I love him very much and know that having this difference in belief will not separate us. I feel no negativity towards him because of his opinion, I only wish he were more open minded and did more research. When I showed him articles describing Quran only he at first refused to even read it, then when he finally did he called it all bias (I still don't understand how) negative, and with very little support (which is untrue, there was support for almost every claim made and everything made perfect sense).

It is not my intention to change him to fit my ideas and opinions, but being honest with ourselves we obviously want our partner to agree on everything with us of course, I will not lie. But I love him how he is, Sunni or Quran only. We can work through these differences, I know. I just wish I knew some way to get him to put how he was raised and taught behind him and try to accept something he's not used to, somehow. Psychologically I know it's a hard cookie to crack. But if he truly has no interest, I will not force him to change or ever hold his traditionally brought up religious beliefs against him.

    Peace everyone )

Peace everyone, and thank you once again for your kind replies and for taking the time to write to me so detailed, I am very appreciative.

In response to my age and my engagement, we are both currently in University. He is studying English and Psychology while I am studying Food and Nutrition to become a Dietitian. We do not plan to marry now, but after we have graduated. Thank you for your concern though, I feel I would not be ready at this age yet. Oh! Also, it wasn't arranged, we met through a club we both managed during high school, the school radio that we DJ'd, haha! We have known each other now for four years. He is an excellent man and will be an excellent husband.

In response to the raw diet, haha! I do not eat raw meat, no. For my cats it is called the Prey Model Diet, where you feed them 80% muscle meat 10% bone 5% liver 5% secreting organ. They thrive on this diet and will live long and happy lives with little to no "normal" diseases, and no dental issues whatsoever. I feed myself raw as well in a way, but by this I mean raw fruits and vegetables and nuts and legumes. I do eat my meat cooked, fear not! Haha ;D

Since accepting true Islam into my life I even feel guilt to kill insects in my home, and either leave them be or set them free. Except house centipedes and larger spiders. I do away with those. shiver & God forgive me and little creepy centipedes and spiders forgive me.

In response to hijab, I wore it for a year believing I was doing something God loved and wanted me to do, but kept finding issues in my life because of wearing it such having to be paranoid at people's houses if I take the hijab off that a man will walk in the room and see me (and he wouldn't even care and neither would I so why am I even doing this?) and I couldn't swim in public or do anything that involves wearing tighter clothing (I have an irrational fear of going on theme park rides with loose clothing or scarves on because I fear they will catch on something and I will be strangled or squeezed or cut into pieces, I have no idea...) I stopped wearing hijab when I realized I wasn't wearing it for the purpose it was apparently for, but simply to fit in as a Muslim woman.

And thank you DrGm, I will remember to keep myself peaceful and ask God for guidance and calmness when I encounter such frustrations.

I hope I've covered everything, I have read everyone's replies and truly appreciate the advice I am being given. God bless you all, and I am happy there are others who believe as I do.

I have one concern. When I marry this Sunni man, will my Quran only belief clash with his Sunni ideology? He is very passionate about children being raised and educated properly and not confused. I do not want my children to believe in Hadith, and he does not want them to not believe in Hadith. What to do?

Hello everyone! Yes, that is my sweet beloved Ragdoll kitten Nouri. He is a very loving companion. I feed my kittens (Nouri and Lolly) a purely raw diet from very detailed research. I believe that just as it is important to keep ourselves healthy, we must care for our pets and animals the same.

I am happy I have never been afraid to be the minority. Also, I do agree that the Sunni's are not doing anything sinful or wrong, simply that they are misguided. Who can blame them anyway? When there's over a billion Muslims in the world that tell you to practice a certain way and all the mosques practice the religion this way, who wants to deviate from this? ( Sometimes life is a confusing thing. There's power in numbers and much influence to the masses.

In reference to swimming, because it is currently Ramadan, my fianc?e has been fasting. I am only 19 and in university living with my Christian parents, and they will not let me fast, so I respect their wishes. I asked my fianc?e if we could go swimming during a particularly humid heat wave, and he claimed he could not because he might swallow water. And I pondered over that for the rest of the day. "Would God really forbid swimming in order to prevent the accidental ingestion of water during Ramadan?" I am fed up with this cautiousness as though God is picky and unreasonable.

Thank you for all of your replies! I am very happy! God bless you all for taking the time to welcome and reply to me.

Peace be upon you all, and it is very lovely to meet you.

My name is Savannah. I learned of Islam through my relationship with a wonderful Muslim man to whom I am engaged. The Islam he taught me is one of peace, purity, unity, love, happiness, nature, science, rationality, and above all, as God says himself, one that requires no hardships.

I have been a Muslim for three years, and even wore the hijab for a year. I started to wonder "Why do we do these things?" And was introduced to the Hadith. I read through these Hadith, and read some very offensive and irrational things, things that did not sound beautiful or natural at all. I started to look around me, and I found Muslims only hanging out with other Muslims, Muslims that never smile, Muslims that will not go swimming or enjoy normal activities. I became turned off that Islam is not being practiced the way I read in the Qur'an.

But then I realized. The reason why these people are corrupted and unhappy is not because of the Qur'an, it is because of this Hadith.

My fianc?e never eats or drinks with his left hand, and I asked him "Do you know why you avoid this behaviour?" And he admitted that he does not, that he is following his parents as they do. I showed him the Hadith that so clearly seemed silly, referencing that it is because the devil eats and drinks with his left hand. It's absurd. He said he will still follow it.

I slowly started to notice that a LOT of his habits were based off of Hadith, and it annoyed me, as he has never even researched why he behaves the way he does. If people simply obey things without knowing why the world would is just sheep copying each other. I asked him how he knows the Hadith are real and he said because throughout the years professional Muslims and scholars made sure to sift through all of them to ensure purity. I did my research and was not convinced that is entirely true. So I asked him "Do you follow all the Hadith that have been compiled as trust worthy? As there are many that say horrible and unjust things" and he says no. "So you pick and choose which Hadith to follow based on what sounds nice or okay?" And he rephrased it to "We simply ignore the Hadith that do not sound reasonable, Islam is different for everybody" but then I realize "But in Middle Eastern countries they base laws from Hadith and enforce them, so they are enforcing Hadith that people may not agree with?"

He uses the excuse that God left information out of the Qur'an, such as how to pray and how certain traditions and pillars work and that the Hadith fills that information in. To say that God would leave things out of the Qur'an... But God said the Qur'an is complete. Who to believe... Of course, God.

Sigh, it's so confusing to me. I believe only in the Qur'an and believe it as perfect just as God says.
I am here to learn how to pray, to find other Qur'an only believers as I feel so alone and discriminated against for abandoning the Hadith, something that has become the main focus of Sunni Islam now, which is the majority of the Muslims in the world. I am outnumbered and told I am wrong, but I feel purity and happiness and success, I do not feel like a sinner and a kafir as they make me out to be. I seek God and he has led me to this path.

I am happy this forum exists, and it is very nice to meet you all.
