Question for non muslim
-
Hi,
Hoping someone can answer my question. My boyfriend is muslim, (I'm non muslim) and sometimes he can be verbally abusive. I've asked him to stop swearing at me, calling me names etc. I told him it was very un-Islamic behaviour and he told me it didn't matter because 1.I'm not muslim
2.Islam was none of my buisness
3.Only muslims can discuss Islam
4.Muslimas do not discuss Islam with Muslims. Can you please advice if this is true?
-
Im not a muslim, I can say with absolute certainty that none of those are true.

I do not want to offend your boyfriend. But he is a hypocrite. He has a duty as a muslim to show you the Qur'an or at least give you the means to read for yourself. He is trying to lead you astray. Read the Qur'an and see what is the definition of a muslim for yourself.
Peace.

Peace to all.
Dear Charlie, your boyfriend is either a muslim who is struggling with his faith or he is not a muslim. I really dont care if someone calls themselves a muslim or not, the proof is in their behavior and deeds. You sound more like a muslim than he does sister. God has put Islam in all of our souls, and the closer we come to live according to this the better we are, regardless of what we call ourselves or think of others, I believe a non believer who struggles with themselves to be good and kind is closer to Islam than a supposed believer who is bad and sinfull without remorse or regret. Your soul knows the truth and that is all you have to follow, wherever it leads you sister, just try to be honest and sincere to your inner voice, that is God talking to you. I have seen people drunk with delusion that felt they were the only ones on the true path (christians, etc,) and I have seen so called muslims commit the greatest of all sins against God, we all think we are right and that everyone else is wrong, when we believe this then usually we are wrong. Only when we have found this for ourselves will we discover the true path, which I believe is Islam,, because there is only one God, and this God loves us and wants us to succeed, and he has sent us his guidance, and it is the Quran,,, if you can find him some other way sister then so be it, God is in a grain of sand if you really look hard enough. Good luck and Gods guidance to you sister.

Respectfully.Tell him this
How will non-Muslims accept Islam if they do not tlak about it with Muslims.
If Islam is not any of your business, then why are we told in the Quran to offer non Muslims Islam?
There are several verses in the Quran which i will quote later on.Can you please tell him this
"Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians -- whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord. And there will be no fear for them, nor shall they grieve" (262, 569, and many other verses).
"...and nearest among them in love to the believers will you find those who say, 'We are Christians,' because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant" (582).
"O you who believe! Be helpers of God -- as Jesus the son of Mary said to the Disciples, 'Who will be my helpers in (the work of) God?' Said the disciples, 'We are God's helpers!' Then a portion of the Children of Israel believed, and a portion disbelieved.
But We gave power to those who believed, against their enemies, and they became the ones that prevailed" (6114)."If only they had stood fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course, but many of them follow a course that is evil" (566).
Glory be to our God.

Peace sister and welcome to the forum. First I'd like to note this verbal abuse is unacceptable, muslim or non-muslim. Second, your boyfriend's theory on "why this doesn't matter" may be a cheap excuse. It's possible he's trying to avoid confrontation about his behavior. Have you noticed that some people get very defensive when you point out bad behavior? Maybe he doesn't want you to bring God into this because it makes him feel guilty, therefore he's throwing out these ridiculous comments.
Btw, even if it's coming from an extreme hadith follower... # 4 is really whacked.

Thanks Soof,
I've been looking at a number of different sites on Islam and I came across this one which for me personally makes the most sense/logic. I've tried reading the Qur'an and I've had a look at the Hadith's which I did find contradicting to the Qur'an. I was horrified at some of the content of the Hadiths which made no sense or was just plain silly, such as the ones that imply that women are inferior and unequal (compared to the Qur'an which empathises equality). I'd figured that maybe some of these Hadiths had developed over time due to political or economic reasons. Anyway I'm thankful that I found this site as its answered a lot of questions for me.

yea he sounds like an a$$hole.
tell him to get lost and find someone else that will treat you like a lady.
its not uncommon for secular muslim men to become religious fanatics later on in life (i have no idea why they jump from one extreme to another). get rid of him ASAP!
