"Uniforms" of ignorance.
-
Peace all,
Some excellent points of discussion and illumination are inevitably lost amongst irrelevancies in heated threads lately so I wanted to move this piece out for everyone to consider. Brother Damon was replying to a first time lady poster who was wearing the "hijab" as a part of her identity
I do wear the hijab, out of my own choise (sic), to express my identify (sic)
Please keep in mind that there is no such thing as a physical so called "Muslim Identity". The only true a identity of a submitter are that of righteousness and Submission to GOD alone. If GOD did not command hijab in the Quran, then that means it is not an Islamic requirement, nad in fact, has nothing to do with Deenul-Islam.
This is an excellent answer.
Its highlighting of righteousness is so pertinent in fact that there is an extremely illuminating verse in the Quran specifically for people who believe that there is such a thing as an identifying muslim uniform whether that be an hijab or a beard and arab/paki' robes...
O children of Adam, we have provided you with garments to cover your bodies, as well as for luxury. But the best garment is the garment of righteousness. These are some of GOD's signs, that they may take heed.
O ye Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover your shame, as well as to be an adornment to you. But the raiment of righteousness,- that is the best. Such are among the Signs of God, that they may receive admonition!
Quran 726 RK and AYA translations
Contrast that with the surmised (from ahadithic sources) "uniforms" of traditionalists. Where does it forbid silk for example? God affirms that clothes are for covering AND adornment/luxury no doubt as part of His endless mercy.
Peace
