The Quran as a Practical Guide
Finally, it is important to recognize that the Quran makes many claims—being from God is just one of them. Perhaps more significantly for our daily lives, the Quran claims to be THE guide (see verse 22). This is a particularly notable claim because it offers a practical test for its divinity. Simply put, you can follow its guidance and observe the results.
While the Quran’s alignment with mathematics, logic, and science is remarkable, its alignment with our personal lives as a source of practical guidance is, in my view, an even stronger proof. This is precisely what I would expect from a divine book—and exactly what I need in my life.
Experiencing the Quran as a guide that eases life’s challenges and aids in making sound decisions is a unique kind of proof. These experiences can be deeply personal and sometimes difficult to articulate. Yet, they often unfold in striking ways. You may feel confident about a particular decision, only to suddenly find yourself questioning it. In seeking clarity, you turn to the Quran, reflect on its guidance, and ultimately choose your course of action based on its principles. In my experience, its guidance consistently leads to positive outcomes—though at times, what may seem like an unfavorable result initially often reveals itself to be the right path in hindsight. But of course, one should always be careful to remain honest when analyzing this proof, as it is easy to deceive oneself in this subjective and often emotionally charged domain.
Even more compelling are those decisions you would never have considered making had it not been for the Quran’s teachings. Such moments can be profoundly moving, serving as a personal affirmation of the Quran’s divine nature. For instance, the proactive approach advised in verse 2412 and the opposite approach in verse 2413 offer insightful examples of this kind of guidance.
While I can share more specific examples, I recognize that personal experiences can easily be dismissed as ‘speculative’ or ‘subjective.’ Nonetheless, you can also explore how such guidance manifested in the life of Muhammad (e.g., 4730, 9101). Reflecting on these examples alongside verse 4153—“We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth”—may offer further clarity.
Conclusion
These reflections and experiences strengthen my conviction that the Quran is far more than a book merely claiming divine origin. It is a guide that offers practical solutions to life’s dilemmas, resonates deeply with our reason, and aligns with our lived experiences. I hope these insights prove helpful.
