    As'salaamu Alaykum...

I've also wondered if that were somewhere in the Qur'an that I have not yet reached. I have been adding out of respect, as I did not want to offend; however, if it IS NOT required by ALLAH and there is no mention of it in the Qur'an; which I have not yet finished (only at Surah 16 - Reading for today), then I will not be adding that in the future.

Bro Alen made a good point... why bless one whom is no longer alive with peace, especially when they have already attained that status?

Here again... I didn't feel altogether comfortable with it... and questioned it; however, wanted to continue in my reading of the Qur'an to find my answer! angel

    Thanks for the direction, again!

The Meek One, The Lady angel

PS. Bro Alen... have you finished reading the Qur'an completely and are you in constant study of it (Qur'an)?

      Peace to all,

First, I would like to say nice to meet you Meek and welcome to the forum, you seem like a very kind, honest, and intelligent sister, hope wew get to become friends. I did notice you posted your own webpage which I checked out, you say youve been a Muslim for awhile and you even where a head covering like traditional muslims do, but im curious that you said you never read the Quran yet. So you became a muslim before you even read the Quran? Is this true and if so why did you become muslim and whhere did you learn about it?

      Just curious sister.

      Kurt

        As'salaamu Alaykum, Bro Kurt...

Thank you very much for the welcome, it's so nice to be able to communicate with others about Islam, without arguments. angel

Also, thanks for your interest in how I became a Muslim in the first place.

To answer your question about my becoming a Muslim

First, I was a Christian before becoming a Muslim, although I let go of Christianity about 4 years ago; due to the fact that I can not, nor could I ever, comfortably bring myself to associate anything or anyone with God (Allah).
I was raised thinking that Christianity was the only religion in the world! I don't mean this literally; however, I had absolutely NO knowledge of any other religion, except the very minute mentions of "Muslims"... not even of the term "Islam".

After following my inner feelings of "nothing, but GOD!"... "no One, but GOD!"... "no one compares to GOD!"... "no one is like GOD!"... "no one is equal to GOD!"... and "GOD is above all!"... I never wished to call on... pray to... or develop a personal relationship with any BUT GOD! So, very recently... through studying and researching... and soul searching, I came to the conclusion that ISLAM (peace; submission to the ONE TRUE GOD) is all I want for myself. One who accepts this for their life is a "Muslim". So, knowing that all of my life, I've always had this mind-set and heart-felt longing and need to be this way... I thus discovered that I have ALWAYS been a Muslim... even when I didn't understand! Therefore, this is why I can not answer the question of "When did you BECOME a Muslim?" With my recent understanding... I have always been! I pray that you can understand all of what I just explained. angel

Anyway, now... as far as my reading of the Qur'an, thusfar

It has become my duty now, that I read the ENTIRE Qur'an, thoroughly and to the end... all the way through, without skipping anything! And until I am finished, I know that I am only a beginner in my faith with MUCH to learn.

Also, I don't wish to become confused with all of the information that others are offering, because I must first verify the answers to any questions that I may already have about ISLAM, being a MUSLIM, the Qur'an itself, or even about ALLAH! I know that I will find my answers with ALLAH's Guidance. So, where else, but the Qur'an.

So... I guess you can say that, yes... I became a Muslim BEFORE completing my reading of the Qur'an, because I am still finding my way through it (the Qur'an) as I correspond here. But, based on my explanation of becoming a Muslim, I'm sure that you can now understand! angel

If you have gone to my page, I have other blogs and one is entitled "What IS Religion, REALLY???" This is about the time when I was CERTAIN that ISLAM was for me, and therefore I indeed was a MUSLIM!

Now, I'll go a step further for you. I know that you did not specifically ask a question regarding the hijab, but I'll explain this to you as well.

I do realize that it may be traditional; however, I do know that Allah requires modesty from each of us. With this, I feel very obligated to honor Allah in doing so. My reason for wearing it, is that I honestly don't want others to judge me according to my outward appearance (ie. my hairstyle, my clothing, etc.) In my community, many do get caught up in all of that, and I especially don't want men to desire me in anyway, because of any "fancy or stylish" way that I dress or wear my hair. This only adds to confusion in my eyes. I want people to know me... and the Islam that I hold very dear to my heart... not pay attention to anything else about me. I hope you can understand that as well. It's definitely NOT because it's my understanding that this is what Muslim women are to do. I can not and WILL not do anything out of tradition! angel I must have my own reasons!

And guess what... to be honest, because I haven't yet gotten completely used to it... and because I haven't yet found a shop where I can buy the actual hijab, I find myself sometimes struggling to keep it together! angel I have bought my own scarves and use them as I go along, but it is something that takes some getting used to. Besides... I have noticed a lot of funny looks from others, because of it. I even had one acquiantance (I'm sure I spelled that wrong! ;D) ask me outright, because a group of them had the question, but no one wanted to "outright" ask... so she did... but the question was "Are you a Muslim?"... and when I answered, "Yes." She simply threw her hands in the air and walked away. Mind you... she is one who always greeted me with hugs, but on this day... she simply walked away from me! And, I thought... "Cool."

Anyway... sorry to "type" your head off... but I hope I answered your questions... and again, thanks for your interest.

Very nice meeting you... and God bless!

PS. Bro Alen... have you finished reading the Qur'an completely and are you in constant study of it (Qur'an)?

          Peace,
          Respectfully.

I have first read the Quran in the year 2000. I've read the Quran several more time and every time i read it, i memorize it more and more, AlhamdilAllah.
I'm always out for more knowledge and i always turn to the Quran wheneve ri have a question about Islam. I don't seek humans to giv eme answers, because there are simply too many of them, menaing, too many different answers.

I'm constantly studiing the Quran and learning more and more every day. I can't wait for this year's fasting, which starts on July 19th, God willing, because fasting always helps me achive inner peace and i read Quran more.

I was in UK for the past 15 months and people would get very offended if i said prophet Muhammed without mentioning the peave be upon him. They would ask me why and i would tell them the truth Prophet - any prophet - is in paradise now. He has all the peace he will ever need. He has - as you said - achieved what he wanted and Thank God for that.

If you need a friend, i'm here.
          My YIM is producent78
Since i'm on vacation now, i have more time to talk about Islam and discuss topics regarding Quran.
May The Exalted God Most Merciful give you more Best health and even more patience.

P.S.I had a tooth removal yesterday so i have to remember how Health is important.
          Glory be to our God.
          Peace.

When I read quran it doesn't say 'peace be upon him' after it mentions the names of prophets. Is pbuh an innovation?

If the formula for it isn't mentioned in quran, then couldn't anything be said as a form of respect, rather than the formulaic hadith-based 'peace be upon him' of sunnis or 'peace be upon him and his family' of shee'ahs?

            (&#1638

In verse 33-56, God asked the believers to do what God and his Angles do, that is "Saloo Alia wa Salmoo Taslima"

The arabic words "Salo Alih waa salemo" can be translated to "Greatings and Prayers upon Him"; but the common use is "Peace Be Upon Him" (PBUH)

            Anyway, welcome

              As'salaam Alaykum, Bro Belalhammad...

Thank you for pointing out that verse in the Qur'an (3356); which reads "Surely Allah and His angels bless the Prophet. O you who believe, call for blessings on him and salute him with a (becoming) salutation."

If you agree that a translation of the Arabic version of this verse means the same, I have a couple of questions concerning it (the verse).

              1. When one salutes another, isn't it an act... meaning a verb... meaning that you are in fact DOING something?

              2. "... call for blessings on him..." - well, I'm certain that the definition of "grateful praise or worship" doesn't fit here, because ALLAH would not ask us to praise or worship anyone or thing, except HIM. But, there are other definitions... 1. the act of one who blesses 2. a declaration of divine favor, or an invocation impluring divine favor on someone or something; a benediction; a wish of happiness 3. a means of happiness; that which promotes prosperity and welfare; a beneficent gift 4. a gift 5. grateful praise or worship

Well, we already cancelled out definition #5 for the reasons stated above... but for those other definitions left... they are also ACTS that one does on behalf of another on whom is still with them or US... only a living person existing in this world can benefit from blessings... do you agree?

Now, I'm not a scholar... and I'm not trying to be "right"... only trying to make sense of things. So, please... don't hesitate to correct me or offer some insight or understanding that I am missing from this verse.

My interpretation of this verse is that this was a command to those who were in the Prophet's presence. "... call for blessings on him..." and "... salute him with a (becoming) salutation." Which one can only salute another who is in their presence, because it is an ACTION. Again... I could be wrong in my interpretation... and if I am, please help me to understand.

              With much respect to others...

              Peace and blessings...

I do not think the verse ends with (salute him/peace upon), but with (and submit completely). Salute (in Arabic), which is sallim, should be followed by the preposition 3ala. If the preposition is not there (which is the case here), the verb becomes submit. The verbal noun following it, which is (taslima) serves as emphasis, which could be submit a complete submission; submit completely. Moreover, the verb "sallimu" is not followed by any object, so it is wrong to add (him) or (upon him) which is not there. This is a further proof that the verb (sallimu) is the intransitive form and could only mean (submit).
Hence the verse should be translated in this was
God and His angles (yassalloun 3ala) the prophet. O believers (sallu alaihi) and submit completely/fully.

Thank you for the explanation, but could you please give me your translation of the entire verse (3356). I do not know any Arabic... only a few words that I've recently learned ;D... and I don't read it at all.

BUT WHERE IN QURAN DOES IT SAY P.B.U.H. AFTER NAMES LIKE IBRAHIM, YAKUB, ESA, NUH ETC. ETC.?

Muhammad is a special case because he was alive at the time. We don't know how Muhammad referred to past prophets because that's sunnah and no sunnah is reliable. So far, I haven't seen P.B.U.H. after any past prophets' names in the quran. If Allah doesn't say to say PBUH after ALL prophets' names (not just Muhammad), why should I force myself to do what Allah hasn't asked me to do?

Actually, I can say (peace be upon you) in English without raising any questions, but I cant say the Arabic version (salla allhu 3alaika) to you or to ANYONE else, although there's a verse that says that God and His angels (yussalluuna 3ala) us 3343; and He asked the prophet to (yussalli 3ala) those whom he takes charity from their money 9103, and the patient ones receive "salawaatun" from God upon them 2157.

                          Salam, All...

Is there anyone who can translate the entire verse to arabic, but written so I can understand and look up translations myself? I can't read arabic writing. So, I'm not asking for it to be written in the Arabic language. Was that clear enough? Sorry, if I'm confusing anyone.

Like for example... "The Opening" is English, but translated in Arabic it is "Al-Fatihah"... but it's not WRITTEN in Arabic writing. Another example English - "Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds"... in Arabic, "Al-Hamdu lillah rabb al-AAalameen" <---- this may not be totally correct, I've seen different versions of it's translation (wondering how or why) but, nonetheless; I think you get my point.

Can anyone help me with this? I'm asking for the entire verse of surah 3356 to be translated as the examples above.

And, to clarify... I am not looking to be a "difficult" Muslim... I simply wish to do whatever ALLAH asks or commands of me, to be the BEST Muslim that I can be, according to ALLAH's laws and the Qur'an (ALLAH's Laws). I do not wish to be a "traditional" or "labeled" Muslim... or to be divided within the beautiful way of ISLAM. Therefore, I believe that the way to be on ONE accord is to stick to the Qur'an. That way... everyone is following ALLAH's Straight Path!

                          Peace and blessings!

The Meek One, A Lady angel <---- Not looking to be a scholar... has no problem in being a student... for life!

Then you should have asked for a "transliteration", not a translation. That's why I did not repond to your demand because I was confused as to why you would need a translation and it's all over this forum and the internet )

Here is what you want (hope I got it right)

Thank you for the correction "transliteration", in stead of "translation". I will be checking on that.

Also, I'd like to add for others whom are interested in this topic... and this is, again, ONLY my interpretation of this verse (3356)

Where it says (in the version of the Qur'an that I have), "... call for blessings on him..." - The Prophet is in need of no more blessings at this time, because he has reached the uttermost of any blessings. He is with ALLAH! He is TRULY blessed to the greatest degree of blessings! How then can we ask or call for any more blessings than that? He has no need for this... or for the call of peace to be upon him, because he has also attained the greatest gift of peace... again, he is with ALLAH! Can one ask for or call for, or request any more peace upon another than this? The PEACE, at its greatest, has already been established for the Prophet. This is why I believe that this verse was referring to believers that were in the PRESENCE of the Prophet, because at that time, he was still here (a human in the world) who could always benefit from the "call for blessings" or a "(becoming) salutation".

ONLY my interpretation... but my mind is very open for correction or more detailed interpretation or understanding.

                                Peace and blessings!

The Meek One, A Lady angel

If we ask for blessings for the messenger, we are asking for blessings for the message... He passed the message, we want that the message goes on being passed with increased blessings, and the messengers today is us. So yes, let us ask for plente of blessings for the messenger so that we don't fail to pass it on.

                                  Salaam

                                      Salam,

On the other hand, where in the Quran that forbids saying peace be upon him?

                                      Hati

Many things aren't in the quran; that's what led to so many sunnah innovations in the first place.

Do you know what you're saying?

Why are you so upset; o

all I said was the Verse; I did not even paste the English translation from the source that I use (because I did not think it was right) the verse says ?oh who you Believe, Salwo Alih wa salemo taslima?. In the verse God ask (not me) the BELIEVERS to say what I wrote in Arabic, but the English translation is what I?m not sure about.
