I think Rawasiya are Plate Tectonics as Quran mentions them being huge and placed on the top of Earth just like mountains. Plate Tectonics are made up of Crust and Outer Mantle we call Lithosphere, which are 125 km think on average. Far more thicker than Mountains. This will fit in with the description of 'that they shift with you' instead of 'lest they shake with you' if the correct meaning of 'An' is done. Plate tectonics do indeed continuously move. Mountains also move but they serve as pegs for these plate tectonics, not the whole Earth. The tectonic plates keep them from drifting further down in subduction zones and therefore are pegs for tectonic plates looks more accuarte. 'Rawasiya' literally means anchorage while Mountains are their anchors. Jabal is mountain linguistically as well but Rawasiya is in no shape or form literally and linguistically mountain but an anchorages. So the Mountains act like anchors for Rawasiya i.e. their anchorage. Furthermore, no where in Quran Rawasiya is singular but always plural, unlike mountains where there is both single and plural used for mountain in Quran. As far as the argument goes that it looks like an above ground feature, this is not necessary. The rivers and roads are formed over mountains as well as on land, which is plate tectonics in reality. So rivers and broadways can form on all land not just mountains. This argument is even closer to Plate Tectonics than Mountains. God shouldn't have said we created roads and rivers in it for mountains alone as these features are not specific to mountains but apply to the whole Earth. Even the Mid-Atlantic Ridge looks more like a road or Broadway or path caused due to divergent plate tectonic boundaries. As far as I know, Rawasiya is not the 'source' of rivers as asserted, but God says that he created on them roads and rivers. And Allah knows best.
