Peace,
JazakAllah for your help again Mr Wakkas and Student of Allah. I'll shed some more light on my situation may be I can get pointed towards the right direction. I am a trader, trading commodities and brokering business deals. I have been very successful in the field and thats how I make my living, I honestly know of no other method to make a living besides get a low paying job and lose everything that I have. Quranic commandments like
Sura 6
181. "Give just measure and cause no loss (to others by fraud).
182. "And weigh with scales true and upright.
183. "And withhold not things justly due to men, nor do evil in the land, working mischief.
Now the whole idea behind trading is based off on withholding things until their demand increases in market and resell them at higher price. Withholding contracts of grains for months to make a gain on them sounds like against the commandment, it may even come under giving just measures because when you resell it, its not really just measure, you bought the same contract for lot less and now you are selling it for a higher price.
Same goes with brokering business deals, anyone who has ever brokered a deal in business or real estate will understand that its all about the presentation, sometimes you have to hide the faults or lie about some of the things. Now I am not talking about straight up defrauding someone but lets say you are selling or renting a house and you know that the house is built in a way where all the windows are directly infront of sun and every owner or tenant in the past has complained about very high elec bills in summer but you dont mention that fact because you are doing a presentation or showing during the winter and the interested party is not gonna find out that fact. Now that to me was never a big deal, part of the business. You have to sell them on the ideas they are excited about and hide the facts that are gonna discourage them from buying, thats the art of closing any deal. I cant be the only one here stuck in this dilemma, I am sure everyone in their lifetime will face or have faced something like this, no matter if you are doing a garage sale and trying to convince someone to buy an old TV set or brokering a $50 million business deal.
How far does the meaning of "just measures" go. There isnt much information out about this topic to fit in todays world. Very few people in todays world are involved in weights and measurements and especially with standards weights and measures, that commandment if taken literally is not even a concern to anyone but if you apply the same principal to anything in todays economy, it seems nearly impossible to do business or trading. Commandment on just measures is very strong and I am not sure whats others take on this. This even applies to those grocery store owners or gas station owners here in US who buy stuff from sams club and put them on sale for 3-4 times their value, isnt that defrauding too? What about gas station owners who raise their prices during hurricanes or natural disasters? What about those who sell gas at 20 cents higher just because of a prime location at airport?
Very confused about this subject and there is very little if any information available on this topic.
Thanks for your help in advance!
