the 'day of Congregation' or 'day of gathering' differs between societies. In the ancient world (and in some remote parts of the world) they have Markets days or Day of gatherings when tribes will converge on prominent places to trade etc.
You actually assume that biblical Sabbath was applicable to all.

does accepting hadith automatically excludes someone from the "muslim fold"? if not then calling ur self a quranist- a muslim that believes solely in the quran shouldnt be a problem.

In places like Reykjav?k, Iceland and Norway Ramadan fasting can last upto 22hrs or even more depending on how you interpret the verses.
The average sunni Idea is to reduce the time by using Meccan time, Is there anything Quranic concerning this?

Many people I know within the quranist community were attracted to the quranist idea because of the untold freedom it harbours, it gives you the choice of living a life without calling for any man?s death, it merges virtually into any society and culture seamlessly. But whilst Quranism can be a path to liberty, it can also be a path to fundamentalism; in fact I believe it was first fundamentalist before it was liberal.

Long ago the northern strip of Africa became a haven for a very unpopular Muslim sect; the Khawarij, even today so many communities in morocco, Algeria and Tunisia are riddled with traces of this ancient force. Somehow, through missionary activity or violence or perhaps simple migration, the historical region known as bilad as sudan came into contact with the idea of Quranism. In todays Nigeria, they are resentfully called the Kala Kato , which is also sadly the name they gave the Ahl Alsunnah. Local folk tells us that it was in the manner of preaching of the first Quranist that whenever they come across a hadith, instead of beginning in the traditional way, saying kala.. this name ....kala this person... up to the holy prophet, they will simply start and end with Kala Kato, kato being the hausa translation of ?a fool?, hence affirming that all hatihist are fools. But the one event that brought Quranist to the fore front was when in 1982, a man named Muhammad Marwa somehow garnered enough disciples to launch a quranist insurrection remembered today as the? mai-tatsine? uprising. That part of Africa had never experienced a religious war since the rise of the colonialist and remember this was almost 20 years before the Taliban or the 9/11 attacks, by legend or truth Marwa was said to have declared anything he deemed western as non-quranic and hence forbidden, in effect declaring anyone using such things an apostate or tatsine hence the name mai-tatsine, he that makes (people) apostates.

I know many people in this forum will bring about one conspiracy theory or the other, so I won?t try to prove he said or meant those things, needless to say that he actually preached through paper and video. What I find most disturbing is the sharp similarities of Marwa?s views with that of ancient Khawarijis, whom history has already told us made apostates out of muslims at any whim and dispose of their leaders in the most violent way they could find. I am in no way trying to say that Quranism is wrong or will lead to violence; I am however just trying to bring a historical example to those quranist who keep claiming that a return to Quranism will be a golden key to an utopia for the muslim world. I personally don?t know what such a thing will do and although I hate the ?muslim clergy? and what they have made of Islam, when I once asked myself what would happen if every tom, dick and harry is given the moral and ethical authority and justification to interpret the quran for himself, I found myself seeing but not agreeing with why our fore fathers perhaps did what they did. As the Quran puts it ?tumult is greater than oppression?
