Has anyone read "Al-Qur'an Guidance for Mankind by M Farooq-e-Azam Malik"? Does anyone have an opinion or criticism of this version? I'm currently reading "The Message" and I like it very much, but it is a bit difficult to follow at times. Although this is not a bad thing since it makes you concentrate harder to understand the message. On the other hand, "Al-Qur'an Guidance for Mankind" uses some in-line "comments" to help clarify the text. This makes it much easier to comprehend. What I'd really like to know, is this a prejudiced sectarian version, or an unbiased and accurate translation?
Any comments or opinions?
I applaud the translation team for deciding to remove the archaic language that pervaded the older versions of The Message. I've discovered that there are a few remaining archaic words which may have been overlooked. One is the use of the word unto. This word is typically paired with woe as in "Woe unto you". It appears that most of the uses of unto have been correctly replaced with to, but a few may have been missed. The word woe on the other hand, while not considered archaic, seems a bit so to me, however, I'm not sure an adequate substitute is available or desired by your team?
Thanks... Gary
The error occurs in Chapter 40, verse 67
"and some of will have their lives terminated before this"
should read
"and some of you will have their lives terminated before this"
or
"and some of will have their lives terminated before this"
BTW... I sent emails yesterday and today that were rejected because your mailbox was full.
This is the question I asked
When will a new version of The Message be available in print... one that will reflect the recent changes made to the on-line version? I'm interested in purchasing a copy but not until a new revised version is available. I believe the current version reflects major revisions to the text and should be reflected in a new printed version.
Thanks... Gary
