those who narrated these ahadith never thought for a moment how they contradict Qur'an as these ahadith served the social purpose very well.And many more articles.

My main concern with it would be it's generalisation about western culture
Against the background of all the debates about Islamic fundamentalism and Arab terrorism, one powerful paradox of the twentieth century may be overlooked. While Islam may indeed generate more political violence than does Western culture, Western culture in turn generates more deviant street violence than does Islam. Islam does indeed produce a disproportionate of number of violent Mujahiddeens; Western culture produces a disproportionate number of violent muggers.
In terms of quality of life for the average citizen, is there a trade-off between the excesses of the Islamic state and the excesses of the liberal state? Let us look at the dilemmas more closely. The crisis of the Western liberal state is still one where citizens are safer from their governments than ever before but less and less safe from fellow citizens. The quality of life is becoming increasingly violent in the West. It is less politically frightful than in parts of the Muslim world, but the direction of social change is towards increasing social conflict.
Whilst it is true that there is a lot less crime in Muslim countries during peacetime than western countries during peace time, it is not true that violent crime constantly increases in the west. It increased a lot between the 1960s and 1980s. It has fallen a lot since the 1980s. Fatal knife stabbings in Britain today are overwhelmingly black Somali immigrants killing each other. Otherwise most violent crime is drug/gang related, and rises/falls with the effectiveness of government policy to tackle drug abuse. There are also the powerfully argued studies by Steven Levitt that falls in crime since the 1980s are the result of increased abortion and birth control during the late 60s and 70s.
