When the Progressives are wrong because you cannot live without Hadith, nor can you live with it; and they are about to publish a wishful rendering of the Honorable Qur'an (it may be a good thing after all?there are too many conservative renderings; it may do the balancing act); the Middle Eastern form of Islam is, for the most part, based on Hadith, at least at the lower levels of the society, and not on the Honorable Qur'an.
I remember when our Imam at Ft Bening tried to convince as that Judaism was, for the most part, based on the Talmud, and not the Torah.
However before you start to point your fingers at others, you must point your finger at yourself.
The recent most famous example is the treatment of dogs.
The Qur'an tells men that he can use dogs for hunting.
Some Hadith says otherwise.
Honorable Qur'an suggests that there is no harm in eating an animal even if it dies, while grabbed by a dog, which has been properly trained for hunting. Furthermore, the Qur'an has also referred to the fact that the Asshaab-e-Kahaf (companions of the cave) also had their dog with them; this shows that dogs had been used for guarding in the times of the Prophet (Allah Bless Him and Keep Him).
This is why, too often, Hadith is the main book of Islam.

I do admit that under my circumstances, I am a bad Muslim, but I like to hearken back to the tradition of the now non-existing Karajites (amongst Jews known as Karites or Kareims common in the former Soviet Union. They are reluctant in coming back to Israel even more than some of the Hassids. The official religion of Israel is not of the Hassidic Judaism, nor Conservative Judaism, nor Karites/Kareims kind of Judaism, but only and exclusively Orthodox Judaism). I want say clearly that I do not believe in the violence that they did commit against other Muslims. However, they were right to fight anyone who put anything before Honorable Qur'an. However, not right to spill blood.
