The quran clearly states how much we are to contribute.

Just know that 1/5 of what you profit shall go to God and the messenger, and the relatives, and the orphans, and the poor, and the wayfarer." You will do this if you believe in God and in what We revealed to Our servant on the day of the Criterion, the day the two armys clashed. God is able to do all things. 841

So, why have the sunni's invented the once a year zakat thing? Quran says on the "day of harvest" meaning when you actually get food/income. Have the sunni's invented this to be a once a year day and call it Eid al-fitr? Such a stupid satanic innovation. Those poor people need it frequently, not once a freaking year.

As for how to know the amount, zakat is the obligatory charity set as 2.5% of the net income, paid year around whenever the person receives an income. It is described in the Quran as a known and obligatory portion of the income. God will not call it known if it was not.

There is no such thing as 2.5% zakat in The Quran.

There is no % zakat in The Quran.

There is no zakat = give the excess, in The Quran.

There is no clear zakat=charity in The Quran.

I strongly recommend studying the occurrences of the word, and related topics and words. It is so easy to do, it is simply a matter of time/effort/sincerity/etc.

Articles such as the following are a disgrace, full of lies/distortion http//www.submission.org/ramadan/zakat.html

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

I'm a bit confused. Sunnis and shias pay 2.5% zakat every year. How much do quranites pay?

          Peace,
          Respectfully.

We are called Muslims and we pay what is beyond our needs on the day of harvest to parents, relatives, orphans, poor and travellers.

          Peace.

                      2. Again, what bull.

                      3. Pretty sure it mentions the "month" of fasting which is 30 days or around that amount.

                      4. "Pilgrimage to the house of Allah" = take a trip to Mecca ;D

                      5. Although it calls it a known amount. We'll go by God's words. If it's not known, he would not have called it so. It's an Arabic (rub' ushr) or one quarter of one tenth. This was perserved since Abraham pbuh.

What's sunni is the stupid barbaric treatment of people, especially women, and the stupid invented laws like you can't draw, dance, or watch tv. nope

                          Peace everyone,

Leave alone those who claim that Zakat does not mean obligatory charity but only purification. They only follow their conjecture in this matter but not the truth just like they claim Salat to mean contact/assembly/meditation,etc but not ritual worship.

The present Quran does not say any rate to calculate the amount of Zakat. But the rate at which Zakat has to be calculated must have been clearly mentioned in the original Quran because it is clearly mentioned in the Torah. As per the Torah, Zakat is to be given at 10% on all incomes. So it is for Muslims too because Salat and Zakat are the universal laws ie common commandments in all revealed religions.

                          Yours truly,

You should give the excess, not the tenths! Anyone who hoards wealth will lose.

Thats what Jihad by your property means.

Does this mean that 2.5% zakat isn't required? It can be 1%?

3180 Those who are stingy with what God has given them of His bounty should not count that it is good for them; no, it is evil for them. They will be surrounded by what they were stingy with on the day of Resurrection. To God will be the inheritance of the heavens and the earth; and God is Ever-aware of what you do.

437 Those who are stingy and order the people to stinginess, and they conceal what God has given them from His bounty. We have prepared for these ingrates a painful retribution.

So, dont be stingy - keep a balance

2567 Those who when they give they are not excessive nor stingy, but they are in a measure between that.

                                  To whom does charity go?

2215 They ask you what they should spend, say, "What you spend out of goodness should go to your family and the relatives and the orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarer. Any good you do, God is fully aware of it."

1726 Give the relative his due, and the poor, and the wayfarer; and do not waste excessively.

                                  How much?

2219 ...They ask you how much are they to give, say, "The excess." Thus, God clarifies for you the signs that you may think.

                                  When?

6141 He is the One Who initiated gardens; both trellised and untrellised; palm trees, and plants, all with different tastes; and olives and pomegranates, similar and not similar. Eat from its fruit when it blossoms and give its due on the day of harvest; and do not waste. He does not like the wasteful.

Basically, you decide how much you give. But remember, do not be stingy. Personally, I think 1% is stingy. Dont be excessive either, keep a balance which benefits the needy, but doesnt harm you.

                                  Peace

edit unless the quran talking about olives' and pomegranates' day of harvest in which does anyone know when they are?

                                      Peace LiesExposed,

The present Quran is silent on the amount of Zakat to be paid. Those who are not mature or cannot show their ability to come out of the spell of the false messages of fabricated Hadiths but yet claiming to be free thinkers(free minders), have started finding way out for many unresolved issues such as Salat, Zakat, etc by inventing their own meanings to such duties. The result is that they preach Zakat means purification, Salat contact, etc.

Since the present Quran is incomplete with many parts of the original Quran being lost within the first century of its revelation, we can take the details of such duties from other revealed scriptures like Torah, Vedas, etc. It is the only way out now. The Torah clearly says that we need to pay 10%(one tenth) of all our incomes and Abraham also paid 10% of his incomes. You can verify it with the Torah. It is what is the amount of Zakat ie 10%.

                                      Yours truly,

The present Quran is silent on the amount of Zakat to be paid. 10% looks fair but is that inclusive of tax or exclusive of tax?

                                          Peace Bigmo,

Zakat is purely a tax on personal income of individuals. The national governments levy income tax on individuals and firms(both corporate and non-corporate). Since Zakat is to be paid by individuals @ 10% on their incomes and it is their individual responsibility, all welfare states should stop collecting tax on incomes of individuals because otherwise it amounts to double taxation. God willing, if I form a government, I shall do it!!!

Since there is no such a welfare state in the world, we can deduct income tax paid to the government from our(individuals) total income for the purpose of calculating Zakat.
To put it simply, Zakat is 10% on total income of individuals after payment of income tax to government.

                                          Yours truly,

                                          K.Vivekanandan
