The various forms of Guidance are intended as systems of living...how to be good/ethical to each other. Religion, as it all-too-often exists, focuses on ritual and not enough on practical applications. It is not enough to go to a house of worship or devote oneself to ritual. Likewise, one can't buy Paradise. A person who is unkind to others but regularly donates has an uncertain future.
Prayers (or other rituals and/or forms of communication) don't compel GOD. Have you heard of the likening of the word "pneumos" or "spirit" to wind? Prayer is like a sail that catches wind. A sail moves nowhere without wind--it is totally dependent upon it.
All people are brothers and sisters, and those that are monotheists have an especially strong bond. Those that are not currently monotheists may come to it at a later time.
