    Salaam Miriam!

I have the book here borrowed from the library and i checked through it. Its written by sunni scholars and give us some indications on the prayers history, really i find nothing special in there. It costs so much too, like 170 dollars.

  • wine or intoxicants?
    P Pouya

    Peace inquisitivetrini

I am kind of sure that we have to avoid khamr completely (whatever it is )
check out the word rijsun (filth) in the Quran, which is used for khamr in 5.90. All verses that have this word seem to put forth something that is even worse than forbidden.
for instance, the same word is used for idol-worship in 22.30. Also faijtanibuhu (avoid it) seems to imply a stronger sense of prohibition than haram. that words is also used in 22.30

    so to compare

5.90 - faijtanibuhu al rijsa min amalil sheytan = avoid the filth of the work of satan
22.30 - faijtanibuhu al rijsa minal awthani = avoid the filth of idols.

    Quite similar isnt it?

    God bless you

  • wine or intoxicants?

    Salaam!

why is 2.219 and 5.90-91 translated to intoxicants when its quite clear from 12.36, 12.41 and 47.15 that its something that is pressed, and there's rivers of it delicious for the drinkers. I know that khamara means he hid, concealed, he veiled, but is this appropriate to apply to all intoxicants? What do you think?

    Questions/Comments on the Quran

  • Multiple meaning vs Explaining itself
    P Pouya

    Salaamun aleykum

I have a question about different views of interpreting the Quran. I know a lot here say that the Quran explains itself from other verses. for instance, to get the interpretation of nahar, daylight in 11.114 we can look in 91.1-3 to actually know what daylight is. Others extend the possibilities of choice of the actual word by refering to root-word dictionaries etc. and then look for different meanings by roots. for instance, 434 the word idribuhunna can mean strike, beat, set forth etc...

I have come to a very reflective period regarding this and i really wonder where the limit is set. I mainly think about 3.7 where God says that some people will get stuck on roots to extricate a certain meaning. But i also wonder if its correct to refer to that verse since we have actually have different choices. One word that really has a multiple meaning is ayat, which can mean sign, miracle and verse.

    Peace and God bless you
