My main question is....was the lunar calender set in place with the month named Ramadan? And it is refered to as the "islamic" calender. I just want to understand how God would say fast in Ramadan and assume everyone knew what he was talking about.
I read 936 and yes it says 12 months, but either one, lunar and solar have 12 months, so it's not really answering my question.

I'm not challenging, but here in Free Minds is the place where we can ask questions and get answers (hopfully), and try to understand the Quran better, right? So for me it's really important that I understand that I am fasting on Gods command. I know the quran says fast, but I need more than that to make sure it wasn't added or altered and it really means a month called Ramadan.

I must comment here, for I too have doubts about the Quran. However, I ABSOLUTELY do beleive it was sent down by God, as well as the Torah and the Gospel. But..... MAN got a hold of it, altered it, added, and subtracted to fit their liking.
I think the Quran is the less altered holy book because it was verbaly being passed.
I don't have the verse with me now, I beleive it's under "Mohamad", but when I was reading it, I felt it was added. And some other contradicting verses about killing and befriending jews and christians in one part says don't befriend them, another says it's ok.

I'm not going to get into that, but my point is, IT IS GODS WORD! Unfortunately, I believe it's altered and one day I wil post my findings and see what everyone else has to say.

I was reading the quran today and I had the same question. I wrote down the verse so my husband will translate it for me because it seems contradicting to.....

"Surely, those who believe, those who are the Jews and the Sabians and the Christians ? whosoever believed in Allaah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they --grieve."

It seems the Quran is only contradicting in translation. Perhaps Allah was saying do not befriend those disbelievers (even those who call themselves Muslims). As for me, I understand that Allah gave scriptures and acknowledges in the Quran that they are true. Perhaps it is being said "stick to those who think alike so you will be better off"????? Allah forgive me if I am wrong in interpreting.

For if you befriend a disbeliever, you may become like them. I personally have friends of all religions, I am closer to those who believe in 1 God and they accept me, and I accept them, we are all followers of Allah.

Most of the mercury exposure would be from Tooth fillings. Moreover, get away with the energy saving light bulbs, they contain mercury as well. if you break these, you could contaminate the area with mercury, and it could take thousands of $$$ to properly clean the area (so much for energy savings!!!!---stick with regular bulbs or LED Bulbs.

You are right! Over ALL food must be recited bismillah. I was however talking about "Halal" meat sold in markets. The source is not of which Allah intended. It is misleading because it reads "halal", and because it had Allahs name mentioned before the kill (hopefully), but the standards of the way it was raised are not accounted for.
Really what I meant in this post is an eye opener! Anyone who is aware, and continues to consume these foods, are giving in to shaytans "evil plan" hahah (I will go so far as to say that). This is upon the individual who is eating to do so. And one must mention God's name upon EVERY FOOD for it to be "halal"/lawful food, not only meat.

5338 None can carry the burdens of another.
5339 The human being will have what he sought.

6164 Say, "Shall I seek other than God as a Lord when He is the Lord of everything?" Every person earns what is for it, and none will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return and He will inform you regarding your disputes.

397 If you reject, then know that God is in no need of you, and He dislikes rejection for His servants. If you are appreciative, He is pleased for you. None shall bear the burdens of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of everything you had done. He is fully aware of what is inside the chests.

Everyone has to mention the name of God upon his/her own food. One cannot rely on another person to do it for oneself. The whole point is that we REMEMBER GOD. How can you remember God if you buy food upon which OTHER people mentioned God's name? That defeats the whole purpose of mentioning God's name on the food.

6114 "Shall I seek other than God as a judge when He has sent down to you this book sufficiently detailed?" Those to whom We have given the book know it is sent down from your Lord with truth; so do not be of those who have doubt.

6115 The word of your Lord has been completed with truth and justice; there is no changing His words. He is the Hearer, the Knower.

6116 If you obey the majority of those on earth they will lead you away from God's path; that is because they follow conjecture, and that is because they only guess.

6117 Your Lord is fully aware of who strays from His path, and He is fully aware of the guided ones.

It is no coincidence that the following verse contains mentioning God's name upon our food. Many peopled are misguided and copy the mistakes that the Jews made with their intricate dietary prohibitions, and many do not want to follow God and remember Him themselves when they eat.

May be cutting off the sheep's ears is an old practice to mark the ownership of the cattle, but this was used when first cloning ?Dolly? the sheep and after that, to alter God?s creation, plastic surgery became widely available to ordinary people all over the world, deceiving humans with fancies to look young, beautiful and be happy forever.

Humans have been modifying diet since ages in order to get enhanced quality of food but now we have reached a stage where an excuse to feed the over populated world resulted in fertilizers, insecticide and GM crops which even insects would not eat as animal have natural instinct reject food which is not naturally good for them but humans get carried away with Satan?s promise. Consumption of food incapable of yielding naturally fertilizing seeds, will result in the breakdown of the natural cycle of reproduction and this is what Satan always wished, the end of human race.

I am trying to understand if the lunar calander was already set in place, the "Islamic" names for the months were named and who followed it? To my understanding the Islamic calender started in Mohamads time right?
So when God said "fast for Ramadan", had the lunar calender already begun? And to my understanding, Ramadan is the month the Quran was revealed, but I thought it was revealed in parts? No?
Am I understanding this correctly?....God created the lunar months for Islam? or why do muslims follow a lunar calender? And why isn't any other lunar month mentioned, or if it is, where are the verses?
I'm not trying to challenge anything, just I want answers. I feel sometimes that the quran was not preserved and there are missing verses or rearanged, even altered to fit who ever pieced it together. I hope I'm wrong.

I really just want answers because this wil be my first Ramadan fasting, and I want to make sure it was prescribed by God and not a person.

I am new to Islam and I read the Quran daily, but I don't feel satisfied. I would like to go further in certain topics and I don't hae any friends to talk to about it since they wouldn't understand I want to know what the Quran says, not hadith.
I would love to get a small group together with the same minds...following the Quran ONLY, and get together once a week on a specific day, even on Fridays as oposed to going to a masjid, and doing a quran study. Of course, I could not lead for my lack of knowledge, but I can try after a few times

To me, it's sounds like a warning of Genetically Modified Organisms and cloning, which is being done to our food supply and the FDA has agreed it's not important for labeling.
In the news a few years ago, they mentioned they had cloned the first sheep by using it's ear, I will have to search a little for that reference and post it.

That is why as muslims it is encouraged to eat only halal meat. HOWEVER; halal only means it has Allahs name mentioned when it's killed, it doesn't mean that it was raised humane, on pasture eating grass as Allah intended or not given growth hormones or antibiotics.
