    Greetings and Peace, all group

    Zombie thread!

I'd recently come across the idea of a basic universal income. Even if there are few jobs, under this scheme it would be possible to maintain a currency and rewards for extraordinary ability/talent/work. This would diminish the likelihood of technological stagnation, as there would be extra motivation to strive. Imagine having all basic goods provided for...and still having a nominal yearly sum to spend, and the ability to earn more (should one desire).

    @ dumbbledoo welcome

Regarding hadith, AQ contains hadith; it is the extra-Quranic hadith that have no place in the deen.

Have you considered the information in the following thread https//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9188.0

3918 The ones who listen to what is being said, and then follow the best of it. These are the ones whom God has guided, and these are the ones who possess intelligence.

You are totally correct to not follow what you have no knowledge of.

1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of; for the hearing, and eyesight, and mind-all these you are responsible for.

Many are tested in whether they will follow others or follow the Almighty. It is pleasing to see those that seek to follow the Almighty alone.

6116 And if you obey most of those on the earth they will lead you away from the path of God; that is because they follow conjecture, and that is because they only guess.

292 Did the people think that they will be left to say "We believe" without being put to the test?

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Did prophet Muhammad make mistakes /sin
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

What immediately came to mind were the following

661 O prophet, why do you make forbidden what God has made permissible for you, seeking to please your wives? God is Forgiver, Merciful.

801 He frowned and turned away.
802 When the blind one came to him.
803 And what makes you know, perhaps he is seeking to purify?
804 Or to remember, so the remembrance will benefit him?
805 As for the one who was rich.
806 You were addressing yourself to him.
807 And why does it concern you that he does not want to purify?
808 And as for the one who came to you seeking.
    809 While he was concerned.
8010 You were too occupied for him.
8011 No, this is but a reminder.
8012 For whoever wills to remember.

It would seem strange to me if there was no mistake mentioned. Look at other prophets, peace upon them all.

Adam 235 And We said "O Adam, reside you and your mate in the paradise, and eat from it bountifully as you both wish, and do not come near this tree, else you will be of those who have wronged."
236 So, the devil caused them to slip from it, and he brought them out from what they were in, and We said "Descend; for you are enemies to one another; and on the earth you will have residence and provisions until the appointed time."

Noah 1145 And Noah called on his Lord, and he said "My Lord, my son is from my family, and your promise is the truth, and you are the Wisest of all Judges."
1146 He said "O Noah, he is not from your family, he was of an unrighteous deed, so do not ask what you have no knowledge of. I advise you not to be of the ignorant."
1147 He said "My Lord, I seek refuge with You from asking You what I do not have knowledge of. And if You do not forgive me and have mercy on me, I will be of the losers!"

Abraham 604 There has been a good example set for you by Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people "We are innocent from you and what you serve besides God. We have rejected you, and it appears that there shall be animosity and hatred between us and you until you believe in God alone." Except for the saying of Abraham to his father "I will ask forgiveness for you, but I do not possess any power to protect you from God." "Our Lord, we have put our trust in You, and we turn to You, and to You is the final destiny."

David 3822 When they entered upon David, he was startled by them. They said "Have no fear. We are two who have disputed, and one has wronged the other, so judge between us with the truth, and do not wrong us, and guide us to the right path."
3823 "This is my brother and he owns ninety-nine lambs, while I own one lamb; so he said to me 'Let me take care of it' and he pressured me."
3824 He said "He has wronged you by asking to combine your lamb with his lambs. And many who mix their properties take advantage of one another, except those who believe and do good works, and these are very few." And David guessed that We had tested him, so he sought forgiveness from his Lord, and fell down kneeling, and repented.

Moses 2815 And he entered the city unexpectedly, without being noticed by the people. He found in it two men who were fighting, one was from his clan, and the other was from that of his enemy. So the one who was from his clan called on him for help against his enemy, whereby Moses punched him, killing him. He said "This is from the work of the devil; he is an enemy that clearly misleads."

Jonah 37139 And Jonah was one of the messengers.
37140 When he escaped to the charged ship.
37141 And he was guilty, so he became among the losers.

Solomon 3832 He then said "I have enjoyed the material things over the remembrance of my Lord, until it has become completely veiled!"
3833 "Send them back." He then rubbed their legs and necks.
3834 And We had tested Solomon, and slumped a form upon his throne, then he repented.

Unknown 2187 And the one with 'N,' when he went off in anger, and he thought that We would not be able to take him. Then he called out in the darkness "There is no god except You! Glory be to You, I was of the wicked!"

  • I am a former Tanakh Jew

    Kyrate welcome

    Greetings and Peace, all group

The definition of a particular faith varies from one person to another. If a Christian is one who follows the teachings of Jesus, and a practitioner of Judaism is one who follows the teachings of Moses, it stands to follow that a Muslim is also a Christian and a follower of Judaism. Monotheism is monotheism.

2136 Say "We believe in God and in what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Abram, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and what was given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to the prophets from their Lord; we do not make a distinction between any of them and to Him we submit."

2285 The messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord; and the believers, all who believe in God, and His angels, and His Books, and His messengers "We do not make a distinction between any of His messengers;" and they said "We hear and obey, forgive us our Lord, and to You is our destiny."

384 Say "We believe in God and what was sent down to us and what was sent down to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Patriarchs, and what was given to Moses and Jesus and the prophets from their Lord. We do not make a distinction between any of them, and to Him we submit."

4152 And those who believe in God and His messengers and do not make a distinction between any of them, We will give them their recompense. And God is Forgiving, Merciful.

569 Surely those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Sabians, and the Nazarenes, whoever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good works; then they will have nothing to fear nor will they grieve.

4829 Mohammed is the messenger of God, and those with him are severe against the rejecters, merciful between themselves. You see them kneeling and prostrating, seeking the blessings and approval of God. Their distinction is in their faces, as a result of prostrating. Such is their example in the Torah. And their example in the Gospel is like a plant which shoots out and becomes strong and thick and it stands straight on its trunk, pleasing to the farmers. That He may enrage the rejecters with them. God promises those among them who believe and do good works forgiveness and a great reward.

The core of the Holy Bible is still good. Sure, it may say that rabbits chew cud and that shellfish are not good to eat. Let me expound on the shellfish part

2267 For every nation We have established rites which they are to fulfill. So do not let the matter fall into dispute. And call upon your Lord, for you are on a guidance which is straight.

For myself, I find little need from the Holy Bible when I find the same message with fewer distortions in Al Qur'an (commonly abbreviated as AQ).

    Introduce Yourself

  • Viruses in theology of Qur'an
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

When talking about something as small as viruses, AQ 226 comes to mind

226 God does not shy away from putting forth the example of a mosquito, or anything above it. As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. As for the rejecters, they say "What does God intend with this example?" He strays many by it, and He guides many by it; but He only strays by it the wicked.

The fire that warms us can also burn us; the fire is neither good nor bad but we attempt to qualify it as such. People fuss if there is no rain, and people fuss if there is too much rain--one can blame it on the rain, but the rain simply follows the physical laws established by the Almighty. Neither fire nor rain nor viruses have a brain or a conscience.

Evolution favors not the strongest, but the most adaptive. By this time, anything incapable of adapting will soon cease to thrive and eventually perish.

Viruses are not without benefits. Here is one scholarly article that addresses this

    https//www.annualreviews.org/doi/full/10.1146/annurev-vi-04-071217-100011

Whether the most advanced medicine or homeopathic, there is only medicine that works and medicine that doesn't. ISA, one day we will make nanomachines that will stay inside the body and prevent illness, disease, and damage to the body. This will bring about other problems such as overcrowding, of course.

732 Say "Who has made forbidden the nice things that God has brought forth for His servants and the good provisions?" Say "They are meant for those who believe during this worldly life, and they will be exclusive for them on the Day of Resurrection." It is such that We explain the revelations for those who know.

991 There is no blame to be placed upon the weak, or the sick, or those who do not find anything to spend on, if they are sincere towards God and His messenger. There is no argument against the good doers; and God is Forgiving, Merciful.

2680 "And if I am sick, He is the One who cures me."

3918 The ones who listen to what is being said, and then follow the best of it. These are the ones whom God has guided, and these are the ones who possess intelligence.

4817 There is no burden on the blind, nor is there any burden on the cripple, nor is there any burden on the sick. And whoever obeys God and His messenger, He will admit them into gardens with rivers flowing beneath them; and whoever turns away, He will punish him with a painful retribution.

There is nothing great about being sick, but it isn't a punishment. If we are provided with nice things like modern medicine, we should use it. We should consider the best of what scientists and doctors have to say.

  • There is no shahada for believers in Allah & the Last Day, there is ALLEGIANCE..
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

If memory serves, there is an excellent article on the Shahada available.

Historically, the Shahada served to incorporate people into a growing empire. It was successful in that.

AQ 2131 When his Lord said to him "Submit," he said "I submit to the Lord of the worlds."

If a Shahada is a statement of submission, that is pretty clear! And remember

AQ 4125 And who is better in the system than the one who submits himself to God, and he is a good doer, and he follows the creed of Abraham in monotheism? And God took Abraham as a friend.

    Regarding bearing witness

AQ 2844 And you were not on the western slope when We decreed the command to Moses. You were not a witness.

The problems with the traditional Shahada are that (1) it is nowhere in Al Qur'an, which is complete, fully detailed, enough for a believer, etc. (2) It mentions a person, albeit a prophet along with ALLAH; consider AQ 4012 and AQ 12106. (3) It distinguishes one prophet, and we are commanded not to make any distinction between prophets; see AQ 2136, 2285, 384 and 4152. (4) The traditional Shahada bears witness to something that has not been directly experienced by the "witness" as in AQ 2844. (5) 631 hints that the traditional Shahada is not acceptable. (6) The traditional Shahada is what we found our forebears doing? brickwall AQ 2170, 5104, 728, 2624, and 3121 put the nail in that coffin. (7) Lastly, not only is the traditional Shahada not found in AQ, but there is no requirement for it listed in AQ.

  • Has anyone on here ever met another quran only believer in real life
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

494 O you who believe, if you strike in the cause of God, you shall investigate carefully. And do not say to he who greets you with peace "You are not a believer!" You are seeking the vanity of this world; but with God are many riches. That is how you were before, but God graced you, so investigate carefully. God is expert over what you do.

2267 For every nation We have established rites which they are to fulfill. So do not let the matter fall into dispute. And call upon your Lord, for you are on a guidance which is straight.

262 Surely those who believe; and those who are Jewish, and the Nazarenes, and the Sabians, whoever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good works; they will have their recompense with their Lord, and there is no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.

569 Surely those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Sabians, and the Nazarenes, whoever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good works; then they will have nothing to fear nor will they grieve.

2217 Surely those who believe; and those who are Jewish, and the Sabians, and the Nazarenes, and the Zoroastrians; and those who were polytheists; God will separate between them on the Day of Resurrection. For God is witness over all things.

So...the Almighty knows best who is a believer, that is not for us to say who is and who isn't. The various faiths and philosophies have varying rites, as we have our own, and this is okay and not to be an area of contention. Lastly truth and a positive outcome on Judgment Day is not limited to those who call Islam their deen.

I'd argue that since all Prophets (peace upon them all) came with the same message, if a Christian is one who follows the teachings and example of Jesus, then anyone who follows the teachings and example of Muhammad is also a Christian (in that definition of Christian).

Anyone who worships the message has gone far astray, as has anyone who worships a messenger or asks for the intercession of either. Those who blindly follow what they find others doing, whether here or anywhere else is setting themselves up for a disappointment. On the other hand, reasoned discourse benefits many ISA, and can provide leads for others to check and verify for themselves.

  • Pork is HALAL
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and peace, all group

I'm having trouble (pardon the pun) digesting 33 pages of this post.

    Some food for thought

2259 Or the one who passed through a town which had become ruins. He said "How can God possibly revive this after it had died?" So God put him to death for one hundred calendar years, then He resurrected him. He said "How long have you stayed here?" He said "I have stayed here a day or part of a day." He said "No, you have stayed here for one hundred calendar years! Look at your food and drink, they have not changed, but look at your donkey! And We will make you a sign for the people; and look at the bones how We let them arise, then We cover them with flesh." So when it was clear to him what happened, he said "I now know that God is capable of all things!"

Bones and fat are distinct from flesh/meat. I won't rehash the guidance distinguishing fat from flesh.

2267 For every nation We have established rites which they are to fulfill. So do not let the matter fall into dispute. And call upon your Lord, for you are on a guidance which is straight.

It doesn't much matter if there is a scientific or health reason to abstain from eating the flesh of swine or not.

If alcohol is forbidden to believers, is Kosher wine halal? If shellfish are forbidden in the Old Testament but expressly allowed in the Qur'an, how is this reconciled? Does the Qur'an expressly say that feces is forbidden to eat??? Seriously, the Qur'an is a guide for the deen and not a cookbook.

569 Surely those who believe, and those who are Jewish, and the Sabians, and the Nazarenes, whoever of them believes in God and the Last Day and does good works; then they will have nothing to fear nor will they grieve.

If the above refer to religion and not ethnicity, I don't think that diet is of primary concern. This being said, diet can be a rite (which we are to fulfill and not turn into a matter of dispute).

I'm interested in developing peccary as a meat alternative to pork.

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • If a person goes to Heaven, do you think they can wish...
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and peace, all group

    • Assuming that the description of heaven is literally exactly what it is described and not symbolic or vague or a metaphor or something other than the literal reading.
    • Assuming that people who are "heaven worthy" live in heaven with their soul and body and not purely souls or a purified form of what regular people of earth currently are.
    • Assuming that people who are "heaven worthy" think the same way as regular people of earth

I can't think of a reply for all this
(i mean no point in going further)

1335 The example of Paradise which the righteous are promised, is that rivers flow beneath it, and its provisions are continuous as is its shade. Such is the abode of those who were righteous, while the abode of the rejecters is the Fire.

4715 Is the example of Paradise; that the righteous have been promised with rivers of pure water, and rivers of milk whose taste does not change, and rivers of alcohol that are delicious for the drinkers, and rivers of strained honey, and for them in it are all kinds of fruits, and a forgiveness from their Lord; like that of those who abide in the Fire, and are given to drink boiling water that cuts-up their intestines?

It seems clear to me that Paradise is described not literally but metaphorically. It is a nice place and is described as such in terms that we can grasp.

    Greetings and peace, all group

From a Qur'anic standpoint, I don't see anything wrong with it. Would a blind person be discouraged from an eye transplant? Are we going to be like the people of Moses (peace upon all Prophets) when they kept asking for details on a calf? Even if sperm or egg were donated, the other half would be biologically related to the couple. Yes, adoption is meritorious--but it isn't the only way.

  • Quran says time travel is possible??
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

Scientists made photons go 310 times faster than the speed of light 18 years ago.

    https//abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=99113&page=1

Scientists have also succeeded in making light move slower in a vacuum than the so-called constant for the speed of light.

    https//phys.org/news/2016-03-optical-slower.html

Of course some other particles can move faster than the speed of light in a particular medium. Cherenkov radiation comes to mind.

My understanding of 2740 is that the Almighty is not governed by what we consider to be the "laws" of science.

2117 Initiator of the heavens and the earth, when He decrees a command, He merely says to it "Be,' and it is.

From a perspective of scientific theory, the speed of light doesn't have anything to do with time travel. That's just a trope.

ISA, time travel is possible. I surmise that not only is energy and mass related (931.5 MeV per u), but energy and space time are also related. ISA one day we will succeed in displacing space time with focused energy. The thing is, the energy necessary to displace space time would also be capable of disassociating matter--you'd have to "cut a hole" around the matter. I postulate that any mass displaced in space time would have to be replaced with the exact same mass--else the theory of conservation of energy just found an exception. Evidence for the theory of relation of energy and space time? How about black holes exploding, the "Big Bang", and expanding universe. Black holes may very well explode because the energy "congeals" into space time until the pressure overcomes the forces holding the black hole together. I don't agree with the theory of the Big Bang--I think that was only a black hole exploding. In any case, where did the space time come from if not from the explosion? An expanding universe also supports the theory that space time is interchangeable with energy.

Thought experiment the energy in a watch battery is enough to time travel. The thing is, the area of effect would be much much smaller than the nucleus of an atom. It isn't necessarily the amount of energy involved, it is the amount of focus/energy density.

    Anyway, enough of my ramblings.

    ALLAH knows best.

AQ tells us all that we need for the deen. It doesn't contain recipes, car repair, industrial processes and formulas. A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

    Has the following been considered?

1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of; for the hearing, and eyesight, and mind - all these you are responsible for.

4914 The Nomads said "We believe." Say "You have not believed; but you should say "We have submitted;' until belief enters into your hearts." And if you obey God and His messenger, He will not put any of your works to waste. God is Forgiver, Merciful.

An agnostic may be interpreting/struggling for/seeking knowledge. Isn't it more honest to embrace something only after giving it considered and diligent thought? hmm

ISA, agnostics will come to the deen. Those who are not currently of the deen may later ISA embrace monotheism, so we should refrain from behavior/speech that would tend to repel those who might be seekers--whatever their current system (or lack thereof).

Nanotechnology in particular has a strong possibility of making money obsolete. If there aren't sufficient jobs, how can money function? Not everyone can be an artist. No construction, manufacturing, mining, recycling, waste collection/processing, energy production, farming, or medical jobs will be available. Gold and other "precious" metals won't be particularly scarce or precious either. Any space where living structure can be built will be important, but it is doubtful whether private property will be a concern when trillions of people need living space. Power will most likely be generated through geothermal energy--deep in the earth where it is too hot to live anyway. Another possibility is harnessing Brownian motion (a possibility for powering nanomachines) for power.

Regarding space travel, if space time is folded, the speed of light is not a limitation. Further, if the spaceship is massive enough, the speed isn't terribly important. Imagine a spacecraft made out of a giant asteroid, a moon, a planet, or even a star. It is just too large to explore in a person's lifetime, so the speed to a destination just isn't that important. With enhanced lifespans from nanodoctors in the bloodstream and other technology, who can say just how long a person's lifespan is limited to. There are even some studies that suggest that a certain concentration of deuterium oxide (D2O) can even increase lifespan, at least in some animals. There are some animals that don't have a known longevity--they just aren't known to die. Think of tardigrades.

I'm concerned that technology may stagnate if people can't find a good enough reason to strive. For many, money provide that reason. Still, it is better to take what good we can find with technology--because the other alternative is to only have the bad. We'd still have atomic weapons even if we didn't have nuclear medicine. Overpopulation and crowding will provide some stimulus for innovation, ISA.

  • Usage of Gold and Silver Plates For Eating
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and peace, all group

Their usage is forbidden, as stated by the Prophet ?Do not drink from gold and silver containers and do not eat from plates made from them. Verily they are for them (the unbelievers) on earth and for you (the believers) in the hereafter.?

And he said ?He who drinks from a silver container, indeed (he) causes hell-fire to boil in his belly.?

Where in AQ is this found? You know, the complete, fully detailed, enough-for-a-believer Qur'an? Why should ANYONE take the sayer of a purported saying or those that propagate these sayings as a partner? Never mind. Enjoy this life!

  • How do you search for marriage? It's like 99% is following false doctrines..
    A Abdul-Hadi

    Greetings and Peace, all group

If there are about 7.6 billion people in the world, and 99% of them are unsuitable, that still leaves 76 million people that are suitable. Don't despair. Use the resources at your disposal, be upfront about who you are and who you are looking for, and be patient.

Personally, so long as someone is a monotheist, they would be suitable to my Deen (were I not already married). Don't worry too much about forms and rituals...

2267 For every nation We have established rites which they are to fulfill. So do not let the matter fall into dispute. And call upon your Lord, for you are on a guidance which is straight.

If finding a suitable marriage partner is a test, then it is a blessing of sorts to be tested. Don't ask for what you think to be the best--ask for what the Almighty knows to be the best for you and to accept whatever ALLAH gives you.

3186 We will test you in your wealth and in yourselves, and you will hear from those who have been given the Book from before you and from the polytheists much annoyance. And if you are patient and righteous, then that is from a strength of conviction.

I'd suggest using dating websites to help find people and help people find you. Be assured that there are many people currently searching for someone like yourself--you just need to make it easy to be found. If you know others that are not unfriendly, recruit them to be matchmakers--maybe they know of someone who would be a good match. There should be no urgency to marry--like a good carpenter would say, "Measure twice and cut once!"

May ALLAH see fit to Guide all seekers.
