In fairness to me, i did google it after i posted the question so the question was in fact stupid but i admittedly didnt really think about it when i asked. Its one of those occassions i guess most people ask when they hear something they didnt know and just ask "is it?"

In my time as a sunni muslim, i did wear hijab and i found i got alot more attention, from both genders. I didnt feel more respected, in fact it was to the contrary...i got mocked, pointed and on a couple of occassions verbally abused. But if Allah had decreed for me to wear it, i would. And indeed did despite the said negative affects.

This was my point. I live in a small village where the muslim community is very segregated. I do not wear hijab and my friends all know im muslim, although not in the traditional sense. I dont choose not tp wear hijab through shame or fear, because im a perfectly comfortable in my choice of faith, but rather it is because, like you said, dressing modestly brings the desired effect of men not bothering me.

So the version of the quran i downloaded from here yesterday i will need to updatr once all the modifications are complete?

Thanks guys. I'll continue with mental bondage then go onto the one suggested and as with everything else, make up my own mind. Inshallah i have the patience to wait til Im done with one before starting the next though as i have a habit of reading multiple things at once and getting myself confused.

I would say useful is a gross understatement! Visiting a website and reading things to reaffirm my belief is one thing but to actually connect with others who share my beliefs and understand when i say i have experienced so much anguish, confusion and sometimes doubt in my journey is just amazing. I know others on this forum May have faced much worse, perhaps being shunned by their communities, hatred from within their families, physical attack and all in the name of a so-called religion, and it truly breaks my heart when we're all just striving for the truth and trying to bring our beliefs to our loved ones in order for them to see, hear and feel the true message of God.

So, useful?? No...you're all lifelines to everyone who is trying to do such a simple yet relatively near impossible thing.

Lol...got a reply to my email. It did no good at all. Apparently I'm on a 'dangerous path' and I 'don't want to arrogantly hold on to this position and pay for it later because it will be too late'

In fairness though, I do believe his advice is sincere and He just cares for me. But to me, that's all the more worrying. Hey ho....my final meeting is with allah and only He knows my heart and where I will be going. All I,or any of us can do is stay strong in our faith and ask ourselves everyday 'have I done enough?'

I think the only way I'm going to be able to read the quran how it should be is to learn arabic lol. Am I not just taking someone elses word for it that their translation is what the quran says?

@emil thank you. I found an alternative translation of the quran than the one I have at home and then read them in context with the whole surah and the verses made much more sense.

Thank u all ). I've mailed my friend back giving reasons I don't believe we need to follow the hadiths of muslim or bukhari or any other for that matter. I included verses from the quran stating time and again that the quran is fully detailed in all we need and also looked into the whole hikmah thing on my [email protected] on! So included this point. And to end just asked him to read the quran alone, forgetting all he'd learnt before and if after that He still feels He should follow the hadiths other than quran then we will have to agree to disagree as I'm strong in my faith that he quran is all I need. Inshallah it will open his eyes even if just a tiny bit.

But what about Rania Al Abdullah, born in Kuwait to Palestinian parents, the current Queen consort of Jordan? I cannot recall her ever wearing a hijab or any kind of covering.

This maybe a stupid question....is she muslim?

You are welcome. That's only my view though and inshallah you'll get better ones from sisters who practice wearing hijab on a day to day basis (I only wear it going to jummah cos I don't think id be allowed to masjid without one) and someone who lives in a muslim country.

A friend of mine who is sunni sent me lots to read to prove we should follow hadiths. The rest I drop kicked out of the park, but these are troubling me as they do appear to say follow and obey muhammads sunnah/ways

Also, what does al hikmah means and does anyone know the actual meaning of the word sunnah?

Oooh sorry, one more....I read earlier that it states in the quran not to follow hadiths....anyone know where exactly it says this??

My answers to your questions....

1. No. But living in a tiny village where I'm the only white revert, hijab is something that causes me to get stared/laughed at and tbh I feel less safe wearing it.
2. I know I'm a muslim and I'm proud of that fact but I do not live in a muslim country and many women living here wear hijab even if they are not muslim for cultural reasons. So to wear hijab to prove/ show I'm muslim wouldn't really show much at all.

Is it in the quran or sunnah to sleep in a certain position?
