Where in the quran does it say to say 'pbuh' after prophet names?
-
BUT WHERE IN QURAN DOES IT SAY P.B.U.H. AFTER NAMES LIKE IBRAHIM, YAKUB, ESA, NUH ETC. ETC.?
Muhammad is a special case because he was alive at the time. We don't know how Muhammad referred to past prophets because that's sunnah and no sunnah is reliable. So far, I haven't seen P.B.U.H. after any past prophets' names in the quran. If Allah doesn't say to say PBUH after ALL prophets' names (not just Muhammad), why should I force myself to do what Allah hasn't asked me to do?
Peace
It says peace be upon them several times most of them in the sura 37 - Ranged in Rows, here you are
'Peace be upon Noah among all nations!'
3777and we let them be praised by succeeding generations 'Peace be upon Abraham!'
37108-109We let them be praised by succeeding generations 'Peace be upon Moses and Aaron!'
37120-121We let them be praised by succeeding generations 'Peace be to Elijah!'
37129-130And most important of all
Your Lord, the Lord of Glory, is far above what they attribute to Him. Peace be upon the messengers and praised be to GOD the Lord of all the Worlds
37180-182Here the MESSENGERS and GOD are said in the SAME BREATH!!! just like the Sunni Shahadah...Does that mean its shirk? but these are the Words of God, does that mean God is contradicting Himself? No! Because when GOD says peace be upon the messengers it means peace be upon them for the MESSAGE they delivered about devotion to God alone which is why it links on to the most important conclusion of all "praise be to God the Lord of all the Worlds". As the God says 'truly they were among Our faithful servants' They acted out God's duties for them and they were faithful therefore their examples of MESSENGERSHIP and nothing else is something we must all strive for to attain PEACE. Which is why God says Peace be upon them for the example they represented so that anyone who sees them as an example to follow ONLY in what is given in the Qur'an and no separate fancy story MAY have Peace upon them from the Lord of the Worlds.
Don't let anyone tell you there is anything wrong with saying Peace be upon the messengers. But we must understand the REASONS why we say it and we must not let it become obsessive compulsive like saying Insha'Allah without being conscious of it. I think we should be conscious of everything we say and know that by following the example of the MESSENGERS (which is what they are referred to in sura 37, God is very specific about wording) and wishing peace on the examples they represented is NOT bad or shirk or anything, It's in the Glorious Qur'an so you can see for yourself.
We must not make mistakes of thinking some things are in error because they are in the Hadith when they may also be in the Qur'an just the interpretation or the meaning behind it may have changed. What you must understand is that there is no compulsion in God's system, God says peace be upon them so you know them as examples to follow. When you recite the Qur'an at night you will see these words as well if you read sura 37 all the way through, this means you are repeating the message out loud in your head for clarity and emphasis. You will emphasise these points and hopefully will lose doubt about saying Peace be upon blah. Whether peace is said before or after the name is not relevant.
Peace

Salaam, All... and nice meeting you, Soof...
I haven't yet had the chance to go and look up the verses you (Soof) supplied, because it's past my bedtime. But, I wanted to reply before loggin out ;D.
Thank you for your information and explanations that you have provided for everyone to verify for themselves (although, again... I haven't done so yet, but I will). Also, I do realize that you did quote the post of the person you posted this message for, but I just wanted to respond anyway. If you don't mind?
I just wanted to say... on behalf of myself and probably others... I personally don't have a problem at all with anyone who says "pbuh" after mentioning the Prophet's name... or any other Messenger (however, I do think that it's only fair to do this for ALL, if any... and not ONLY the Prophet Muhammed, because we are not to make any distinctions among them); however, I do have a problem with other Muslims becoming hostile with me or others if we choose NOT to say this. Just as we should not become irritated with those who choose TO say this... those who choose to, should not become irritated with those of us who DON'T.
I believe and TRUST in ALLAH, that if I AM to mention "pbuh" after each of the Messengers names, He allow me to find and understand His words as such... in other words, if HE is COMMANDING me to, then I most certainly will. But, if ALLAH is presenting it in the Qur'an as an option or a choice, then there may be times when I will... and times when I won't. But, again... if it is not a command from ALLAH, then I do not wish to be interrogated by other Muslims as to my "conduct" for not doing so.
I wish to serve ALLAH and allow Him to guide me to the Straight Path. I don't wish to follow men and "tradition" and get so caught up in things that are not commanded or advised by ALLAH... too much confusion there. (Ok... have to end it here ;D... getting sleepy! hypno) Again... thank you for the input, it was appreciated by me. I can't speak for others, but I'm sure that I'm not alone in my appreciation ).
ALLAH knows best.
Salaam,
No Title - for 1 more day... I think confused

Peace, nice to meet you too
I agree totally. Thats why I said in the post we must not become obsessive compulsive about saying things in the Qur'an that are not commanded, everytime we mention something we must know why we are doing it always, just like Wudu, it shouldn't become reflex, we must do it slowly and understand why we are doing it each time, this is so that we gain further mindfulness of God and put aside our Earthly worries for that time. If everything becomes ritual or reflex it means we can do all these duties whilst plotting to do evil and corrupt acts (Like the Mafia baptising themselves or repenting to a Catholic priest)
If someone in their fallibility does not say PBU the Messengers nowhere in the Qur'an does he say he is a transgressor. God mentions it so we understand why there is peace on the Messengers. The main reason people you talk about will interrogate you and get angry with you is because they are Sunni. In all honesty their religion is about Muhammad not God. They have erected Muhammad as a partner God just as the Christians have with Christ, what is more alarming is they scoff at Christians for their obvious shirk and neglect their own faults. So not saying PBUH to a Sunni is like not Emphasising Jesus is the Christ to christians because they hold it in VERY high regard. Muhammad the man not the messenger is their shining example. If they truly understood what PBUH meant - that it is referring to the Messengership of the man not his life - then they would realise that Sunnah of the prophet becomes redundant as all necessary accounts of Muhammad's messengership is in the Qur'an.
Peace and Goodnight
